I want to hook up my DVD/VHS player to my TV It is possible as it was done before. I moved, I marked every plug as to where it went on the TV and the DVD player. However..I changed TV's in the process and also got a cable box. I hooked the player back up the way the plugs were marked, but it doesn't work. I think partly cause of hte cable box. When the guy did it, I asked that he specifically re-connect everything properly so they boxes all works, he said he did, but only the "play" portion of the DVD player works... I can't record off the tv onto a VHS tape or DVD disk. And I use able to before.
The plugs I am talking about are the red/yellow/white push-in plugs.
However, now reading the manual and the labels on my plugs...I can't get it to record. Can anyone give me the "version for dummies" instruction on how to connect everything so I can record a tv show on to VHS/DVD? I know it has something to do with if media is coming OUT of the tv..the plugs go in the back and the plugs go into the front of the DVD player as the media is going IN to there. And to go from DVD player to view on TV, the plugs have to go back of DVD player to front of TV...but I dont' have plugs in the front on this tv...just two rows of them in the back.
So can anyone tel me how to set/plugin the DVD player to the TV that has a Cable box on it?
I sure would appreciate it!

We used to record tv shows on VHS. Based on what I remember even when we had bought a cable box, we were still able to record tv shows to VHS. I assume that your cable box uses the standard audio and video cables to connect to your TV. I am not sure how come the vhs won't record, probably he plugged in the cables incorrectly.
All you need to do is this. (For VHS recording)
I remember my dad doing this because before we had a cable box, our old cable provider uses a cable box that connects to the tv using a coaxial cable not the standard audio and video cables.
1. Locate the red, white, yellow cables of your cable box.
2. Then plug those cables properly tp your VHS player's ports for video recording, usually these are on the front of the vhs player. These are the same ports used when you're trying to record your camcorder's video on VHS tape. In short, these ports captures "incoming" data (sound and video) from input devices such as camcorders, cameras, cable box, etc.
3. Then at the back of your vhs player, you'll see its audio and video cable, you'll need to plug those cables to your TV.
4. Basically, you'll need to set your TV on video mode as if you're watching a tape from your vhs player. Then while the VHS player is running and displaying the video and sound coming from the cable box, all you have to do is press the record button after inserting a recordable vhs tape.
I am not really sure how you will set up your dvd recorder since we never had a dvd player that has recording function but I am quite confident that the process is similar.

One thing that might become an issue is that most cable is running digital now so unless your VHS/DVD is HDTV compatible it wont record anyway. I found soon as i got my digital recorder box when the Antenna TV changed over that I could no longer record digital.
The media never comes out of the TV. The media would come out of your cable box. If you connect the cable box to the Combo unit (VHS/DVD) input then the output of the combo to the TV you should be good to go. The Combo unit will probably have to be on either channel 4 or 3 as well as your television.
So to summarize assuming that your cable box has the RYW (Red/Yellow/White) plugs then you would take those from the cable box to the input of your combo unit. The output RYW from the Combo unit will plug into the input, probably AV input, of your TV set.
Hope that helps and that i dint make it more confusing lol.
