Especially if the topic I very long and quite uninteresting.. I am making it right now and I currently have 23 slides... at least I am halfway done. I wonder why people give long topics instead of short ones so that we can focus on it and explain it better to the class... I hope the report goes well and my classmates listen to me..

When I was in college, I think the same way as you did. But it was later in my life that I realize what benefits I could gain from these reporting. Just like the benefits you gain from solving an algebra that you don't know when will become useful. My father told me a lot of what we do while studying don;t just give us knowledge but skills that will help us in the future. Reporting had developed my confidence and practiced my skills in conversing or teaching. It became my bread and butter. Now, aside from being a customer service representative, I also teach in college and with the skills I have obtained from numerous reports I had when I was still studying, so far, I may say I'm on top of my teaching career. As with algebra, well, I had developed my analytic thinking. If you had read my post way back, you'd remember that I handle Claims and handling hospital claims and thinking why one gets denied when everything seems right, makes use of that analytic thinking algebra had contributed. So good luck! Just a tip, when you do report, make sure you understand what you're delivering. It's not about memorizing the whole piece. It's getting the concept of what you're trying to deliver.

I don't like reporting, too! I'm always nervous when I'm speaking in front of many people even if I know the topic so well. I remember the first time I reported back in high school. I liked the topic a lot but I ended up just reading my notes without so much looking at my classmates. I'm just not really a good speaker.
But I observed that if I'm reporting in front of many people that I'm comfortable with, like my office mates, I tend to get nervous just a little. And along the way, I feel so much at ease. It's different when I'm speaking in front of people that I'm not very comfortable with, like my classmates in graduate school. We're all not friends so I'm not very comfortable with all of them and so I get nervous a lot when I'm reporting.

It is not really my cup of tea either when I was doing it. Especially when walking that tightrope between getting all of the information in and making it engaging enough where people can really listen to it. That was an exercise of frustration for me many times. I think that when we do any kind of presentation, that is a hard thing.
A lot of the time, I think that I did fine. Other times, not so fine. There were times where my level of frustration tends to increase. So yeah it is just best to take a deep breath and to go with your original plan. Which is much harder if you have an audience that is dying out there, interest wise. Just stick with the plan and hope that you can reel them back in.

Well, i also dislike oral presentations, especially if the topic is technical and the tendency to be boring. It's hard enough that I can be bored but also my audience whose gonna receive it. I try to make it simple and interesting as possible but sometimes, there is so little that I can do.
Good luck on your presentation and your slides. I guess the only thing I can help you is to insert some interesting stories or facts relating to your report. That can amuse and liven up your audience.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I always get the comment that I'm not able to keep it interesting for the rest of the class. It's not really my fault though really, the subjects we get are so boring you tend to stop listening after hearing the title. And they're always freakishly long as well...
