Why do I over analyze when watching television?

Most times when I am watching tv I get mad. The bad acting or bad lines they have to say drives me crazy. I roll my eyes, suck my teeth and moan "I wouldn't say/do that"! My daughter has to remind me that it's just television. She says I take it too seriously. Does that ever happen to you? Do you ever feel like it is not very believeable and it gets on your last nerve?

I would have to say that I am the opposite. For me I feel for the characters and if there is an embarrassing moment I would have to mute the t.v. and / or 'lalalalal" with my fingers in my ears, or I'd feel embarrassed! I know it's quite ridiculous.

I do that too! I have no idea why I get embarrassed for fake people, but I do!

Sometimes, it does happen that I will over-analyze things. Generally, it's more my husband, who has the habit of doing it, and I sometimes have to remind that it's just television.

dodo19 LOL I just said something similar about my husband...when I tell him it's just TV..he says they need to at least use the correct props..I have to agree..

My husband does this more then me. He really does it when the movie has airplanes like war movies, as he was a pilot. I'm aware that some of the shows its clear that they don't care whether we are really watching the show closely.

You're funny! You sound like someone I'd like to watch television with. I do find myself mocking storylines sometimes. And then I realize what I'm doing and try to cut it out. But sometimes you just have to mock something!

I am kind of the same way..and I think that it is cause the shows are so darn stupid these days, there is no other way for an intelligent person to react! They are all about s(e)x, marriage, divorce, sleeping around, and other plain stupidity, they dont' even have a plot anymore! And the hour dramas, have all the violance and killings and such...and they have taken it to the unbelievable max that this major, horrible crime can be solved in a matter of 38 minutes! Not a single sitcom I watch these days, and the hour dramas...can't think of one either! I watch history channel, foodnetwork, TLC etc. I mean come on...2,1/2 men..all that show was about was one man doing nothing but "you know what" and drinking and the other acting like an idiot and the kid in the middle of stupid and imbisilic! Where is the comedy in that?

Hello zukichucha No, I've had this but for a few shows, usually the ones I have seen a thousand times, I see that they aren't acting very good or whatever. My mom does that a lot and like your daughter, I have to remind my mom that it is just TV also! :P

zukichucha..LOL I usually don't but my husband does..a lot. War movies are ruined for him is they use the wrong model of airplane or tank..lol I don't know the difference so it dosn't bother me. Ignorance is bliss??? I do get somewhat emotional over lies and dishonesty in political programs..but mostly I am so used to it I can shrug it off..

Yes watching television does force us to analyze things. But it is upto us to decide whether to take it seriously or just shrug it off jokingly. I have seen ppl crying and getting emotionally attached to the TV shows(specially here in India).Specially my mom and grandma ! i have to remind them that its just TV and they are just acting. But for me it just fun to critize and find the mistakes that happen during the shooting and the same shown on Television. If incase TV is getting on my nerve, the best thing to do is watch a cartoon show, which refreshes your mind and you dont think much watching cartoons !!(specially Tom & Jerry)
