Some people take Mylot too seriously.

I just saw a discussion in "Make extra money" that was disturbing. A newbie posted a discussion that was borderline against the guidelines. Several Mylotters made some very rude comments towards her and her post instead of simply letting her know that her discussion was against Mylots guidelines.
A lot of newbies make the same kind of mistakes. What is your opinion on this?

I can see from your activity where you saw the problem and I would like to make some points.
1 - that user has joined solely for the purpose of spamming a site and gaining referrals as can be seen from their activity. There are other sites for that purpose, not myLot.
2 - some users may appear to be 'newbies' but many are on their umpteenth account here and it is exasperating at times trying to be rid of them, especially at week-ends when admin is not always around.
3 - did you report that topic too or is it only the usual Lotters that do as they are asked in the Guidelines?
4 - I do see that there was some unnecessary language used but I also see that so eof those users have a lower star today which might put them off using that tone in future.
My opinion is that while it is the same bunch of Lotters who appear on theose type of discussions I can understand that tempers fly. I also agree that they should try and keep their cool but I know from experience that dealing with both spammers and plagiarists, and losing posts shile doing so, can be frustrating.
How about some others joining in ajd helping out too?

By the way, a topic that is blatantly soliciting referrals is not 'borderline against the guidelines' but is a first class grade 1 violation

but befrindwithme26 what if we are genuinely trying to help in our own way and suggest the new person read the guidelines is that rude? so many take it as me being rude? now if I had said stupid
read the guidelines yes that would be mean and rude, but I did not think that or say that,I assumed the new person was as intelligent as myself and sought to suggest reading the guidelines to find out more information,. I do not see that as rude., help,.

Hatley, I don't think you are rude at all for trying to help people. This discussion that is being talked about the person was a spammer so people were a little on the mean side to this person BUT the person was breaking the rules and I think people who are doing things the right way here got annoyed by it. Apparently it was a repeat offender who spams here quite often!
I think you have been very helpful to all the newbies here. It is beneficial for everyone to read the rules and guidelines, there is no harm in saying so. =)

I think there is no point in being rude. If that newbie (or spammer)went against the guidelines, why should commenters do the same thing? Anyway, I think it is better to point out the mistake and give advice or simply avoid commenting on such topic/coment.

i have observed this too and some of the comments are ridiculously arrogant.
i have reported many discussions but i do not see the point of coming across as nasty so i do not leave a comment unless i feel like having a laugh.
members of mylot should point out the rules politely, it is not their job to be overbearing.
it does have to be pointed out that these comments are few and far between but everytime someone is rude it always sticks in the mind.

Well, being a newbie myself(6 days old), I really can't comment but I am very interested in the responses you receive. What was it she did that was borderline, so I may avoid it like the plague!

hi calicostark read the guidelines if you have not as every
newcomer is given a link or links to the guidelines and
FAQ's for a reason so they know the dos and don'ts of
making discussions and all other pertinent information,.
Admins does this for a reason, to make mylotting easier
and more understandable to newcomers.hope this helps
welcome again to mylot. we met on some other discussion
calico.

Many people here in mylot joined and sign up without reading the guidelines. For them just to earn money they don't mind what are they doing if they violate the guidelines of the site they have joined. They should be reminded by anyone here who can see their post.

Setting aside one specific discussion for a moment and focusing on the whole more broad issue... I see a lot of "newbies" making the same mistakes as well. When I say "newbies" I am not the MyLot police going through and seeing that everyone with a double digit number in the parenthesis after their name is on their forty second new account and therefore when I see "soandsomylotter (65)" I assume soandsomylotter has made 65 posts, the end, no more discussion. That said, I see this group doing things like asking how everyone likes to cook their chicken, which falls under the heading of recipe sharing, which is against the rules. But my opinion, here and everywhere else in the world, is if the same rule keeps getting broken in the same way by different people at different times, perhaps it is not the rule breakers' faults but rather the rule itself needs to be rewritten.

If you were to see "soandsomylotter (65)" then you would be extremely wise not to assume that they have made 65 posts because that number is not a post count. Many users, both new and old, know that adding comments will earn for them even though it does not add to that number.

Now a days, newbies jump to start discussion or response without reading the guidelines and thats why their discussion get deleted but it is not suitable to leave rude comments fro someone's ignorance or laziness to read guidelines. As veterans we should enlighten them rather then being rude.
have a nice time.

Some newbies never took time to read the guidelines.
Mylot is a social forum site and rude comment/s are not allowed.
For sure those comments will be deleted if found violated the rules.
Some newbies only joined for referrals so they never mind to read guidelines and no matter how other mylotters give them few instructions, they keep doing same mistakes which made other mylotters pissed off (so we cannot blame other old members to sounds rude -this never happens everyday)

Although I run a forum myself, I unfortunately usually fall into the category of not reading the guidelines for a site like this, but for MyLot funnily enough I did read the guidelines. They're fairly straight forward, though I expect myself to mess up at least once before I find my feet properly here.
Other MyLotters have been very helpful and there is lots of information floating about for new members. I encountered an issue of sorts yesterday which was easily solved with a quick search, but would never have occurred had I read the FAQs in the first place.

Absolutely right, lot of members here taking mylot too serious on reponding rude comment which is not totally right, we all know that most of those newbies never took their time on reading the mylot FAQ and Guidelines but all they do is just jump on the loop start commenting on how this how that on mylot, some other member helps and some other member just totally rude.Newbies also needs to read the mylot faq and guideline

Thanks, mysdianait. Truthfully, like someone else above mentioned, I never read those things. I play nice so what harm could I be causing. I'm glad I read them though as there were a few "Don't do" bullet points that I didn't even think of.
And since I'm an awful cook aside from making fantastic omelets, I'm in no danger of sharing a recipe!

In the beginning it is difficult to understand all the things about mylot but if anyone is doing wrong against the mylot's guidelines then it is our responsibility to tell that mylotter that what is wrong and what is right.
and i have also faced such situation when some of mylotters thinks they are smart because they all things and put rude comments on my post.it feels very bad seriously.
but after some times when understand the procedure then all things goes well.but i don't like this behavior of mylotters.
but there are many users who tells me many things so that i can understand the whole phenomena very well.

I try to politely tell them what they did wrong in hopes of helping them. I did however see Mysdianaits response which leads me to believe that this user had a bit of a history. If that's the case and they have been informed that what they are doing is wrong and continue to do it, I'd probably just report them and not waste alot of time responding to them since it obviously isn't working.

I'll have to go look for it and see if it is still there so I can judge it for myself. That is the only way I like to judge what anyone says. Others can feel they are right, when they are looking at it from only one point of view.

It happens most of the time.I think they should be advised on how to post a discussion. Some lotters are way harsh on commenting posts by newbies this shouldn't be the case.We should make mylot a peaceful site to earn and gain friends as well.If you disagree in a certain post by a fellow mylotter you can disagree with him/her but in a nice manner. This is just dicussions don't get it too personally there are posts that I notice which is not inclined i should say with the discussion.

Not everyone in this world is friendly and some people are but keep in mind often newbies will post something without performing a search and seeing if this topic was discussed before. Not justifying anything but one thing to keep in kind online, never take anything to heart.

Hi, I'm also a newbie in MyLot and I got confused with what you wrote: borderline against the guidelines. Can you tell me what are the guidelines? I don't want to fo the same mistakes. And also I receives some emails informing me that the discussions where my comments were under were deleted. Is it because they cross the borderline?

These are the discussion Guidelines:
http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx
read them carefully and try to avoid responding on topics that violate them or you will lose those responses when the discussion is deleted.
Topics are not 'borderline'. They are either within the Guidelines and they stay or they violate them and they go. Indeed the discussion which the starter of this topic was referring to has since been deleted by admin.

Wow, that is so much to read. :O I haven't read the whole text yet, but I caught something about rating. I don't think people actually rate every discussion in MyLot, right? :( I think I really have to read the guidelines over and over again so that I won't make a mistake because I have to admit that I use only "Lol" to respond to a comment. :(

you should not be rude to any one i myself have had 3 topics removed and could not figure out why no matter how many times i went over everything. i think it just depends sometimes but instead of being rude give ideas on what to write about we are all basically hear to try and make a little extra income and im sorry but they say its easy and fast on here i average 3 comments aday im up to 40 cents in 6 weeks so i can understand her frustration if something does get deleted
