The last discussion I've started is called "The pros and cons on buying a home vs renting." Please feel free to view and comment on that post. This post I'm focusing on the pros and cons of living in high rise condos. Not everybody wants a responsiblity of exterior maintenance such as cutting grass, gutter cleaning, etc. I been thinking about buying a high rise condo for quite some time because of this reason. My question to you mylotters is would you ever consider a highrise condo? Do you know anyone who lives in those types of places? How much do you think such a place would cost in your area? I do realize in larger metro cities there tends to be more of this type of living and some condos may have a maximum height of 5 stories while others as high as 82!.

hi mrsbone344,
i'm residing in a province and i know what you mean about the maintenance of everything outside of your house walls. it's very time consuming having a front yard, side yard, backyard but if you really take it seriously about maintaining it then you can enjoy looking at your beautiful garden which is very relaxing.
i'd probably invest in a condo for the reason that i can have it rented out while i'm still here in my hometown. we've lived in a condo when i was in kindergarten and the only con i recall is that i didn't get to see much children and had no other friends other than the neighbors beside our unit. obviously it's ideal to live in a condo if you're still single but once you start to have a family it's best to have your own lawn as a playground.

I could never imagine living in those high rise condos. I prefer to have my own house with a yard surrounded by plants, flowers and some fruit bearing trees.I love nature aside from the fact that plants helps in purifying the air we breathe.
Living in high rise condos for me have disadvantages, like in case of earthquakes, fires and other natural calamities not to mention man made. Yes, we may say that we may have lesser responsibility with regards to maintenance. If I may say too, most people who lives in condo wants a place nearer their work.

I have lived in flats and units, and the one thing I have learnt you have to be able to get on with all sorts of people, people making rules and committees, some of which you may not like. Also it worries me in the safety aspect, if someone stupidly starts a fire in their space it is going to affect you as well.
