I know they have been around for a while but in the last few years I have done my share of experimenting with different flavor combinations and colors as well as decorating. I have made so many that I can't even begin to tell you that I thought my kids might just throw them at me the next time I made them but I have noticed lately that it seems a lot of people are doing so many new things with cake pop's that it has almost blown my mind the neat things that can be done. I am in awe as these people work thier magic with these round little sweet treats. Have you tried making them? They are not near as hard to make as I thought they would be when I first started but the decorating is very creative, I have seen pretty much everything and then some. Think I may soon need a cake pop's anonymous group soon or my family may call an intervention. Anyway, making some more tommorow for my son's eigth birthday party and I am hoping he and his friends like them.

Oh yes cake pops are definitely one of my new favorites in the baking world. I think their addition has opened up so many doors into creating innovate and tasty baking treats! The best part about them, like you said, is the fact that we can use them to indulge in our other interests, like decorating and designing.
I agree that despite their complex flavors and beautiful shapes, they are quite easy to make. I find the best way is to just bake a normal cake, like chocolate, or good old angel cake, and then to just destroy it! Yes I mean mashing it up while its still hot, and then to add frosting, and you're ready to make those pops! A lot of people dip straight in, but I find that pre-dipping the sticks in some melted chocolate or whatever crust you're going for helps the pops form better.
In my opinion, the best part about cake pops is the fact that they are so tiny, but pack such a huge punch of flavor. They are also really splendid at parties or other social events when there are multiple sets of them, because you get to try a bunch of different cake/frosting flavors, without having to feel guilty - as 4 or 5 pops is still only about one slice of cake. Oh how I love these delicious treats!

Who doesn't like cake pops? They are just messy to make. I saw a recipe this week where they used brownies instead of cake. I think that might taste more like fudge balls. Going to try it this coming weekend. Have fun at the party!
