Today I visited one the neighbour islands and in order to get back to my own island I had to cross 3 bridges and drive through 2 different islands. One of those islands is very small and there are only a few houses on the entire island. The other island is relatively big and it is a beautiful place with an old castle called "Valdemar slot". It takes me a while to get from the neighbour island to my own island, but I don't mind because I always enjoy the view from the car. The drive from the main island to my island is one of the things that I really like about the place where I live.
Which things do you like about the area where you live? Is there a place in your area that you really like and why do you like that place?

wow you said a lot of "island" there. haha:D
i often joke and say that i live in a rat hole, but i really like this new place i'm renting. the neighborhood isn't great at all, but my room is like my sanctuary: in constant disarray, but welcomingly personal. that is what i love about my rat hole.

i cant mention what any area in our place but if you ask me about what i want in my country i will say.. i like my country because it has a lot of agriculture our place has many trees plants, river and animals.
i wonder why this happens in Philippines because even Philippines is rich in natural resource still Philippines is not successful.
did you imagine soudi arabia? they have less plants and trees because they live in desert but if you look at them soudi Arabia is far successful than Philippines.

I think that you have many trees, plants and animals in the Philippines that you can't find in my country, because you have a different climate. I would like to visit the Philippines one day. I don't know enough about the Philippines and Saudi Arabia to really compare the two countries, but I think that it is an interesting question that you ask and maybe other mylotters from the Philippines have a comment about this topic.

I was born and grew up in a region with lots of trees, rivers, ocean, mountains, lots of domestic animals and free from pollution.
Since I got married we moved in the city with lots of noise, vehicles, people. We stay in the city for 20 long years. I really missed my hometown, the smell of the pure breeze with no impurity. I really love the sea, we have lots of beaches that's what I really like in my hometown I wish to lived near the ocean it makes me relax whenever I'm there.

I can imagine that it was a big change for you to move from your hometown to the city. Your hometown sounds like a really nice place. I did the opposite thing. I was born in a big city and I lived there for many years, but two years ago my husband and I decided to look for a house on the island where we live now. Sometimes I miss living in a big city, because there were lots of shops, cafees, concerts, movie theaters and other things to do, but I don't regret moving to our island. There are many other advantages here like beaches, parks and less noise and pollution.

what i like about the place i live in is the way our landlord treats us. He's just cool and considerate.
I also like the location cause its just nearby my office. And safe cause we have someone guarding the house during night time. We can also ask him to get us a taxi if its raining. Someone's cooking for us too, all expense paid by our landlord.

It sounds like you have found a great place to live and a place where your landlord takes good of his tenants. I have never had that kind of landlord. We always had to take care of our own safety and cook our own food. Now we don't have a landlord anymore, because we have bought our own house.

Speaking of islands. My country has about 7,107 islands. That's 7,100 islands on high tide and on low tide the 7 other islands appear. We have huge islands and some so small you can barely have a village in it. The country is surrounded by sea mostly and every island is blessed with beaches all over the place. Some have whites sands (including the fake white sand beaches) and some have brown sands. To the east is the vastness of the pacific ocean. Down south is where some consider to be our surfers haven. It's a tropical paradise here if you've always wanted to see beaches everywhere you go. But to me who have been around these parts all my life. I've seen too many of them, the place I've always loved visiting is Bagiuo City. Which is smack in the one of the largest island in our north. It's in the mountains, and I always love the cool breeze of fresh cool air. Sure beats the everyday stinging heat I'm used to. It's so cold there that I can imagine what it's like to be in colder countries. Just enough cold I have to say as we don't have any snow at all in these parts. We used to travel there in summer to escape the tropical heat all year long.

Yes, I can imagine winter can be extremely cold. Too cold for me though. That's why I want something that's just right in the middle. Not too hot and not too cold. In Bagiuo City we can jog, dare to wear a tshirt in summer without the dreadful sun baking your body. It is costly to travel to that city from where I am. But we do have alternative mountain ranges near my region where it is a bit cold too.
Yes, the beaches are everywhere. I guess people like me having been in the sun too long one tend to try a different climate. If you visit my country in April and May when it's summer here you will have all the sun you can get and all the beaches you want. We'd love to have you visit our country soon. You will definitely love it. :)

I plan on visiting Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines on the same trip. The plane ticket from my country to Asia is quite expensive, so I want to make good use of the time. If it is possible I want to travel for 6 weeks or 2 months. I really look forward to that trip, and I definately want to visit the beaches in the Philippines and enjoy the sun. It will take me some time to save up the money for that trip. I wish I had more money to spend on travelling

You used to travel to another place to escape the tropical heat. In my country people do the exact opposite thing - they travel to a country with a hot climate in order to avoid the cold winters. I have always been jealous at people who live in tropical climate like yours, because our winters are so cold. I never leave the house without a big coat, a scarf, a warm hat and gloves, but it is still really cold, and when I am outside I just feel like getting back into the house as soon as possible.
I didn't know that there were so many islands in your country. We only have about 400 islands. I look forward to seeing some of your beaches when I visit the Philippines, I have only seen them on pictures, and I think that they is looks really beautiful. In my country the water is always, and it is not nice to go swimming, because the water is cold even in the middle of the summer.

Hi Porcospino
Maybe because I was born and brought up here, at my place of stay, or even the fact that I know almost all the places around, this is one place I love to be at.
There are many places which I love because of the fond memories associated with them. I have seen this town and its growth and development. Many of the too old things are now got replaced with newer ones - and most of the locales which used to be green those days are now in concrete.
However, there is on place - actually a small bridge which used to act as a disperser of water during rains from one side of the road and the other. This was quite a low one earlier) and sitting on it would get our feet dipped in the water below. As it wasnt that deep, we took time and enjoyed here during rains. At times when lucky we would also catch the small fishes in our bigger kerchiefs and let them go once they were on them. Today, they have replaced this with a taller road and bridge... so effectively this place doesnt exist as it used to be and also the greeneries are now gone

It is sad when some of the wonderful places from the past disappear. I have seen the same thing in the city where I as born. I don't live there anymore, but I still visit that city sometimes, because my parents still live there. When I was a child there were many green areas, but today many of those areas have disappeared, and now there are houses instead. I understand why they need to build more houses, because people need a place to live, but the green areas were much more beautiful and peaceful...Fortuneately we still have the area around the lake, I hope that it will never be replaced by houses.

The things that you mention about the place where you live are also important to me like a convenient location and a safe place. It is great it is you have access to transportation even when you go home late, you have more freedom that way. I remember some of the small villages where I used to live, there was no public transportation in the evening or in the weekend and that was a big problem, because we always had to ask someone to drive us.

What do I like about here?
It's unsurpassed beauty and the freedom to roam
Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England - now! (R.B.)
But this love so tangible is shot through with pain and poison
You gave me my birth
Then you made me pay
What is it worth
To cast me away
Lying in the bushes
Dying in my arms
You stand here with nothing
But you've still got english charm
Oh England, you're my home
My heart's heart
Crashing thunder of love
You're my place of the poor
Open wound
Sure your my last rite
You cut your own throat
Then you let it bleed
Misleading your people
From what they all need
Roots forgotten
That's what we all say
But what does it matter
Now we're the USA
Why is it England
I feel like rubbish on your streets
Why is it when I care
If feel incomplete
Why does our future seem
Such defeat
When will our consciousness
Finally meet
Oh, whatever happened to
My green and pleasant land (Levellers)
all the best urban

A beautiful and different way to write about this topic, thank you for that Your response made me think about poems about my own country. I know there are quite a few poems about Denmark, but I wonder if anything has been written about my island, too. I would like to find the poems about my island, if there are any

I live by a small river called sha River, which is very beautiful, especially in summer. Willow-trees almost form aroof covering the banks. I often walk along the bank through the willow-trees, listening to songs from my walkman. I sing along sometimes. So the banks are the place I like best.

It sounds like you have found a very nice and beautiful place. I also like to go for a walk in a beautiful place and listen to music while I enjoy the nice surrroundings. I think it is important to have places like that where we can go when we want to relax and enjoy the surroundings. In one of the towns where I lived in the past my favourite place was the area around the lake, I often went there to relax, read or listen to music. I miss that place, because it was very beautiful.

I love my hometown, it's very peaceful and the weather is cold.
I live here in the metro city and the weather is not good with busy people around.
So,whenever I got the chance to spend a vacation or days to relax and unwind- I run back home to my hometown to relax and enjoy life with the nature.

Your hometown sounds like a very nice place where you can relax and enjoy the nature. You wrote that the weather is cold and you mention that as positive thing. I can't really imagine what it is like to live in a hot climate like yours. In my country cold weather is not a seen as a positive thing, actually it is something that we try to escape by visiting a country with a hot climate, because our winters are very cold. At the moment we still wear big coats, but at least the snow has disappeared. I am jealous at your climate, because I hate the cold winters

You eat my heart out, Porcospino. My hometown is not as much attractive as yours. It doesn't have rivers or bridges. But i got to say that i like it, compared to the downtown. Even though it is not convinient to purchase daily goods and see a movie in where i live, my hometown is definitely more clean and fresh than the downtown. And if i got convinient bus and mall, i would love it even more.

It is nice that your home town is more fresh and clean than the downtown. That is one of the things that I also appreciate about my island. I was born in a big city with lots of noise and pollution and I am happy to live in a place that is more peaceful and less polluted. Of course there also advantages about the big cities and it is possible to find everything there and there are lots of things to see and do. We can't buy everything on my island, but is it not a big problem, because it is quite easy to visit one of the other islands. In the past we had to sail from island to island, but today there are bridges.

Honestly,i kinda of feel ok with the place i live, otherwise,it is convenient and not that expensive as the center of the city. But quite far away from my work place. I wish the air would be better and more blue skies in there cause it is a bit city and the air is not that good as country.

I remember that you started a discussion about the distanse between your work place and your home, I hope that you find a way to solve that problem, it can be frustrating to spend a lot of time on transportation. I have had jobs that were far from my home, too, but at the moment I don't have to spend a lot of time on transportation and that is nice. Yes, the air is better in the countryside, there is less pollution. I am quite lucky, because my island is not that big, of course there are cars, but there aren't lots of them.

The first thing that I really like in my place is that, it is not so crowded. I mean its an organized place and peaceful. The view is not that good but at least we are just very near to the city proper. And it's very easy to be in another place you want to go, I mean it's not so traffic. Another thing is we are elevated, and we are not that affected whenever there is flood and I thank God for that.

It is good to hear that your place is elevated and that you don't get that affected when there is a flood. Fortuneately we don't experience kind of problems on my island either, but the people who live in the western part of my country sometimes get affected when there is a flood. It is also nice to live at a place where it is easy to go to travel to other places like you mention. We are usually able to do that, too except in July when there is music festival and lots of people visit my island.

Well i live in the United States of America and i live in South Florida close to Disney World and very close to South Florida. I have alot of attractions around where i live too. I dont have a favorite place at all i like alot of different stores through the different parts of the city i live in. I like going out west to the outlet shopping place but i also like going to the mall and then i also like just grocery shopping as well. I dont mind going out and doing things with my mom and spending quality time with her and driving around the city or anything at all.

The pictures of Florida that I have seen look very beautiful and and I am also attracted to Florida because of the climate. We don't have a mall on my island, but I like to visit the mall and the other shops on the main island. At the moment I try to avoid it, because I want to save up money for travelling.

I love my City. It is my comfort. I feel relaxed and comfortable in my City. My city, Dumaguete City, is not very crowded nor does it have long traffics. People could just walk through downtown, they are not always in a hurry nor are very busy with work; we are stress free. My city is just simple yet has buildings and malls. People know each other and are friends with each other. And that's why I love my City's simplicity.

Your city sounds like a very nice place to live. I like cities with a relaxed atmosphere and where isn't too much traffic. To me the perfect place to live is a place where there are malls, shops all those things, but not a lot of noice and traffic. I have lived at many different places including big cities, towns and villages. The village where I lived before we moved here was a little too quiet for my liking, I prefer the town where I live at the moment. We can't buy everything here, but we can get the things that we need in our daily life, and when we want to buy other things we visit the neighbour islands.
