Praying for someone, other than family and friends...

Have you sometimes felt the need to say a little prayer for someone who is not really very close to you? I have, actually been trying to keep people in my prayers, and it has helped me more than anything else too... It makes me feel closer to God and more understanding of people and what they are going through. Actually, praying for someone else, other than ourselves, what we want for us and our family is really a good way to humble ourselves. Have you sometimes also felt that someone even those you meet on the street might be needing your prayers for them, too?

I do pray for the salvation of leaders, especially those who are bringing down the downfall of a nation. I also pray for someone to get better from a critical illness but the main regard is that if they have not known God, that they will do as well. However if I do not know their name, it is difficult for me to think that God will heal them because there might be someone else in a different country with the same illness, So God might heal that person instead.

that's true... Sometimes there were things that has to be done, anyway where we would first have to see the bad things before the good things done. :D But then that is right... of course... We have to still pray for all those we love, all our leaders too so they would make a right decision and that we would all have the benefits... :D

Yes, I have ever prayed for someone I don't know at all, but I won't forget this man. I have forgotten his face, but I will never forget his good deed to me and my mother. And I also pray for a little girl for being so honest. I hope these people will keep this honesty and kindness in their hearts, and I hope God will always keep them safe. I know I'm not praying for them everyday, but everytime I remember them, I always say a little prayer. They always remind me of doing the good things in my life.

You're right. God does work in a mysterious ways. He helps us through someone else and in the same time, teaches us a lesson. And yes, I said Amen to your wish too. I also hope that those people would get what they're praying for. And that God will always be with them.

It was hard to be in war, the horrors of the stories i have read, i never really wish to be in such a situation. I really never wished to be in such a position... And yes i am praying for peace all the time, for peace and for everyone here... We can only do nothing, really except share our love to the world through our prayers.

I prayed for someone before because I felt in the bottom of my heart that I need to pray for her family. I've seen this lady and her family in a television program, they are living in certain place in Mindanao. This lady and her children swim everyday the deep river in order to go to school. Not only that, they also walk in a muddy area just to go to school. After watching the episode, I can't help myself to pray for them.

hi there axlrate, that is the truth, we do really need to be able to share that part of us, towards others... give them the kind of prayers that they so needed. the truth is that we need to give prayers to others more and as often as we give the same prayers to ours

Yeah, that's a given for us people to that what is needed to do, if you want to help, then you can able to help, you can do a lot of things to help, and one of the best thing to help is to pray for others that needed the most of help, and God will be the one who will arrange of everything in a mysterious way. Its always a matter of choice for every people to help, if you know your part in this world, then you know how you can help and what to do to help. Actually I also watched some documentary about youngsters called "bulders" means they pick up blocks of stones, (I don't know if that spells right) and I'm amaze about there principles in life, despite of the hardships of there life, you can see hope in there eyes and the words they speak is not usally in negative, but you hear more of determination instead of complaining, and believe me they really inspired me. :)

Praying for others is good because as believers in the Lord, we are actually told to include in our prayers our government leaders, our neighbors, those in authority, our friends, our family, and especially in the household of faith. Therefore, my prayers are not limited to only those family and friends but others as well, including my enemy. Someone said that the best revenge is praying for your enemies. It is not us who will take revenge but God. Praying for others most of the time is usually better than praying for ourselves all the time.

hi there my friend. that is really true!! :D whenever we pray for people we also do pray for ourselves even more. the thing is we always are like this, we know that we want to help everyone, we know we do want to be sharing the blessings. :D and most often, we are only capable of doing this when we share our prayers to them.

Yes. I might have done that a few times. It's probably those times that these persons made some impact to me that made me prayed for their souls even though we weren't that close. I guess it's natural to wish somebody good luck, or pray for someone's good health when that somebody has done something good to you unexpectedly.

I've been praying for the victims here in America of the Tornadoes as of late. I've also been praying for a mylotter here who has or is going to go through heart surgery. I pray for my aunt as well. I know God hears our prayers and understands them even if we are at a loss of words. I just wish I could form my words a little better when talking to him. I think opening our minds and our souls to him helps us and brings us closer to Him and our purpose.

I have done that before as well. I have prayed for strangers that I have seen at different places (usually you can tell if someone is having a hard time & you don't have to know the persons name because GOD knows who you are thinking of!). I have prayed for my online friends that I have never met in life but I still feel a friendship with. I think it is good for your soul to open up and pray for other people be they strangers or your family or best friends!

Throughout my life I've always said prayers for my family and my close friends, but it has only been recently that I've started praying for people that are outside my close circle. The reason that I've started praying for those that aren't in my close circle is because I highly believe in the power of prayer and I know that there were people outside my close circle that were praying for our family and I felt the need to pay it forward.

Oh. There are so many of them. As for me, I had better pray all of them – I mean all of them who live around the globe than praying people I met on the street even if we are not so close. All people around the globe need our prayer so it is better to pray all of them. As to your question, yes I pray sometimes to someone who is not close to me. I sometimes forgot to pray for those who are with me and who are close with me. I do not why. Maybe the reason is that I see them how they are so close to God and that is why I feel that they no longer need someone who would pray for them unlike to those people that are not so close to you. You just met them on the street and we are not sure about them if they are really praying to God.

thanks introvertshy for your response. apologies for the super late response from me hehe(i was rather a little distracted). But anyway, its true though sometimes if we pray with all our hearts we are of course helping others as much as we want to be helping ourselves.

that's good though when you are the kind who would be always ready to pray and not fight the urge. that is really what we should be doing. the thing is.. it is one thing to pray for someone and one thing to help them with all we can, but of course the intention is always in there.

Oh, I see. I am sure there must be something that has happened, causing you not to trust in the power of prayers. my hope still is up that you would still consider. Prayers helped me lot in times of trouble and it actually has become a security blanket for me and made me stronger and more positive. I would pray for you juggal. anything is possible.

@juggal: Hello juggalOXx420, I also been on stage of my life before that I thought praying is nothing, like what you are stating that you just don't see the point. I also told this to myself before, "what's the use of prayer? It doesn't give me what I want... such a waste of time!". But things get become upside down. Prayer is very important to every person, it's a opportunity to call and talk to God personally, where you can open up and surrender everything to HIM. You can ask GOD everything you need and HE will give you what is good for you. GOD BLESS you...

It is important that you have a daily dialogue with God. Pray not only for your loved ones but extend your prayers to whole human race. Pray for peace in your country and the whole world. The world is being bombarded from one catastrophe to another...prayer is the most powerful tool nowadays. An awareness of God's presence gives us strength to face adversities.

Yes I do. Often, if I read about someone in the news who is somehow in trouble or danger; or might be, I will pray for them. As I recall, I've also prayed for people I don't know...spontaneously...like in the street or wherever. I'm sure I've done this.

Yes I always do that. When someone says their near and dear ones are not well, when I read in a newspaper that someone is not well and needs assistance or victim of accident and admitted in the hospital, I make it a point to pray for such person. I feel that is the minimum help anyone can offer any person.

hi buchi, its good to have you in the discussion, and participating with us... of course there are quite a lot of times when i would not be able to say a little prayer for someone and would be limited to family and close friends... i would still feel the need to pray as i know if i am unable to help in other ways, my prayers would have done big things for them.

Hi chiyosan, I have made this habit when I was sick in the hospital and was forced to see the patients who suffers more than me. That time I felt to pray for those who are sick not knowing where they are from or what are they. But all I know is they suffer a lot. I felt that for seeing those kind of people God made me to get there. Now whenever I pray for the sick, I feel a deep burden in my heart and that way as you said I am moving closer to God. Nice discussion. Cheers... Have a great day always....

thank you Philip. God moves in mysterious ways, and there are a lot of ways for us to get closer to him. We can always pray and have a conversation with God, and we can also sing and glorify him, we can also be a friend to someone who needs us and that way, we are able to relay to people that we are used by God to be someone that he has sent for others. Godbless your kind heart and i am praying that you will always be capable of giving and sharing more prayers for people you love and even to those you barely know.

I pray for other people all the time actually. I also pray a lot for people I don't particularly like because that is what God says to do and I feel more close to Him too when I do that. When I meet someone and I feel that urge to pray for them I do that too. It does keep us humble and close to the Lord. =)

talking about people we don't like... in prayers, well i have done this and have included them in my prayers. I prayed that i would lose the anger, and the hatred i have for those people who have purposely hurt me. it is not easy, the mere mention of their names sends chills up my bones, but then... i guess it is something we must be able to do and it will free us as well from the burden that we have. =) thank you lovingmybabies!
