CASTRATION - Is India ready to punish the rapists in this way?

I came across a debate on a national news channel where many prominent personalities across the country were debating on the possible remedies to female molestation and/or rape.
The most common idea was CASTRATING the rapists.
Castration can be physical as well as chemical also.
Physical castration is an irreversible process while chemical castration requires scheduled doping and monitoring of the subject.
India is a developing country and the pathetic situation of women and girls in this country is known to all of us.
Although many measures have been taken to decline the rapes and molestation but all proved to be of no use.
DELHI- the capital of India is one of the most affected regions where reports of rape are rising day by day.Worse is the situation of many villages and regions of low literacy and tribal areas.
What do you think?
Can Castration be a good measure to put brakes on the rapidly rising rape rate?
Is our country ready for such a change in system or is there any other way out to make the country more safe for women?
PS-Many countries like USA(in 1997),UK ,GERMANY,ISRAEL have legalized it already.

I think this is not a good idea ... castration is far too less of a punishment for a rapist.

I saw the meaning of "castration"--it is given as
verb (used with object)
1.
to remove the testes of; emasculate; geld.
2.
to remove the ovaries of.
3.
Psychology . to render impotent, literally or metaphorically, by psychological means, especially by threatening a person's masculinity or femininity.
4.
to deprive of strength, power, or efficiency; weaken: Without those ten new submarines, our navy will be castrated.

Of these 1 and 2 appear to be dangerous punishments. I am unable to imagine this being implemented.

Sir, it might seem draconian at first glance but if you try to look into the matter and feel the seriousness and heaviness of it perhaps then you will agree:)

Rapists should be punished. But if such rigorous punishments are legalized we cannot rule out the possibility of these being imposed on not real rapists due to political influence. Every good move is spoilt by another move against its proper use.
Rapists should be banned from society and shunned away by the people.

I agree with the castration proposed in India. By so doing, many will have to press their front brake to avoid it thus decreasing the number of cases you mentioned.
Similar cases also mushroom in any other developing countries placing itself under the corruption case.

My first reaction is an emotional one...yes castration is the least that should happen to a rapist..however, we must be sure they are really guilty.
There are cases of lies being told to get even with someone. If we can be sure of the guilt, I say yes..go for it...rape is inexcusable and perhaps this could make some stop and think twice...it's worth a try

In my country there's some case where woman lied about being raped. few times ago there's a woman in my country that come to the police and said that she was raped by 5 men and she said one of them is her boyfriend, then after a while the police arrested the boyfriend. During the investigation, it turns out that the woman just upset to her boyfriend and want to teach him a lesson. Now what happen after we castrate someone then there's an evidence where the rape was just a lie?

Every coin has two faces.
similar is the case with castration.
I am not saying to castrate anyone who is accused, instead until and unless an accused is found guilty, this practice is not done.
Even the countries where it is legalized ,take care of this.:)

i don't think cutting off any part of someones body is the way to resolve anything they have done including rape.. i mean isn't prison time enough? if they start this and a lot of people get castrated the country itself is gonna have a bad name for doing this but it is my opinion

Chemical castration does not involve cutting down the genitals.
And what about the girl who has just got raped in his 15 and whose mms made by the rapist has circulated?
What about the mental and physical trauma she has to go through?
What about the scars she will have to carry throughout her life?
What about the stigma?
And ,i dont think that a country's name will be defamed due to it coz MANY people will refrain themselves from raping a lady after realizing the seriousness and consequences of this offence.
Thanks for you sincere participation by the way.:)
