i have recently recieved my new glasses which i love! i got them from the US which took a while as i live in the UK.
they are shuron ronsir which to anyone i tell means nothing but i adore them.

I do use my glasses once in awhile especially when in a hurry and no time to wear my contact lens.I like to choose glasses with nice design that will really compliment with my face.As of now I do have two glasses, one is a plastic that I leave and used at work and the other one is a titanium rimless which is really so light that I use at home.

Thankfully, I don't have to wear glasses. I used to, but I don't anymore. I needed glasses mainly because my eyesight needed a little improvement. It was hardly anything at all. It's really been a while since I've seen an optometrist, though.

I wear glasses for old age. I used to have very good eyesight when I was young. But as I grew older and older, my eyesight grew worse. So I have to wear my glasses when I read. It is not convenient with glasses on. I don't like glasses.

I know what you mean about feeling vulnerable in glasses! Do you think it's because you're not used to wearing them or because your peripheral vision is gone? I say, both! That's why I feel weird in glasses. I have to get used to them all over again when I wear them for longer periods of time. I've had to wear a prescription since I was five years old. I wore glasses from five years old until I was probably fifteen or sixteen. Then I finally got a prescription for contact lenses. I felt weird in those at first, too, because I wasn't used to seeing that much of my face! I also felt like I had to wear more makeup lol! However, now that I wear contacts all the time during the day, at work, etc., I feel weird when I have to wear my glasses again. My glasses are a really cute (and expensive!) Kate Spade brand, which I like. They're the thick, kind of chunky, dark brown frames, which are really in style right now. I didn't really think of glasses as having a style or as a fashion accessory, but they really are just like jewelry and so on. I like your glasses, too, by the way! Aren't they expensive, though? Sometimes I think the frames are more expensive than the prescription lenses! Have you found this to be true too? I always have to try on my glasses before I buy them too. Did you say you got yours online? That's amazing that you could pick them out like that. I hope you like them! A good pair of glasses that looks nice is hard (and pricey) to find. To answer your question, I do take pride in my glasses in case my contacts don't work out, and I have to wear my glasses out in public. So I'm glad I pick out stylish pairs. My prescription is still changing (my eyes are getting much worse!) so I fear that soon I'll have to wear contacts and glasses at the same time. I hope not, but cataracts run in our family...I hope this doesn't mean bad news for me. We will see, though! Great discussion.

Very interesting! I'd love to go to Scotland someday. I've never been out of the U.S. other than Canada. Online shopping is a great too, isn't it?
I'm really glad your glasses are working out well for you. I found out the oddest thing this weekend. I was talking with some friends, and the issue of eye prescriptions came up. We were talking about dry eyes for contact lenses wearers, and one of my friends was having the same issue I have with dry eyes, thinking she wouldn't be able to wear contacts for very much longer. She told me that she found out, however, it's because she's been drinking a lot of coffee. Due to the caffeine, it constricts blood vessels and can cause the eyes to become really dry. I drink a lot of coffee, so that's probably my contact problem right there! The solution would probably be to slow it down a bit. I'm glad I know why it's gotten worse over the years, though. The best part is that it's preventable.

I wear them for same reasons; and same here, it's good enough as long as they look decent. I'm glad I don't have to wear them all the time; but if I do, I'd prefer glasses than contacts which seem too bothersome to maintain and to put them in/out.

Almost everyone of my friends has contacts. They all say it's not that much trouble. The only thing I'm worried about is that I have pretty dry eyes, I might not be able to wear them.
I think I look weird with glasses though. Suddenly I look so much more mature and smart. xD

Unfortunately I have to wear glasses too.
It's not that I care about them, I really don't mind, but it does annoy me to have to carry them around and not being able to read correctly until I put them on.
You've ever though of using contacts? I'd never do that, but I know others prefer them over the regular ones...

Not to mention having to put them on, I don't even like touching my eyes with my own fingers.
I only have trouble at long distances, although I'm quite young right now, so everything will probably get worse as I grow up.

I also wear glasses but not often. My right eye is the one that needs correction while my left eye sees clearly. My eye doctor told me that this causes my headaches before I wore glasses because my left eye compensates for what my right eye lacks in terms of vision. My problem with wearing glasses is that I forget where I placed them. Like now, I don't wear them because I cannot remember where I placed them before I left for my weekend trip last Sunday. I only hope that I find my glasses by tomorrow because I am feeling the onset of a migraine and I know that it's because I haven't been wearing my glasses.

I've worn many different styles of glasses since I first needed them about 20 years ago. I have to say that I adore the lightweight plastic (or whatever the newest lightweight material is) because my eyes get worse every year and glass lenses would be way too heavy across my nose. It's for that very reason that I've chosen rimless glasses; they're so lightweight that I barely feel them on my face.
I love the Progressive lenses and have had them for about 6 years now. I am both nearsighted and farsighted (yeah, I know that doesn't sound right but it's true). I first had two pairs of glasses and alternated between them, depending on what I was doing. (I was a professional proofreader for 20 years and did a LOT of reading.) After getting frustrated with them, I went to bifocals, the kind without the line. Still, I didn't like them. When Progressives came out, I was ecstatic! It doesn't matter where on the lenses I am looking through, my eyesight seems just like I was a kid again, perfect no matter what the distance.
So, I can't say I take pride in my glasses but I have put a lot of thought into them and done a lot of research in order to get the perfect glasses for me.
P.S. I got some Progressives with the Transitions lenses (they get darker in sunlight, go clear when inside) but found that Transitions lenses do not get darker when driving a car. You have to actually be in the sun for them to turn into sunglasses so I never wasted my money on them again.

Hi ajk111! I don't wear them but my daughter does and yes...we take great pride in them. She wants to wear them and feel good about herself at the same time so although I don't spend a ridiculous amount, we do get her designer brands and styles that she likes. It's just once every couple of years so I don't mind spending some extra money so she is happy with them. She really adores the last pair that we got and prefers them over contacts.

Hello, ajk111. I dont wear them, but I have alot of respect for those who do. I watched as my older brother would take time each morning cleaning them. I also remember him sitting on them and getting mom angry. He ended up getting contacts and told me that he will never go back to his glasses. I remember that he would get angry when anyone touched them. Boy he would spit fire.

You don't like anyone 'touching' them? Well, once in dark I stepped on my sister's specs! Some other time I carelessly put mine on bed, and my sleeping sister (other one) somehow got her feet deep-cut by the glass. No need to say what happened to the spectacles just before... Tough times, huh?

Personally, I am more of a contacts kind of guy. Luckily, when I do have to wear glasses (when I am in a rush), they compliment me well, but activities are much easier to complete/enjoy with contacts on instead. The only major difference between glasses and contacts (besides the totally different "installation") is that contacts generally seem to be a little worse prescription-wise. But that might just be me lying to myself about my bad eyesight whenever I am in my optometrist's office

I don't wear them, but I have been wondering if I should get my eyes checked. First I am a sufferer of migraines, all different types. And I get the ones with visual changes, and my eyes are very sensitive. Sometimes it feels like I have to strain. Although I don't have an issue reading. Have you always worn glasses or what made you decide to have your vision checked?

I have been wearing glasses a long time. My first pair was when I was 6 years old and sadly sat on that pair thankfully didn't get hurt were plastic. Now I have a pretty silver rim that is light weight. Sadly, have to wear glasses all the time just to see where I'm going and read large print books.

Yes, I do wear spectacles or glasses. I have to wear them to see things really good. I don't really feel comfortable having to put on contacts because I am afraid of hurting or damaging my eyeballs. I think my glasses are really good to look at and I am really comfortable when I have to put them on. I really like the newer designs of glasses that don't look like they have frames. They look really neat.

I too am quite selective. I have two pairs one for the pc and one for reading. The pc glasses are photo chromatic and also numbered differently as the distance you will notice is neither far nor short.
So you got your glasses all the way from America. Must have cost you a fortune.

good day ajk111,
with regard to your main question, i do always wear an eyeglasses. since my eyes really needs it especially if i am working in-front of a computer. and due to sunny weather here in our country, i also need to wear sunglasses to protect my eyes to be irritated due to too much heat coming from the hot and sunny weather. and with those spectacles that i wore, i am really grateful having them as they help and protect my eyes from irritation.

Hi ajk
Nah, I dont feel vulnerable at all. I do wear them - my eyesight is getting destroyed as I spend more hours on the computer than anywhere else
I have an ordinary pair, quite economical and local. I am happy that I have something to protect my vision and maybe repair it but as I am nearing 40, I am sure the more useful ones are soon to be used

i had to wear them as early as 3rd grade to correct my nearsightedness but i stopped after a few weeks because really find it disturbing during playtime. i noticed that through the years my eyesight got worse so when i got to college i was forced to wear them everyday to prevent further damage. i got used to it real quick but there are times that i feel held back because of my glasses. like i had to be conscious of my outfit and there are some that doesn't match with wearing an eyeglasses. and there where times that i also felt vulnerable because i might meet an accident on the road or somewhere and get hit by something in the face. the first thing that would break is my glasses. but in the end i need them on all the time so it doesn't really bother me what type or brand they are.
