The government is going to revise my pension as retired Professor following another pay fixation. I had to submit photographs, papers that need several declarations, signatures and impressions of all five fingers of LEFT HAND of mine and my wife Kalyani’s.
If I die she will get pension till her death as per family pension rules.
Finger prints are unique in the sense, it will never change, suppose your finger gets an wound or partially burnt, when the new skin comes, it has the same pattern again; no two finger prints are identical, even those of the twins.
They took prints of all fingers, ok, we may lose some fingers who knows, if one is left that is enough for identification.
But I wonder, why that of LEFT HAND ONLY?
What about your place and country, do they ask for finger prints?
Have you ever submitted for any reason?
Add your thought.
Please respond, comment on this and share your opinion.

Thanks in advance.
Let’s enjoy life to fullest.

I have had a few jobs that required finger printing. Security and government jobs. Sometimes it was hard for me to roll my hand appropriately. I can only suppose that your left hand has less wear and tear than your right, unless you are left handed.

And below you said that it didn't matter whether they were left or right handed but they always asked for the left. ???
according to this, both hands are recorded:

In the US it is both hands, but since Professor is in India, maybe they just do one hand.

In india we a have great tradition that we can say the future and past by seeing their finger prints.
Finger prints are playing crucial role in many criminal cases.
Just now i have checked, my both hands have dissimilar finger prints.

Hi Professor,
I am guessing that you are right-handed?? If I remember correctly, the reason for using the left hand would be because that print would be the clearest and truest as opposed to the right hand which gets used more. A left-handed person would be asked for a print of their right hand.

I am right handed sid
They ask for finger prints of left hand only, whether the person is right handed or left handed.

Finger prints are interesting. I don't recall ever having to get my finger prints taken. I had my daughters taken once to make a missing persons kit incease something ever happened to her.

dear dada,
Here in our country we do a lot of finger prints when processing papers.
We have our finger prints submitted when applying for SSS- (Social Security Service)
When renewing DL.
When applying for NBI (National Bureau of Investigation)
And a lot more..
But we do it both hands, or both thumbs (left and right)
hugs to you and maa

Hi Professor,
So far that isn't happening here with my social security. I don't get any other pension. That is good though, because your wife will be cared for financially should anything happen to you.

I'm very happy for you prof my friend, in our country, our finger print is in our voter's identification card and our finger prints are taken every time we cast our vote. Yes finger prints are very reliable up to now for purposes of identification although when it comes to forensics other methods have been developed like DNA and many more
