Arggh~~~! Stupid stupid stupid upgrade process~~~!

This is like the umpteen time I am trying to upgrade my 3Gs!
Every time you try to do an update, the iTunes will back up the phone before proceeding to contact the apple server to download the upgrade packages to perform the upgrade.
The problem is, the back up takes so LONG!
and if the connection to the apple server is broken for whatever reason, the upgrade process will stop!
And if you click on "Update" again to perform the upgrade, the whole process will start from square one! and the lengthy backup process will start again!
And mind you, one back up takes more than 3 hours to complete. And then when the connection breaks with the apple server, you are back to square one! AGAIN~!
Sheez~~~! I have tried for like... the past 2 days trying to upgrade my phone! And still not successful!
Sigh~~~!
Any fellow 3Gs users around? Did you upgrade your phone to iOS5? What was your experience like?

Yeah, i'm using 3Gs, but my update didn't take as long. It was completed under 1 hour without any problems at all 
Though i must agree that updates took quite long to be done, but so far all my updates went through smoothly 
I dunno what happened over at your side but why would the connection to apple server break in the fist place? UNless u are willing to wait for a few weeks, when their server is not as busy before trying again?
