i come from a tropical country and we have fresh coconut readily available. applying coconut milk to the hair and scalp is good in eliminating dandruff and it also helps in keeping our hair shiny and healthy.

I think it depends on the cause. Dandruff can be caused by dry scalp, in which case it might help to not wash the hair so often. Dandruff can also be caused by an imbalance of the pH or even by infections. If you don't have dry scalp, try rinsing your hair after shampooing with apple cider vinegar. Use one part vinegar to four parts of warm water. Pour it over your head and work it in, like you would shampoo. You can rinse it off briefly so you won't smell funny, but it works better if you don't. The smell wears off in a few minutes anyway.
