Hello folks, I'm currently in Zamboanga. The heat here is enough for you to faint while walking in the streets at noontime. There's so many factories here, this is one of the reasons why the heat is skyrocketing here. Anywho, I just want to share my impression of the Latin City in Asia. Before going here, my parents don't want me to accept this offer, knowing all those news about bombing here. I was a little hesitant also. I'm afraid to stay in a very dangerous place. But after I stayed here for almost a month my impression of Zamboanga changed. The place is peaceful, the people are nice. I'm just saddened that when the news comes out in televisions, they tend to generalize the whole of Zamboanga when in fact the war is taking place in the mountainous area, far enough from the city. I'm enjoying my stay here, the only thing that I don't like is the temperature. Zamboanga is a very nice city. And the people here speak Chabakano, Bisaya, Muslim, tagalog and and some Ilonggo.

I'm sorry, I didn't have time to visit the spots here but I'm going to Basilan next Saturday. The Jollibee food chain is doing great there. According to my friends here, there are many beautiful beaches in Zamboanga.

Wow! That's nice to know. I have lived here my whole life. I know what you mean about the news being overly expressed. Once, when we had a vacation in Batangas visiting my grandparents and relatives, they wouldn't let us come back because of the news about this city. It seemed so scary in the news but as you've said, this events takes place away from the city and even on islands far away. Anyway, I'm glad that you are liking the place. I hope you get to enjoy it more here.

I have friends there in Zamboanga and I've heard that that place is fantastic. I'm planning to go there some time but I don't think it would be soon. My main agenda when I get there is to get my hands on as much tuna as I can. I just love tuna!

This is a very nice post. =) I am a Chavacano and my grandmother is a ZamboangeƱa. Zamboanga is really a nice place. There are a lot of places to visit. It's a pity how much the mass media can sensationalize a city. Say for example the word Mindanao. People from Luzon are afraid of visiting Mindanao because of how the mass media uses the term "gulo sa Mindanao" or the "on-going war in Mindanao". The war is isolated from city proper. It is very unfair to be generalized. It's like killing the tourism in the entire Mindanao area.
