anything we eat, wont it get digested and come out through digestive tract, may be the time taken to digest would depend on the stuff we eat...have you ever swallowed a chewing gum...if so, what happened?

I've always heard that gum takes like seven years for it to get digested. I never really looked it up though. But I think it's probably true. It would seem like it would take a long time to break down. Especially after seeing old gum on side walks, etc for long time periods. So I don't swallow it I just throw it away.

Yeah that is a long time. But that is what I've heard. It probably is the truth though. Our body doesn't digest gum very well. I should look that up sometime and see what it says about it.

Chewing gum lasts only till it is in the mouth. Once it is swallowed, it is digested by the Hydrochloric acid in the stomach and the digestive enzymes from the pancreas, just like normal food. So please rest easy, there will be no harm. This is what the doctors said when I took my son to them for swallowing chewing gum.
The problem is when it gets stuck in the throat. Then it is a serious issue needing urgent medical attention. It is always better not to swallow it.
