Sleeping, Meditating and Reflecting

Hello mylotters! I was wondering what are the differences between sleeping, meditating and reflecting. What are the benefits of each? And honestly, I do not know how to meditate. Do you just sit down, close your eyes and make your mind blank? How long does a meditation process take place? If you do not make you mind blank, does that mean you are reflecting? Is sleep better than meditation? I hope to get clear answers. Thanks in advance for helping me out, my fellow mylotters!

Sleep is a form of auto repair protocol. When you sleep, your brain scans every vart of your body and sends energy there to boost the celular regeneration.Yhis is what the scientists say. From my point of view, it's the time when you let your subconscious to repair your body. About meditation. Depends on the purpose. Meditation is a state of body. Your breath slows down(I can go up to 1 respiration cycle/minute. Your heart beats are slowing down and your brain opens. And here it changes, depends of the purpose of the meditation. For example, reflectation is a form of meditation, where you watch your moves and analyze each of them. So, back to meditation, you can also use it to go within you and find the inner self or can use it to repair yourself, at a higher level(like cancer or other diseases). It's hard to explain what is meditation, you know when you achive it. Usualy your senses wake up and you can hear and feel things that you didn't before. Even a wisper becames annoying. What I said above is possible, but doesn't mean is easy. You need practice, lot of practice. Hope I helped:D

Hello eunique. I would like to share what i know about these terms. 1.sleeping is a biological need which must be met by every individual on a regular basis in order to ensure proper health and smooth operation of all the organ systems in our body. If one fails to maintain his body clock as per recommended schedule( 7-8 hrs for a normal adult in 24 hrs ),he might end up in some severe health problems. MEDITATION on the other hand,is an art or a practice which helps one to collect and direct all the energy within himself in a particular direction. This helps you in increased concentration ability, relief from stress and give you a peace of mind if done on a regular basis. REFLECTION can be considered as radiating energy to people around you. This energy can be positive as well as negative. Obviously positive radiation is known to be good. If you are happy from inside, you will radiate positive energy or vibes to those who are around you. The way to meditate is not just one.You can consider a no- of options. The one i know goes like this- sit down on a mat or sand floor in yoga default position, preferably in open area in the morning time. close ur eyes and try to see a fictitious flame of candle placed at the center of ur vision. keep it continued for 30-60 secs.Do it 10 times in one sitting. You can increase the duration of each session as per you will and comfort. Be sure that your concentration on the flame has to be 100%. All the best.:)

This is very informative saurabhreigns. Thank you! I plan to do what you said about the flame meditation. I think it will need practice since I find myself frequently losing focus.

There is a whole process I go through to meditate. Takes a while. Sleeping is unconcious hopefully for a period of eight hours when the body is at complete rest. Reflecting is relaxing back and reflecting over the day or period of time. All are very good for us.

sleeping is simply sleeping. i don't think there is any explanation needed for that. for meditation, it would depend on what you believe in, what your religion is or faith is. as different religion or faith has different way to meditate or different interpretation of meditation. reflecting is more like a form of meditation also which is the kind of meditation that i do.

Doesn't matter the religion or faith. They have diferebt ways to get to that state, but the result is the same. It's recomanded to use a technique close to your location, but not necessary. Use one that suits you.

wow ,good discussion and Ill make an attempt. All three have something in common in that they are forms of relaxation.Sleep would be defined by wickepedia as a naturally recurring state characterized by reduced or absent consciousness, relatively suspended sensory activity, and inactivity of nearly all voluntary muscles. Meditation is any form of a family of practices in which practitioners train their minds or self-induce a mode of consciousness to realize some benefit,"wickePedia" while reflection is a self induced or forced state of consciousness which allows one to recollect event or even Now all thes are forms of relaxation in which sleep gives the most because it allows the body to rejuvenate. Meditation gives some amount of relation as well ,in this case however its a focused state. Reflection gives relaxation especially if thr memory summoned was a happy one. There are some instances when we reflect on events which can bing up pain
