No difference that I know of. Here in Ireland we call them mobile phones or mobiles, and in the USA they call them cell phones or cells. I remember a number of years ago an American friend asked me for my cell and I was quite baffled as to what that might be until I put two and two together and realised it was my mobile phone number!

Hi sb,
There's not much difference. A cell phone is called as such due to the receptor antenna called "cells" arranged along its path of travel, getting the signals as it go along, thus making it "mobile", enabling the user to communicate without interruption.
