Will Power!!!! Where oh where have you gone?
There are lots of us lovely ladies here on mylot who have seen to either have lost you or slighty mislaid you! Could you please come out of hiding and come and help us beautiful ladies on mylot because some of us need you to come back and help us big time as we keep falling off the wagon and need your help so badly!!!
We want to be nice and healthy, eat the correct foods and feel really good about our bodies, but this doesn't seem to be happening and we badly need this to happen..... so if any of us have upset up we are all very sorry and beg your forgiveness and please don't carry on sulking in the corner as we want you back.. NOW, or very soon, pretty please.
Now i have all made you smile I'll ask my question.
Where do you find the will power to keep off all the junk food and keep slim and fit, as I'm having more bad days than good (and making myself feel bad) but just can't get up the hill far enough to get over the hill and stay on the right side and eat all the good things. In the past I have done really good and stayed healthy and eaten all the correct foods and not wanted the junk food like sweets/chocoloate and biscuits, but after day one of being very good I seem to go downhill. I need to find will power very quickly.. erspically as I have brought new jeans and the rate I'm going I will not fit in them very soon!!
I know there are other ladies on here who have lost the will power and would like some help in finding will power
So how do you find will power and stick to it? all answers very welcome and support welcomed as well.
Many thanks

Hiya Anne,
Where hast my Will Power gone lol? I am resolving not to take any notice of certain remarks some Days I have won and others not but I keep going not so much a question of will power as to being firm with yourself and not letting go of your goal.
I find the more Will I put into it the more I flop so I don´t fight I go along with it lol best way for me I don´t know about anyone else.
Usually I eat the right food but I do have the odd Day when I go off the scales so to speak.
Good Job there are not many odd Days like that either.
Hope you can get to your goal and you can still get into those Jeans I am in between two sizes as they have changed the sizes around.
So I have also given up bothering too much whether one is two tight or too loose at least for the moment.
I love Junk Food like no other but I pay for it after well at least sometimes I do all depends what I choose to eat.
So don´t go downhill go uphill bit by bit lol you will get there knowing you you will especially if I send you Robbie Williams back he he he.xxx

Robbie!!!! I forgot he was still with you!!!!!
So you will send him back if I stay good with the Will Power!!! Now that I could work towards if it were so true and I could have him in the flesh!!
I have more bad days at the mo.. have written a very good comment ot the answer before you, so please go and read it, funny in parts.
I can get into my old size eights only because they are so wored and lived in!!!!
Problem is that i'm eating this rubbish food but don't really want it or feel hungry when I eat it? Thats why I need will power.
Going ot plan what I am going ot eat and try and only eat that instead of trying to keep a food dairy. I keep making myself feel ugh but just aren't learning!!!!
Well Tomorrow is another day!!LOL
lovely ot hear from you

Hiya Anne,
Oh yes he was with me now he says he is going back to you lol. I took him off the Naughty Step and said all was forgiven that is the post of yours I lost the other Day lol.
I think I have read it I am trying to write so quickly that I can hardly think.
Ah leave it for today just eat what you want it does not matter just for a Day does it however don´t forget to get to the willpower tomorrow
Ha ha when your clothes like skirts you have worn so much you can fit in them anyway that is a good one.
Good luck with Robbie and best wishes to him from me after all he is in your House for the rest of the Year.
Nice talking to you as well.xxx

Hiya Anne,
What a shame you don´t know who they are lol they star in the Series called "The Adventures of Merlin". Don´t know what Channel they would be on over there they are two really dishy guys so I am going to keep them all for me you cannot have those he he he.
Well you are doing well with your Diet well done gal keep it going.
Oh I would love to have a Port of Sherry every so often but none here to speak of.
Good going with your getting extra Work sounds like you have a nose for finding those Jobs hope you keep them as I said cash is a must right now.
Nobody heard of Robbie Williams what? We can´t have that can we now?
I know that is a British Series at least the Actors are English at least most of them are John Hurt plays the Voice of the Dragon I find it really entertaining even though they repeat Episodes as some of them I have not seen.
They have put a lot of work into that Series and its really well done with a lot of imagination. Innovative is the description I would give it although I did like "Camelot" as well but they made the last two Episodes vanish altogether and I have not got to see the last two Episodes not even on you tube.xxx

Will Power will be enhanced if losing weight and to be healthy is our priority. If we really have the guts to do it then we can do it. We just have to encourage ourselves that we can do it and all we have to do is to sacrifice harder

Yes you are so correct... and as Scarlet O Hara says tomorrow is another day!!LOL Trouble is i keep saying that!!
I think instead of writing a food diary of what I eat I should plan what I'm going ot allow myself to eat and "stick" to it and tick the foods off as I eat them.
I just can't say no at the mo and I really don't want any of this food, just feel the need to eat it even though I'm not hubgey!! Daft I do know.

You know, back when I wrote my book, I could write all day and not eat a thing. Perhaps because I was having fun and really getting into my writing that I was bored or hungry. Now that I am taking classes, most of which I rather not take, I found that I am constantly nibbling. I haven't gained a lot, mostly my muscle has turned to fat due to lack of exercise, but I hope come spring I can change that and start getting out more often.

My short and truthful answer is that my willpower to eat sensibly and keep fit is that I never want to see the inside of a cardiac unit again! I am about to have a part of my kidney removed and losing weight and being fit(ter) means that I didn't receive the lecture about obesity before surgery. Being alive is a far sweeter option than the alternative especially when it might come in so many painful ways! On a more mundane level, buy a dress (or variation of) that you absolutely CANNOT afford and that is two sizes too small. Hang it where you can see it and tell yourself that you will fit into it be X date. Then work to that goal. It can and does work. But you have to be focussed. You wouldn't allow yourself to harm your child so apply the same logic to yourself.

Just came in for a quick read and had ot reply ot you.
I can't buy a dress two sizes too small as I'm only an English size 8! I woud be in thin air if I brought a dress two sizes smaller. Made me laugh so very much, so very very many thanks yous.
I want ot stay a size 8 but jeans getting tight and plus the rubbish food is making me too tired and not wanting ot od anything etc and makes my body feel awful, I always call it a hangover in my tummy!!
I shall be smiling ALL the rest of the afternoon until I get back on here as you have made me laugh so much. Thank you so much again.
By the way I had a very good day yesterday and am having a very good food day today as well, catch out for my comments sometimes to night, will be a bit busy, going ot hairdresser's later, and I have scout run and family to sort out otnight but I shall be back with my big grin on my face!!!

I think you need to quit beating yourself up over stuff and just work on it day by day. You do the best you can each and every day. Then you start over the next day and do the same thing. Maybe it becomes easier maybe not. And if you mess up badly one day then the next day you make up for it. Geesh girl!

Ann18: Will power for restricting our diet, habits etc. is lying within us. if we understand that it is good to be good in our eating habits, drinking habits then we will certainly be more careful.
Ultimately as on becomes old the fear is that he or she should not be a burden to others. In your case you have to take care of your husband and children besides taking care of yourself.
Repeatedly you have to tell -- I am fine, I will be fine-- and keep running, running all the time.
have a nice day

I read an article some time ago entitled "You are not hungry, you are thirsty!" It talked about all the health problems that arise from people being dehydrated and not realizing it. It said that once people are really dehydrated they lose their normal sense of thirst and do not realize it. It also said that some of the things people drink (soda pop I believe was one example) really dehydrate us more and that what we all ought to do is make sure we are getting enough pure water every day.
At the time I was not into drinking water, and at first it was hard to get into the habit. Seriously, at first I would only drink a sip or two at a time. So I used mechanical devices to count how much I was drinking and really worked at having a little more each day. One device was to wear 10 skinny bracelets on my left arm and take one off and put it on the right every time I finished ONE eight ounce glass of water. That way my reminders went with me everywhere, unlike counting on a scrap of paper that gets lost. Well, anyway, after some time I got my natural thirst back and now I know when to drink some water without needing a reminder. I freeze the water overnight in a bottle and take it everywhere, drinking it as it thaws.
I don't know if Will Power had anything to do with it; maybe it was more like planning ahead. In many areas of life I have found that planning ahead is way more effective than trying to dance between good and bad.

I have also read that and I have upped my intake of cold drinks, but my rant also helped so much as I have been really good since then.
Have had lots of wonderful responses on my discussion, lots of people giving help and ideas and ways to get back on track and how they get back on track.
Think its going ot be a long time until I fall off the wagon again as I feel so wonderful within my body now I have cleansed it and got rid of all the rubbish food that was in it

Willpower! What is wrong with you?!? Get out from under that bed this instant and do what you do!
I suppose for me it depends on what I am willing. Unfortunately willpower has a way of being selective for me. I just wish it would quite being so picky. I have very little willpower when it comes to chocolate and the truth is that I think willpower likes it quite a bit too.

Hi Anne. I have been sooooo busy this evening thanks to a very good cyber space friend of mine.
As for your subject here, I need to know also. I haven't gotten so bad in the last 3 or so years. I think it's cause my family and friends kept dying. It's hard to get through and then the economy got bad. Anyways, I picked up some very unhealthy habits, and haven't seemed to be able to let go yet. Everytime I go to the Veterans Hospital and get weighed I am in disbelief. I NEVER ever thought I would be overweight. I was always so skinny until only about 6 or so years ago. Unbelievable!
I put some jeans on today and they were so hard to zip and button that I just put on a belt that I could pull as tight as I wanted in order for them to almost meet at the waist. I'm sisck and tired of this!
HELP!

It has been great to read lots of good support on mylot as well which has helped as well.
You can do it as well, we should make a diet support discussion on here and we can all pitch in how we are doing etc

LOl, yes Will Power can come back to live in my house too! He can come help me get back into eating foods that aren't salty, and into exercising everyday! I am slowly getting back into my old routine but man did I lose my sense of control when we where all over the place the last few months. Not living at home running all over the place to get stuff or work on our home. Time was always gone and no time to cook. Now after a month of no fast food alone we have all lost weight so I am hoping now that we have a stove in we will lose even more as I can cook real food now!

For me, I've found that it is a lot easier to maintain my will power if I don't exclude anything from my diet. So, instead of saying that I can never have any kind of junk food, I will allow myself to have some junk food, but only when it is in moderation.
When I do that, I find that I can eat things that I crave, but it doesn't cause a lot of heavy repercussions on my diet.
@Anne18 (11029)

That is good, but sadly I can't always say no once I have started eating the junk food etc, so it is best not ot have any at all, problem was I was eating this food for the sake of eating it, not craving it.
But all back on track now, my rant helped me ot get back on track and wise words from fellow mylotters, woke up a new woman with a different lookout the day after I wrote this discussion

I think that's the answer dorannmwin. I eat chocolate and ice cream in vast quantities sometimes but I'm still losing weight. I've cut right down on between meal eating, cooking and meal quantities. I have also developed more interest in my garden and taken up a new hobby which means I'm too busy to eat because I'm bored. I'm down 10kg and counting.

Will power is the most important thing. Without all this, we cannot think positive. The book I have read said that what you think, it will all come true. It is like magic. Believe in magic. Just think about “magic”, ha ha but if you cannot stop thinking about those delicious foods, all you have to do is go to sleep and imagine. Pretend that you are eating something that you really like, ha ha but do not do it in reality.

Do you want to make a diet because you really want to ? Or is it because of the society have some standards ?...
Lets imagine you are in a middle of a diet and you are doing fine. What motivated you to do it ?
You can start by setting yourself with small steps that you can start following right away like , eating one tomato everyday at the morning as the first thing that you eat and a fruit everytime you want a candy (but you can also eat a candy after it if you want ). Salads are very good to our health and I bet many discussions here about salads can make you crazy on vegetables. You will forget what a candy is. You can even enjoy the diet so will power won't be needed.
Maybe you can read about the vegetables health advantages on the internet or at some discussions here on mylot. Mylot has many of them. I'm sure you know about it.
Let's assume you have succeeded with your diet . What are the positive results that came out to you for doing so ?
The secret is to find your deepest reason for motivation for doing what you want. Will power is also good but maybe you can find a reason that actually talks to your deepest good intentions : Maybe your husband will give you more affection ? maybe your kids will love you more ? maybe you will be able to do things that you have stopped a long time ago and you really miss them ?
Find your own tools for dealing with problems , those tools you are most solidar with. Those came from you.

I hope others reading this have found peace with your understanding words

Yes you speak wise words again, yes it was me that did it, but I needed the rant and wise words of fellow mylotters to get me back on track.
I love mylotting, just not enough hours in the day to mylot.
Oh yes my children are very healty. They have fresh fruit on there natural yogurt in the mornings. Thre different fruits in there lunch boxes, they choose which three pieces of friut they want in order that I know they will actually eat the friut. Always have at least two or three veggies besides potatoes at tea time. so they are very good, they are allowed treats etc as well so it isn't all dull in the house. Made homemade fruit puds etc.

hi anne its easier when you are diabetic. sounds o dd but if one checks one;s blood sugar every day three or four times You learn
what foods will shoot you up high and what will not. and fruits
and vegetables are our friends mostly , and most lean meat
too. I was fou nd to have low thyroid so my doctor put me on
tyroid medication. Now then I cut back on things that will shoot
my blood sugar up I also start losing weight slowly but am doing
it. Started at 210 and am down to 195. my goal finally well be 150. now that sounds big but compared to how I am now it will make me so happy;lI do not consider chocolate as junk food because dark chocolate is fu ll of anti oxidants that are good for staving off heart trouble. so I eat several squares of very dark chocolate every day. I am allowed small portions of some sweets as long as my blood sugar remains where it belongs. I cut out very little as if you do that its what you will crave. portion control is the name of the game for us diabetics.

I think my friend Mr. Will Power is not exclusive to ladies!
I often pass him going out the door, as I go inside fast food restaurants. Or see him walk pass through an intersection as I drive through McDonalds (or A&W, or Arby's).
But I like my friend Mr. Will Power. He understands that I don't need him when all I want is sink my teeth into a big juicy hamburger.

Women can loose self confidence easily by seeing others. They have to come out from it first. By stopping comparison women can be live freely and they can keep looking fresh without any tension.
Family support is also necessary.

Support from loved ones and family members can solidify your will power. If people around you will support you, you'll get more inspired and more determined with your weight loss. You have to push yourself to the your limits as well. Personally, i have lost more than 60 pounds by pushing myself. Just remember this quote " No pain, no gain".
