I have noticed that different people have also different practices especially when i moved away from home. Back at our place we usually return the toilet seat up, im not quite sure why but maybe we just got used to it or possibly because we also have women living among us at our home like my mom and my sister.
I'm not quite sure if there is a standard, from where i'm staying currently we just leave it down maybe because we are all males. But i think its quite more hygenic leaving the toilet seat up sot that it won't get wet especially when other people are not good at aiming in the toilet which sometimes make me wonder if other people do really have a hard time using the toilet.
Sometimes i have also observed in malls that instead of using the toilet properly people would still wet the floor or the toilet seat. Although im not quite sure if it is being done intentionally or not.
What can you say about this?
Would it be better to have a standard practice on this?
Do you think the toilet should be put up or just left down?
Do you think other people wet the toilet seat and floor intentionally instead of using the toilet properly?
Thanks for sharing guys and happy mylotting.

Every family has its own rules about toilets depending on the members: males or females. Man usually wet the toilet seat and the floor while women do not. In my family I have the rule to keep always the seat and the cover down Especially after using the toilet. One reason and the most important is that the bacteria spread at about three meters away when the water from the toilet is spread around. Concerning the wetting of the seat and floor I think it's a sign of negligence.

Man seems that you are really fond of toilet issues.
But yeah I think it must be really a habit to put up the toilet seats because I believe that thing if for women and for those guys who will seat down just to do the miracle. It is part of hygienic purposes so that all the dirt will be covered as well by the time that others will use it. It pisses me off when the toilet seats are dirty and wet which indeed I can't see the point how it became like that where in public restrooms there were no bidit.

I always put the lid down on the toilet before flushing. Water splashes when the toilet is flushed and it could put germs on everything around including the toilet tissue and toothbrushes. All my family members know to close the lid, which means the seat also gets closed. If there is a lid to a toilet in a public washroom I will close it as well. I don't want to get splashed with that stuff!

I think there is no standard procedure on this. But just a respect to the one who will follow you to use the toilet you know what you should do. Here in my house the seat is always down since we are all girls here. When my ex is still here he used to put up and after he used he put it down for us girls. I know he has toilet manners.

I guess if one lives in a home with only males it would make sense just to leave it up, but if you live in a house with women it would be put down. As a woman I can tell you that there are few things worse then sitting down on a toilet where the seat is up. You can actually end up sticking your rear end in the toilet and that is not cool. You could also lose your balance and get hurt because you expect the seat to be there and when it isn't you could get off balance and fall or get hurt. I pulled my knee when someone left a toilet seat up once. Sometimes we don't look before we sit down and if the seat is not down it can be a really bad thing for us.

I think that this may depend on the situation and such, but personally I would think that it should stay down, or be put back down. For me, it just seems to make more sense, especially since we all will sit down on the toilet at one point or another. Granted, some have to do it more often than others, but we'll all still do it, either way.

the seat should be put down there are kids and women who use then even in a house full of men you dont want your mother or agirl friend coming over and seeing the inside its not the falling in issue but have you noticed no matter how often you clean there is always ugly stuff on the rim and inside

I don't see what the big deal is with the seat being up or down.
Honestly, I don't blindly sit on the toilet without looking. I grew up in a house with all girls except my dad and you always checked the seat, if nothing more than for the accidents the younger girls might have had. Chances of half falling into it are slim when you check first lol.
Girls always say boys should put the seat back down, but why shouldn't we leave the seat up for the boys seeing as we're the ones that don't want to sit on splashes?

It's like a rule to leave the toilet seat down so that women can use it without having to change anything about it. I just say that if everyone complains men and women should be treated equally then leave the seat where ever the hell you want. I mean, if men can lower it back down then women can the opposite, it's not that hard.

I agree that it takes half a second to check if the seat is up or down and to act accordingly. I've never fell into the toilet when it was up because it takes one finger to put it down. Last I checked people tend to walk into the bathroom with their eyes open so how do you not know it's up? It makes sense to leave it up for men so when we use it we won't make a mess on the seat for the ladies in the household.

I don't think there should really be a standard practice. It all depends on the situation and the people who are using them. If there's a problem of wetting the toilet seat among the users, then it should be put up. If there's no such problem, then it should be put down. Wetting the toilet seat or floor may really be unintentional. The only intentional thing I see in toilets is using a lot of toilet paper and put it everywhere and stuck toilet bowl.

Yeah, status-quo is leaving the seat down... but if everybody uses their brains... it will never be a problem.
I mean seriously - it does get annoying to always have to lift the seat up. In my opinion - as annoying as it would be to fall in the toilet - the toilet is only as dangerous as its user.
I'm just sayin' it goes both ways

Great question cyclopsz. I also don't know if it should be put up or down. But I usually put it up. I don't know that it many people prefer to left it down.
