I don't know if it's the best but it certainly is one of the most beautiful drives!
I live close to one section of the Blueridge Parkway (I'm in Winchester, Virginia). I've gone camping along this road in the past and taken many drives along it. It traverses through some of the highest mountains in this range and has many gorgeous lookout points where you can stop, stretch your legs and admire the breathtaking views. There is so much to do, so much to see and experience along this road that I highly recommend experiencing it if you're anywhere near the area.

I really couldn't say that any one place is particularly nice because there is so much to see and do the entire length but, for the most scenic areas, I'd head for the part in North Carolina (south of Virginia), since that is where the tallest mountains are. However, just about 30 miles south of where I live you'll find the Skyline Caverns and, not far from there, the Luray Caverns which are pretty famous, at least on the east coast of the U.S. Those are awesome in their own right.

It's called State Route BG 9002. I had to look that one up, only because we've only called it the Blue Ridge Parkway (or Skyline Drive in this section of it). Around here, there's always someone who can direct you to it. From where I live, I take Route 81 south then just follow the signs. Route 81 runs right through Winchester and also runs parallel to the Blue Ridge Parkway for quite a way so it's really easy to get to from here.
I've never driven the entire length of the parkway. When I was on a camping trip down the parkway, we drove from one campsite to the next each morning for an entire week but never did reach the southernmost portion of it. There's simply way too much to do along the way so time really flies.

I think highway 101 on the west coast is the best. Not sure what the MPH is there but it is lovely. You drive along the ocean and in some places pine tree grow right up to the beaches. No lovelier place have I seen. The highway that crosses the Mississippi is sort of cool too. And some of the highway that go under the sea.

Highway 101 is 1550 miles long. It goes from California, Oregon and Washington. All the way along the west coast.

I love traveling along the Blueridge Parkway as well. I love to travel on it but it is not for traveling fast. If you want to get there fast take a different route. I travel the parkway to enjoy the views. It is amazing during every season. I love to take pictures while riding along.

Thank you for sharing it with us!I am so ill-informed that I have never heard of Blueridge Parkway ,much less answering your question.I trawl it online, the reason the speed limit of this road is at 45 mph or so is because weather is variable in some sections.I can imagine there is surely a good ecological environment there.
