I have tried to take up tasks i see here on mylot and on microworkers. Some of them though ask for your email and even IP address. What could they possibly do with those things? I don't think it's safe... Please tell me what you know. Thank you

Some tasks will ask for your email address or IP address in order to verify that you have completed the task, particularly if the task involves signing up to a site. If you have used an email address in joining a site, then that address will often be displayed to the person whose referral you are. Other sites may show your IP address and so the task owner will need you to supply that in order to verify that you completed the task. Every site you visit is able to see your IP address - it needs to know it, in fact, in order to be able to display the site to you at all - so it is not "restricted information" and, although the machine you are using (and therefore your location) can, theoretically, be traced, it is not classed as "personally identifiable" or "sensitive" information. When doing tasks such as this, be careful to understand why the task owner needs the information (usually username, email address or IP address). If it is not clear that they need it to verify that you have completed the task, then do not accept the task.

Yes, it IS possible to connect to someone's computer using the IP address IF you know about 'ports' (there are several thousand to choose from and only a few, if any, allow inward connections) and IF the computer hasn't got an adequate firewall (which most Windows computers have, these days). It is NOT quite as easy as just putting the IP address into the browser or whatever and immediately being able to see everything on the computer and download stuff!

I understand Aja, because I didn't know how my cousin's son turned on his dad's computer from another home, but he can do it and I thought it was because he had his dad's IP address, but maybe not.

Basically they need your IP to asociate it with your account, in order for you to have a simgle account. In my opinion no harm can come to you by giving your IP address. Your IP is checked every time you access the Internet, otherwise you can not receive data from the Internet, yet it is irrelevant for other uses than identifying your computer.

Hi! I don't think it would be safe to do that. Our IP address is like our personal mailing address. Giving it to some stranger would be like giving them the chance to invade our privacy, or worst, give them a chance to break to our home. Although, I'm not really sure how an IP address works, I still think it would be best to not share it to anyone.

Good question, and I replied to owlwings box for clarification because I thought if one had an IP address, that computer can be hacked into. But don't take my word for it, wait and see what owlwings says.

Same here, no money and I depend on my computer for my college classes, so there is no way I would risk it. But I haven't seen if owlwings replied back, he is usually knowledgeable about these things..

The employer need to have it to verify you have done the task or been to the assigned website as demanded, the employer server log in list will show your IP address as claimed by you. I consider it is safe and don't need to worry uncessarily.

As little as I know about internet and computers, every site owner can see your IP address when you loging on the site. Actually, some sites will display your IP address, since it's just require simple script to achieve that. As for why those info is necessary, it could be different reasons, but mainly it's because to identify your geoposition, as some offers are geotargeted, and to avoid multiple signups from same computer. As for e-mail address, it's often a way to identify the user on the site. So, simply create gmail address (or few them), and use them for this purposes.
