How important is your health to you in your 20s?

So... here I am about 24... I've lost my gall bladder and had a few minor surgeries... it scares me sometimes because I'm like OMG... I'm falling apart and I'm not even 30 yet... how could I have prevented this? And then... I smoke cigarettes... which I don't plan to do my whole life... but I don't want to develop anything later in my life that I may regret. So... everyone in their 20s... how important is your health to you? Most people around our age are in the gym and working out and everything, but we don't really eat right. We catch fast food when we can, eat out a lot and make quick meals at home that usually consist of a lot of sodium. Are you taking the necessary precautions early in life towards health so that you won't regret it later in life? Or do you not give it a 2nd thought?

Hi there!! I think we are on the same age and yes, health is important to me. That is why I tend to eat foods that I cook by myself or mom than eating at the restaurant. Once in a while we will buy foods from outside just to make it variety. I take a good care of my body and I am happy with my health and I hope I could stay take a good care of it even when I am not in my 20's~(^^)

I'm really sorry to hear about what you're going through. It's certainly not the sort of situation that you want to hear about. I'll be 24 in April, and I have to say that, although it has always been important, it is more so now, especially as I have a three-month-old daughter. I try to stay health. There are things that I should probably do differently, but I still do the best that I can to stay healthy and make sure that I am.

It's ok.. I assume that is just a part of life and people deal with things. And it is good that you are becoming conscientious of your health for your daughter's sake. I am trying to do the same.. I have a 3 year old daughter whom I'm going to have to be here for in the future. Good luck! Thanks for commenting!!

i am 50 and while i didnt abuse my body in any way i am struggling with health issues now so i think that if you take care of your body when you are young, it will pay off in the end.

I apologize to hear that, cher913. I don't take very good care of my health at 24 either, but I am becoming more conscious of it everyday. I hope that it gets better for you. Thanks for sharing your views!!

In my opinion, one's health is very important at every time.People have a tendency to ignore his health when young, which is quite wrong. If people's health is poor ,they must pay attention to improve it.Or else they can't recover. As they are aging, their health is poorer and poorer.

That's true. Being young can make you naive to quite a bit. People are not very conscientious of their health until it starts to fail them, then they want to take the necessary steps to try to reverse the damage, sometimes successful, sometimes unsuccessful. Thanks for sharing your views!!

My health is really so important to me. I consider it as one of my gift for myself. I may be young at the age of 22, but I know I am at risk of Heart Disease, Diabetes and Kidney Problems. I make sure that I am very cautious with my diet. I make sure that I ate in moderation.

Thats so sad to hear. If you do not mind, why did you lose your gallbladder is it because of an accident? Anyway, I know what you mean. I too feel guilty about things I do. I live a sedentary lifestyle and I eat things that could clog my arteries. I do not smoke or drink, but my stress level is really high and I worked irregular hours. I know there will be reckoning later on. And it really worries me

It's OK. It happened a while ago.. and one is able to function quite normally without it! =) I think that it is very motherly for you to consider your child when you consider your health and yourself. It is great that you are instilling great eating habits in your child early to carry on throughout his/her life! Thanks for sharing your views!!

Hi and a happy day to all! Well, i am not in my twenty's anymore. But if i have a time to go back, i will really make sure i eat healthy and exercise lots. Sure, i am not overweight in my twenty's but i still think i lack good nourishment back then that affecting my health now in my early 30's. When im still in my twenties, i dont really feel anything bad about health, i feel good, i can work with less stress in my mind but i tell you it will make you feel it in your thirties until you reach old age. So the healthy you are in your young age, the more it will give you good benefits in your old age. But, we cant really feel the bad benefits of eating unhealthy foods in our early age, its always get our attention when we get old. But in your case, having gall bladder removed at early stage of 24, i think you already had a bad eating habits and lack exercise in your teens. For example, you eat lots of junk foods and sit in front of the television at ages which you are supposed to be outdoor and playing with other kids. Am i right? Hope you will think of healthy eating and quit smoking. Enjoy your day!

Yes, I can agree in certain aspects... many people do not start to do things that they are supposed to until it is too late, that's why it's crucial to be conscientious of everything that goes in our lives at all times even the things we deem unimportant. It is very important to exercise, move around, eat healthy and remain stress-free. My 73 year old grandmother is living proof that anyone is capable of such. She still works, drives, cooks, babysits, and does everything for herself and she'll be 74 this May. And to answer your question, brainplusbeauty09, my eating habits weren't the best, no. But I did make sure I ate fruits and vegetables, I just have never been very fond of water. However, I do enjoy milk. And false, yet again... I spent most of my middle school years on a JV swim team at the local high school. I spent most of my high school years on a Varsity volleyball team which required weight lifting and conditioning as part of practice and continued that throughout my early college years. I guess things just happen... I just try to remember that everything happens for a reason. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!
