Could this be just co-incidence or a realization of Biblical prophesy?

"They say to the wood, 'You are my father.', and to the stone, 'You gave me birth.'. They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say, 'Come and save us!'."--- Jeremiah 2:27
I usually associate this verse to the catholics' way of addressing Jesus Christ as "Papa Jesus" and Mary, His Mother, as "Mama Mary". What is very perplexing is that their Jesus is usually made of wood and that Mary is personified as graven stone/chalk statue.
Another coincidence is that these catholics speak and turn to God when there are troubles in their life.
So, my fellow mylotters, are you share with me on this insight?

This verse in Jeremiah 2:27 is a proof that the Bible is relevant yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. This was written thousands of years ago but look around and see how every word still applies and how every evidence shows that the Word of God cannot lie.
Jeremiah 2:27 speaks of the stupidity of all people (not only Catholics) who practice idol worship. The tree, or the stone, or any other thing is God's creation and a revelation that there is one Supreme Creator of all, but what would these pagans do, they cut the tree, or get a stone, curve it into a idol. They worship the creation instead of the Creator. This is why the wrath of God is revealed from heaven. All because of ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. They want to make their own god even if their very conscience and the creations stand as strong witness that there is God. They want to live as if there is no God. They'd rather just worship a fake god because they know this idol can't hear nor see their evil deeds. Professing to be wise, these people become fool. What a sad reality!
the sottish stupidity of this people, to take a lifeless stock or stone to be their maker, and to give the honour of God unto them to be their maker, and to give the honour of God unto them

Indeed it may sound harsh but the Catholics are into paganism. They want to see Jesus in the form of graven images without knowing they are guilty of idolatry. They worship Mary in their deeds even if they deny it. They pray to saints and every graven images they could ever have, not knowing they are making fools out of themselves in the process. They are either ignorant of what the Bible says or they know but they want to suppress the truth all because of their respect for tradition. It is disgusting to hear "Papa Jesus" and Mama Mary" from them because that is not what the Bible teaches us. We who know the truth in the Bible are offended by these unbiblical deeds. Nevertheless lest we be so judgmental of the Catholics let us also see our own fault in this verse. We might not be idol worshipers like the Catholics and the other pagans but have we not turn back from God in one way or another? Have we not forgotten God out of our busyness in pursuing our worldly desire? We might be making an idol out of just about anything that we pursue and desire more than Jesus.
We should also examine ourselves and see if the words..."They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say, 'Come and save us!'."- do not apply to us as well.
Aren't we also guilty of taking God for granted and speaking to Him only when we are in trouble? Remember Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

True worship is an inner thing. Maybe young pre-Catholics think they're worshiping the cross or the statue or the fresco or the mural, but true (Confirmed) Catholics know that those things are just representations of G-d (just as a photograph isn't actually the object photographed).
Every word you say (to yourself, to someone else) is spoken to God also. Naturally, you're addressing him differently when you request something than -when you're thankful for something he already gave; same as it would be with anyone else.

And think if you were G-d. Wouldn't YOU want people to so appreciate your works that they build things in your works' images? to your works' glory?
Or would you rather destroy everything except yourself & the GodHead? (I say 'GodHead because--as I hope you would realize before you destroy anything--there is a little part of G-d in everything he creates---sorta like a 'generation' of the Daleks from DOCTOR WHO.)

Interesting scripture. When we read the Bible, we can see that those who were supposed to worship the true God, YHWH, Yahweh or Jehovah, often turned away from Him and worshipped gods of other nations and pictures made of wood and stone. So that has happened many times in the history, also before the Catholics existed.
But obviously using pictures in our worship is against what the Bible teaches us.
"23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”" John 4 (New Living Translation)
It is a good thing that we can find worshippers that don´t use pictures in their worship. http://www.watchtower.org/e/20090201a/article_01.htm

Are you sure that Jehovah is really the name of God? Your publication Reasoning Through Scriptures in page 191 admits that modern Masoreths adopted the name Jehovah because of people's familiarity with it even though Jews and Christians of old do not know of such name, and that the true pronunciation of God's Hebrew name YHWH vanished as it has not been long used.

For me, i against on what catholic practice about they worshipping graven images, and even it is clear that the abible says thou shalt not worship any graven images or likeness..Exodus chapter 20..
God is jealouse GOD and angry about to people who worship like that..But God is patient, still given a chance to repent.

Hello, JER616. This is very interesting. I do believe that events in time repeat themselves. I also think that you may be very correct. I am not as well versed in catholic icons as you are, but I think that for now it is safe to say that you may have a great point.
I just think that we all cry out to "GOD" when we are in trouble. I know that I do. I do also understand in what context you are talking about. I have had a very trying month, and I didnt always cry out to "GOD". But now I cry to him for strength. But, I do agree with you on many of your points. Have a great day. :)

AMEN! Yes, samar. It is very perplexing that people who have obtained higher education continue to bow and kneel before wood, stone, plastic, paper and metal with images of men and women. What is so odd that these same people question the Bible claiming that it was written by men. They are refuting the Bible because of this claim yet what they are worshipping and kneeling before are also made by men!
