I am from china, and there is no print freedom in my country. The history has been changed and rewritten by the winner. Hence I have to find some good material about hisroty and print it on my own. For example, I printed a history book written by a chinese American who have been America for many years. It is very great and I am so lucky to find it in the internet.
share your views. Maybe you can not understand my situation, because there is no problem to buy any book in your country...

I am always so glad to see a mylotter from China begin a discussion or respond to one. I know that you do not have the same freedoms that we spoiled Americans have.
I know some about the history of my country but not enough. it is a big country with a lot of history. And I can not learn all that I wish i could.
I grew up in Boston but moved to California in my late teens. I have been in Texas many years. Each city and state has its own history. And it is always interesting.
Your discussion has been an eye opener because you write that it is difficult to get a true history of your country. Maybe you can get more from the internet than books but you also have internet censorship, do you not?
Does anyone in China monitor your postings on mylot?

It appears that the government is relaxing some. It seems that the Chinese people are having more freedom. Just the fact that you are able to post on mylot is a good sign.
Do you post at work, at home or at an internet cafe?

Yes, in china the internet has been censored. The popular website, Youtube Facebook and twitter, has been blocked these years. Maybe Mylot is not so popular in china, and the government is not afraid of information spreading in Mylot, so leave it alone.

I know the history of my country but not that much. It was taught to us from elementary to college. But after schooling, I forgot some important events that happened in the past. I guess it is important to really know our past and make it as our inspiration to move forward. Happy mylotting!

It is not necessary to remember every important events, but a humanbeing must have the right to know the true history of his own country. I agree with you that it is important to really know our past and make it as our inspiration to move forward. very great.

I know the history of my own country. It was thought to us when I was a student, from elementary to college but I took it for granted. I understand your situation there are some countries who prohibit the freedom of knowing ones history because it might be a reason for a revolution of the new generation.

Yes i am fairly familiar about my country's history. Indian History is a regular subject in all Schools until we finish Secondary School and a lot of books are available in the market concerning the same. As mentioned by Saumitra in the earlier discussion post, our historical monuments were ruined by moghuls and the British. But still Indian History is being emphasized in our country as one of the important subjects and each every student has to compulsorily study the subject until he finishes secondary school.
Its sad to know that your government is against print freedom. Lets hope that the attitude changes in the coming years.

Yes. I am familiar with my own country history. Of course the history do change sometimes to a certain extent to suit the current political situation. The old history books and the new history books have some differences. Some parts are left out and missing in the new history as compared to the old history books.

hello xiaobing! What or who do you mean by the winner? I mean, whoever have rewritten your country's history should and must be very knowledgeable. It is impossible to rewrite a history so I don't really understand how this could have happened.
I am here in the Philippines and we have also experienced hardship in the printing field. There was a time in our history when our countrymen were not allowed to write/print anything as the Spaniards would suspect it is something against them.. But all that is in the past. We don't have problems with printing now :D We have freedom!

There are two kinds of party before 1949 in china, for example A and B. The Party A beated the Party B in 1949, so the Party A is the winner. Then the history about the civil war had been written by the winner, and the Party B was described very terrible and deserve to be beatten even killed.
When they are in power these 60 years, there are a lot of bad things happened in china. The government should be responsible for it, but they control the press freedom, and anything about the bad things has been blocked.

Our situation is very different from your country. We know the history of our country pretty well and have learned quite a bit in our history classes at school. I could not imagine not having print freedom and restrictions on publications. Must be very difficult for the population to deal with this in china

You will not understand our situation in my country if you has not been to china. There are so many history things which have been defined to be sensitive by the government. If there is something which is harmful for them, they will block it anytime anywhere.
