A Go Away Doormat

I do not know what happened to the owner of the apartment but I was surprised to see a doormat written "GO AWAY". It happened that I got in an elevator with someone who was going to 9th floor and when the elevator opened, the door of the apartment is directly facing the door of the elevator so you can simply see the mat while you are still in the elevator. I was kind of surprised since I thought most people go for door mats with words like "WELCOME" Do you think it is right to have such a door mat and would you enter in such a house or place such a mat in your door step?

That's funny!
They might get a lot of solicitors since that apartment is the first you see when exiting the elevator. Or people asking if they know where someone lives on that floor. I don't think it's appropriate, but that's just my opinion. I guess they have it there for a reason.

She is on 9th floor and our building is under tight security that no outsider can enter the building unless the guard calls the house first, so there is no way someone will leave the ground floor just to come and knock on her door because the first people you met are the guards both front and back side of the building. Most probably annoyed by us; those living in the building.

Yeah, probably annoyed or just unsocial.

I love it, that kind of things just make my day.
I once saw a "do not disturb" (sort of) sign for a door that instead of that said "Stay out or die"... man, I laughed so hard at that one.

Maybe it's a psychological thing.
You know, it tells you to go away so that you will feel the need to enter.

I would like to get such a doormat. Let's face it, not everyone who knocks on your door is a welcome guest, be it friends or family or the friendly Avon lady. There are times when we just want to be left alone and that doormat seems to say it all. It can also be possible that the owner of the apartment saw the doormat, found it cute and placed it in front of their doorstep. But I would love to find one and place one on my doorstep.

One thing that is making this doormat akward is that I live in a building where no one can enter unless the guards call you first to inform someone is coming. So no friends, family or sales lady can enter the building unless you give them permission. This doormat is specifically meant of us living in the building.

I have "GO AWAY" written all over my face. No, just kidding. I would never get a mat like that because I really do like to interact with people. I would definitly have a "WELCOME" mat at my door. It makes you really feel welcome. It also gives the place an inviting atmosphere.
I think that people have those because they are not very personable. They seem to be the type to be grumps, and make everyone feel uneasy. I know I would feel that way if I saw a mat like that. Have a great day. :)

Hi Mashnn,
Who's to say that the door mat was put there because the person has a sense of humour and not necessarily because they want to be left alone! I'm not sure that I'd take it literally. I have wondered where I can get one of them myself! I have no concerns that people who come to my door would take it at face value; some might, but the majority I would think not. I find those mats quite funny and from a personal point of view wouldn't be deterred from ringing someone's doorbell because of it.

What about if he or she mean it seriously and she does not want anyone going into her house. Don't you think you would be risking your life ringing her door and you know, she would probably be able to escape with whatever type of injuries she inflict on you with doormat as the evidence that she warned you of not going inside her house. I am abit scared with this doormat.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would be so serious about it that they'd put the mat there in order to keep people away, but, if that were the case (and I knew the person/people didn't want to be disturbed) then I'd respect that.
I'd run up to their door and ring the doorbell (just the once, mind) and then run away.
Ha ha, not really!! I'd respect their feelings and leave them to it.

Well, such offensive doormats depicts the temperaments of people who're dwelling there.

If I were getting alot of people coming to my door trying to sell me something then I would probably put a door mat out like that. I do not like alot of people comming to my house that I dont know. Now of course I would go into a persons house that had a doormat like that if I new them. I have seen signs on doors similar to the door mats.

I think that it is just humrous and that that is all there is to it. Nothing more or less to do with it. Though some do have such things on their doors to tell people they work third shift. Either way, they probably got it at a novelty shop somewhere and thought it was cute, nothing more or less.

How many have you seen such a doormat? If you can't find it else where, this may mean that the owner of the doormat has used it a joke. If it is not, to me, it is wierd and impolite to have such a doormat. Don't you think?

Reading this topic i am in dual situation... i am surprised and laughed. How a people can select such a doormat which makes the visitor thoughtful either to step in or not? Surely, i will enter and ask the question to the owner. Is it his fashion or a symbol of perverted mind? I need an answer for sure.
have a nice time Mashnn.

Well, I am still wondering what happened to him or her. My son cannot stop laughing after seeing this doormat even this morning while I was taking him to school, he pressed the lift just to see the doormat. I think I will enquire who lives in that house.

The existence of such a mat does really kind of amuse me on a certain level. Of course, I must wonder if it was a tongue in cheek thing, just to be different than the usual mat. Or if the person in question is honestly annoyed with people dropping by and bothering them, for absurd reasons. The mind does in fact boggle for a number of reasons to say the very least and I must wonder what the intentions might be.
Of course such of the thing is not going to make people included to go away. Far from it I would think. It would make people even more curious, more prone to entering the place, because that is not something that would detract attention. Rather it would draw attention and those who live to be obnoxious more likely to pester you. So unless it was a tongue in cheek thing, I do rather wonder about the intentions.

You are right, I am more curious now and I really want to know who lives in that house. Infact, I plan to ask my friend who lives in the same floor. I think it would also be another way of seeking attention but for now, I just have to keep off from going near that house. Luckily, I live on 12th floor and the owner is on 9th floor.

I see no problem with that door mat. The mat is obviously for the use of the owner who wants no visitors whatsoever. I for one would not attempt to enter invited or not. The person living there is a solitary soul and is entitled to be so. LEAVE THEM ALONE.

hi mashon oh that would be a real turn off for me as I would
feel whoever felt like that is not someone I would feel
'comfortable with.so I would hurry away from that place]really\
swiftly. lolI think its very cold and chilling and would keep people away as they would think you are some kind of a weirdo.I would never use one like that on my doorway.we have Garfield on ours'and it says welcome.

It's kind of funny for me. It's going to be a good laugh especially if owned by someone I know. I think people who owns this kind of mat doormat has a good sense of humor.

Hi Mashnn. What an interesting and funny doormat. I've never seen a doormat like that. Perhaps the owner owns two doormats? A 'welcome' and 'go away' doormats which he/she use alternately depending on the mood? Or if that is the only doormat he/she owns, perhaps he/she simply dislikes visitors.

This is quite interesting and such a funny doormat. This made my day! Lol.. I guess the owner don't want anyone to enter in his/her house. She/He wants to be alone and don't want to be disturbed. Happy mylotting!
