I was sent a letter yesterday inviting me to become a mystery shopper and a big cheque and I am supposed to wire most of the money to other mystery shoppers and buy something and keep some for my work. It sounds like a unreal dream but I'm excited and I'll do it. I was just wondering if anyone on my lot knows anything about this whole Mystery Shopper deal? Is it worth getting into to make money or is there a catch like I'd have to pay a lot of money at some point. If I do, forget it because I can't afford it. Anyway, tell what your information on this subject might be, thanks, my lot friends!

Sounds like suspicious though. There are a lot of scam going on with those mystery shoppers job. They might not real, and you might end up with some trouble with it. My suggestion to you is, watch out, and read all the work requirement first, and then do some detail research on it. I hope what you work for is legit. Good luck!

That sounds like a bit of a scam to me to be honest. I'd imagine the catch comes when wiring the money. Have you tried to cash the cheque?

Mystery shoppers in general are not a scam, but how contact was initiated with the person who posted the thread, it definitely sounds like a scam, as insisted by following posters. It's awful that people run these scams. It's upsetting to see that real people fall for these fakers and end up out of pocket. Hopefully in this case another has not bitten the dust.

I don't think this is how I've heard mystery shopping work. It seems to me that most of the people I've heard talking about doing it do a mystery shop and then submit a report and then get paid. You shouldn't have to send money anywhere else.

SCAMM BIG TIME. There are real mystery shops out there but one does not get paid before the task is done in anything, so please don't do it. I've not talked to many people who have done Mystery Shops and none around here, but trust me when I say the best thing for you to do is research reputable companies in your area, take the check and shred and trash it and forget about it, because you are about to walk into the biggest scam of your life.

hi just to let you know the bogus scam ones are the ones who sent huge checks and ask you to deposit it then take out so much and send a wire to a relative. I got the same package and took the large check to my banker. He told me its a bogus deal. the ones that actually are legit do not send huge checks to a new person at all.I checked later on the net and this scam was taking over California , Nevada and Oregon and people were depositing the checks and being fined for bogus checks. If they tried to deposit them they would learn the checks were worthless. and if they had tried to draw money out they would crash. its a really nasty scam. so beware of it/

Hi, I got the same letter recently. I showed it to my boyfriend and I told him that I was going to do the research and find out if this was legit. When he looked at the information more closely, he recognized it as something that a family member of his got involved with. As it turned out, his family member had to pay back the entire check soon after it was cashed. What this company is trying to do, apparently, is launder money. This money was stolen and they're wanting you to wire a large amount of it oversees. The whole thing seemed too good to be true but it really did look like a real opportunity. Be very careful. I did a couple of Mystery Shops over the years and no legit company is going to pay a huge sum of money like what you're seeing. You may get something like $15 or $20 but not the hundereds or so that they are promising. Do your homework and check out some of the legit Mystery Shopping sites. By fitting these shops into your weekly routine, you can make a pretty decent second income. All the best.

ecaron do not deposit that check nor cash it as its bogus. I got caught in this bogus scam but I had the foresight to have the banker at my bank look at the check. If you cash it you will owe the bank that money, the too good to be true should have warned you its not true. Snopes it and you will see you ha ve been scammed. delete all of it or better yet take it to the postmaster general in your local post office. do not deposit the check instead give it to the post master general along with all the paperwork sent you.

I don't know about that company. I have signed up with a number of mystery shopping companies and most of them pay via paypal or they will send a check after the job is completed. I have never heard of a legitimate company that would send a large check and want it wired before seeing how you work. I would hope you didn't get scammed.

Some mystery shoppers are legitimate but not all. I'd check it out thoroughly. Make inquiries with your local police. Make sure that check is good before you spend so much as a penny. Is there a contract involved? In other words, go lightly. Be suspicious.

Scam, scam, scam! This has scam written all over it. Any time something tells you that they promise you a big check, be suspicious. Any time something tells you to wire money, DON'T. I don't know one situation in history where wiring money was what you had to do in order to begin working for someone. In fact, I've rarely heard of any situation involving wiring money that wasn't a scam or someone taking advantage of someone else. There are valid mystery shopper companies out there, but you cannot make a full-time salary doing this. Trust me, I know! I've been a mystery shopper for a few years now. The reason you can't is that normally each company has a limited number of businesses that they work with (for example, the mystery shopping company I work most for has shops you can do for HHGregg, an oil changing facility, sometimes a comic book shop, etc.). If you've done a mystery shop in one location, you cannot revisit that location for at least three months, and when the selection isn't too vast like I've just mentioned, it's not possible to make a ton of money at this. You also have to prove your work ethic before they'll trust you to do the more involved shops; most valid mystery shopper companies have shopper ratings that they'll give you after each shop. It's more involved than this scam wants you to believe! The only one making money in your situation will be the scammer. Don't send the money. On the other hand, if you're still interested in valid mystery shopping, I'd suggest intelli-shop.com, which is the site I've worked for for a few years, and I'd urge you to also look for QAMs on the internet (Quality Assessment Mystery Shopping is what that stands for, I believe). Good luck to you!

I was a mystery shopper for a while and I was recruited by a marketing research company. I applied to their job posting. Such companies do not send emails to unknown people. And I had a contract to do the mystery shopper job and a password to their online platform to see my missions and fill in the forms and so on. So it's a serious job. What you describe here seems a scam. Check it on the internet.
