I am laughing over your comment --" all parents are same and they always....". thanks. i feel like talking to you in person.
Youngsters should learn to accept a No at times because in life not always can we get what we aspire for.
I wish our friends problems get sorted out and she is able to concentrate on her studies well.

Ashudeep:
You are a student and Dassodils is also a college student. In that age boys and girls will ask many things to be done by parents but ultimately for various reasons such as economic position etc. parents cannot oblige. Young ones should try to understand and not pressurise parents further and further.
I am sure you will conduct nicely, read well, score good marks earn, also do mylotting occasionally.

Sorry, Dassodils but I agree with most of the responders here...It's NOT a need. An Ipod is something you should work for and pay for yourself. There are many other sources of music to listen to while you study. When I was a student, I also studied by music so I don't agree that it is necessarily a distraction. In fact I found silence more a distraction...still do.

I agree with you sid, I guess Dassodils parents thought that it could be a distraction listening to music while studying. I myself once in a while prefers to listen to music while studying or doing my assignments. It gives me inspiration to think more about my studies but not all the time of course. There are many sources that we can think of to listen to our favorite songs, like from a radio but not necessarily from an Ipod.

My first thought was "You're a teenager, right?"
You don't need an iPod. Just because you want one doesn't mean you should have one. And playing the pseudo-guilt card of "I can't concentrate" is a pretty typical adolescent move.
We all do (or did) the same thing at your age. Parents are so mean and unfair and blah blah blah: they're not. They're usually a lot fairer than life is. You just have to learn to live with a "No" as an answer and realise that life doesn't just give you everything you want, just to make you happy. As soon as your parents stop paying for everything, you'll quickly realise how generous and kind they were.
Try humming to yourself if you're desperate for music.

Caring for the child is the responsibility of the parents but buying or not buying an Ipod is not an indication of their parenting skills. My daughter wanted an Ipod a year ago and she went out and earned the money and bought it. She was 17. She held a job and went to school and bought many of the extras like that. She is now 18 and still in school and has a good sense of money and is very responsible. You shouldn't be upset with your parents for saying no to you on this.

Don't be sorry my dear, maybe your parents are just thinking that listening to music will distract your concentration while your studying or doing your assignments. I have noticed too, that some youngsters today prefers their radio on listening to music while studying or doing their homework. I myself do that when I was still in school and it helps me more to concentrate, but I guess your parents have different opinions about that. Or maybe, your parents will borrow and let you listen to an Ipod after your exam or if your not busy with your studies.

Anyway, just be good on your studies and I'm sure your parents will be happy.

Your parents want the best for you that is why they don't want to get you the ipod. You need to concentrate on your studies first and then I'm sure if you do well and ask your parents they will get it for you. You have to show your parents that you are a responsible person and that you won't waste your time on music all day long and that you know what your priorities are. By not concentrating on your studies, you are just confirming your parents decisions was right not to buy the ipod for you so it is better if you study now and show your parents you deserve the ipod for your hard work...

mariab2000..No doubt some of what you say is true, but in my experience some kids just can't concentrate unless they have music in the background. I am the opposite so I can't relate, but my daughter used to be this way when she lived at home. I think maybe as people get older their requirements for concentration change??

Sorry to say that don't get so disappointed for not getting an ipod. If you already got a good mobile phone, that may be good enough to keep the songs. For eg, I got the mobile with a 16GB SD card and stored about 5000 songs including 1500 Malayalam songs and English songs. So, go for a nice moble which gives you really what you want. Try to be economical and you can enjoy life as much you like.
Thank-s

That is really sad especially if you are a music lover like me. But, although you may have some misunderstandings with your parents regarding this iPod situation, always remember that they are just looking out for you. They see what you fail to see and just let them have that. In time, you will understand some of their actions as you grow older and you will find that they mean no harm. Just focus on your studies and divert your frustrations to other fruitful things that could please your parents in a way. Don't be sad. Every day is a new and a hopeful day to be happy and do something great for yourself, for your family and friends so just cheer up okay.
I hope you'll be fine.

Dassodils..This is life and the price you have to pay when you still live with your parents. One day you will be able to make your own decisions..and earn your own money and buy what you want
In the mean time maybe you could talk to your parents and compromise with a small recorder or even the radio to hear music while you study? Maybe even for just a limited time period??
I don't get it, but my kids needed music to study by too..but an Ipod is not the only source of music. Good luck...

hi dassodils,
You are so lucky you were able to have and experience those kinds of things. At my college time I don't even have my own cellphone or any high technology gadget because mt parents or even me was not able to afford one. although I love music very much! During my free time I borrow a guitar to our music teacher and sing with friends, but this is only when we have no important things to do.
back to you, concerning about your parents and your ipod. All I can say is that don't make your hobby to be a habit, there is always time for everything my friend. Your parents have a point of not allowing you to use ipod or any gadget during school days or study periods.

Hi Dassodils: That's bad because in my case for example I also need music to feel concentrated on my work. Try to explain your parents that you actually work better and do your assignments if you are listening to music or just try to look for something that makes you focus your mind on the things you have to do and forget your sadness.

Beginning with the first to tell you that I am sorry for your sadness! I understand the situation perfectly, because I remember when I was a student, my father stopped me from use your computer to play, as it compromised my grades. That said, I do think that anything that makes our parents, although sometimes it may seem wrong, they do it for our benefit! Also I thought a little sick of my father for the issue of the PC, but after some time I realized that that was the only way to make me understand that I must spend my time on the books instead of playing.
That said, dear friend, I do not know what to do for console you!

Dassodils: Sorry --I am also supporting your parent's view. I know at this rate you may be angry over me because I am not able to support your views. The reason -- difference in age and experience that we have gained -- If Ipod is not possible I there are easy versions wherein music can be stored and heard--pl find out--i am not familiar - another option is to listen FM radio music.

It's a trivial matter to make you sad. Your parents are right not to let use an Ipod while you are studying because it can distract your concentration. Better focus first in your studies, Ipod later or after your studies when you are about to go to sleep. Not having an Ipod is not the end of everything. Count what you have not what you don't have.
