Mutual fund or Treasury bonds

I want to learn how to invest money on stocks but I am scared. Are these risky? However, I am interested in Mutual funds. Is this a good choice? Some of my friends suggest that I invest instead on Treasury bonds. What are the difference between these two and are they both risky?
