especially on a slice of toast with a sprinkling of cheese!.....just kidding folks
I do love cats and have two, one tomcat that is white with a brown head that has a weird hitler like flick and to cap it off he has half a hitler moustache. the other cat is a female tortouseshell.
the great thing about cats is when i am down they seem to know and cheer me up. is this common to all pets? i cannot imagine a parrot seeing you upset and perching on your sholder saying "who's a pretty boy then?" to make you feel better.
what pet do you have and does it have a calming effect on you?
If anyone says that they have a pet tarantula that kisses them goodnight i shall pee myself!!!

hi ajk and lilaclady I also love cats and this group of feral
cats , all kind and colors breaks my heart.I am in a retirement
center and my room overlooks the back of a huge vietnamese
grocery store. we have from a dozen to 15 cats from alley,to
marmalade to two pure siameese adn one black cat, people evidently dumped them off there. some of the residents used to put out cat food'
for them but the o wneres do not want us to do this. one resident wanted to help a cat and tried to pick it up. she got viciously clawed
the poor things need someone to feed tham properly and gind homes
for them. one group was going to come and pick themn up but i guess they changed their minds.I like In So u thern California in Little Saigon wow. these are the boat people who fled Vietnam and landed here in Orang county 'California they take u p about 25 square blocks. They are really great neigjbprs quioet well mannered friendly and law abiding. also they care fr their own elderly people.

i have always wanted a siamese as they are so beautiful and intelligent but i refuse as i will not pay for a cat when there are so many loving cats needing a good home.
i used to feed a feral one eyed cat that had kittens and gradually she would approach me to take food from my hand. i managed to find homes for all the kittens which was nice.

Hi ajk
The only pet I ever had was my Alsatian(german shepard) - Poppy. She was really one of those pets which knew exactly what was on your mind and would do almost everything to cheer you up - play with you, tease you, wake you up in the morning or even wait for your return in the evening from work. I never trained her for any of this. But she did do all of these. Unfortunately she was stuck with some illness during her last two years and the pain she suffered during those fits attacks (not sure what they were but the vets kept saying this) was unbearable for all of us in the family. Since then I never have a heart to keep any pet again and re-go the pain.
She was a family member among us and I still remember how she would keep mom aware that she needs her share too in those mangoes or even never enter the room where we did our prayers, but sit outside it (right at the door) praying when we all would be in it. I also remember her waking me up in the mornings, no one in my family has the guts to wake me up (even today) as I would throw anything I can get hold of on them but she had this permit... Quite feel that she was somewhere my sibling or even parent in some former births.... Miss her more than many I know

another example of extraordinary pets. Poppy sounds like a true great friend and from what you have written i can feel the passion and bond you both shared. it must of been awful to watch her in pain.
i am so sorry she is gone but i am glad you have such wonderful memories of poppy.

We are a family of animal lovers: 3 dogs, 3 cats, 3 fish and a turtle. (And we've had plenty of birds and rodents along the way too)
Our outdoor cat has been with us for as long as we've lived in this house. She gave birth to our downstairs cat. The upstairs cat is her granddaughter. Seriously!
My oldest daughter is moving into the basement soon - and wanting her own cat for down there. That will be 1 cat per floor of the house!! um..cats don't rule our house? do they?

Actually, they each have their own territory - as stated. The upstairs and downstairs are separated by a door to the stairway. The dogs and downstairs cat stay downstairs. The upstairs cat stays upstairs. And the outdoor cat stays outdoors!
The basement cat will stay in the basement :D

I have big ole Moses who is part chow and part rotweiler. He weighs 100 pounds and is just my big ole baby boy. I go him when I lived deep in the woods by myself. When he got a few weeks old I knew I had done the right thing, cause his bark was just what I wanted. He was in the house once and when he barked it sound like my house was gonna explode.
I have little princess who is a three year old blue fawn apple head chihuahua with very funny tannish, colors. Even her nose and around her mouth and eyes where most are darker, has those lite colors. She looks almost albinoish. She has to be in my lap or against me and I love it. It just feels right when she cuddles me and takes a deep breath.
I have one cat now, Survivor, as she was a kitten when she survived out of 6 that I had when I lived in the woods. Something was getting the grown cats and the momma and 2 out of 3 kittens in one night, so I brought her in and named her Survivor. She loves to cuddle, but sometimes she wants to lay right across my neck at night and her hair gets in my nose and I can't breath.

We have had several pets all our life. At the moment for various reasons they have been reduced to just a rooster and a dog. The attached image is that of our cats which were in our life some years ago.

cats definitely sense when something is wrong, they have a built in radar, just recently i was a bit down in the dumps, my cats were right there next to me keeping me company, did you know that cats can sense a thunder storm or rain even before it starts, it's amazing how cats know so much, i have 2 cats, if i am feeling a bit "twitchy" they know, my black cat has always been a very nervous girl, she was like that when i got her, she doesn't like noise, loud noise, if voices are raised, or it my grandkids are here she runs a mile, cats sense all kinds, even if someone is feeling low, they are trusty pets and will always be there for us

Cats in fact are lovable species of animals. But never rely on them for faithful friendship. They are at times avaricious and would not in any way care for their masters. All their exhibitionism by way of affection for those who rear, are just pretensions for gaining their own self goals.

hi ajk I had a dog named swap that seemed to automatically know whenb
I was going hypo and would tug my wrist till I got my glucometer and checked my blood sugar. He was always right, how he knew I do not know but now they have dogs bred to be helpers to tell you when your are going hypo glycemic or very low blood sugar.he also knew when I did not feel well and would crowd up into my chair with me
and give me a soft woof as though to say I know you feel bad but you will feel betterr soon.I hated it when I had to find a good home for himn as we were moving in to an apartment c omplex and most all of them will not allow dogs or cats.

I have two friends who love cats a lot. They pamper their cats and treat them as their kids. Maybe you can relate with them. Me... no, I don't like cat. I like dogs more than cats. At least with my dogs I have faithful watchers. Cats can be so annoying, they make lots of noise at night and I hate it.

I would pee myself too if I saw that in this discussion
I have a little dog named Eva that warms my heart. She is a teacup chihuahua and she chose me the moment we got her. As I am typing now, she is in my lap and as long as I am in this house, she will not leave my side. She is a bit aggressive and jealous when it comes to me. My b/f teases her and acts like he is going to grab me. She comes unglued. I can't say that I remember ever having such a close relationship with an animal before although I have loved many. She does have a calming effect on me. I love her

Haha, we have a few tarantulas here, we go in and watch them at night before we go to bed, going about their business, feeding and webbing, but we stop short of kissing them goodnight!
Other than each other, the only one we kiss goodnight in our house is our African Grey, who always kisses us back :)

I also love cats and have two of them. I like how soft their fur feels when I am stressed out and this usually calms me down. I just don't like them rubbing against my leg when I am wearing dark colored slacks because my pants will catch most of their fur and I need to brush these off. I also own a pair of African lovebirds. Whenever I would hand feed them, it also calms me down.

I love cats as well, but at the moment I couldn't eat a whole one. . I knew there was a reason for moggies, but I just couldn't think of one. Cats don't do cheering up (unless they want something) they are only kidding you, why do you think that human's best friend is canine - not feline.

Okay, your last sentence made me laugh
I have dogs at home and cute puppies.
I also have a cat and she's really charming.
My puppies are the ones giving me reason to wake up everyday.
I checked on them and play every morning.
