I am not very clear about this. I remember I read a news from the internet that potato is very good for losing some weight. Of course, if you always eat fried chips, you have to put on some weight.
Do you always eat potatoes? How do you eat them?

Personally, it depends on how the potatoes have been cooked. I usually just boil them without the skins- that's the healthiest option. However every now and then I like to fry them with a little chorizo and some oil. It's a nice treat sometimes. Every Sunday I eat roast potatoes (just peeled potatoes covered in oil then grilled in a tray- it makes a delicious little skin to it). For me, it's what you cook the potatoes in that makes it healthy or not.

I eat the skins myself. very good. I like to put broccoli and cheese on a potato, for instance, or some meat.

I would say potatoes are probably better for GAINING weight than losing weight. Potatoes have a lot of carbohydrates/starch in them, moreso than other vegetables. I would say go with lettuce or broccoli if you are looking to lose weight. Plus, whenever we eat potatoes, they generally have a lot of toppings (sour cream, butter, etc) or they are fried, and all that oil and butter isn't good for you. I would avoid potatoes if I were looking to lose weight (even though they are DELICIOUS!)

What about if you just eat them boiled without anything added? Will the natural carbohydrates still make you put on weight?

I eat potatoes. Mostly I bake them or I cook them in the microwave. I then will put sauces, meat or gravy on them. I like butter and sour cream on them, or cheese, as well. Whether potato helps you lose weight or causes you to gain weight depends on how you serve it. I would use it much like rice or noodles. It is high in potassium and other minerals. Good source of energy.

In fact this is a very difficult question to answer. Since I read two comments about it. Some people think that the potato is a good food to lose the weight. Whereas the rest people have the opposite opinions. But I personally think that the potato shall be a food to put on more weights. Since it is full of starch and I think this is the material which can make you put on more weights.
I love China

I really depends on what you're doing with that potato, to how good it is for you. If you just boil it or bake a medium potato, and have it on it's own, it's only 160 calories (average guys should have about 1800-2200 per day), and it's 15% of the fiber you should be having in a day. Pretty good! If you add 2 tablespoons of sour cream, that's an extra 50 calories of mostly fat, add bacon bits, and it's another 50 calories. Add 1 tablespoon of butter, and that's another 100 calories!
But, the worst, is if you fry the potato. 1 medium potato, baked, is 160 calories... but the same size of potato, turned into deep-fried fries, is about 550 calories! That, will add weight onto you, and not give you that much nutrition.

I have tried the potato diet. It is effective if you just cook it by means of boiling and then eat it. Don't eat it fried because it will make you put on some weight. Potatoes don't taste that good, I ate sweet potatoes and it has the same effect. Don't take beverages instead drink plenty of water before eating and after to achieve your satiety level.

Potato is one of my favorite foods. Usually we cook it with pepper and vinegar. I think that it is rich in starch and it can be of some help in making those who are skinny gain some weight.

All this stuff depends on a lot more than the potato itself. For instance, fried foods aren't that detrimental to your waistline unless you're eating a lot of them. If you probably fry potatoes, they do not absorb the oil.
Potatoes are high in starch - carbohydrates. They're relatively calorie dense, but not as much as fatty foods.
Eating some chips every once in a while is not going to cause weight gain. As long as you're paying attention to the calories you're taking in and are not going crazy, it's fine.
As far as weight loss, potatoes could play a role in losing weight. If you're cutting back on fats and meats, a potato is a filling vegetable that can make you feel like you're eating a substantial meal without ingesting a ton of calories.

Potato contains carbohydrates and calories. Too much consumption of them contributes to gaining weight unless you eat them in moderation. The raw ones, when cooked or boiled, are much better than those available in commercial outlets such as those fast food restaurants.

Potato is composed of carbohydrate. So if you take it in plenty, it would definitely make you obese.

hi,
i think fresh potato can lessen your weight and good for the person who are in diet process, but when the potato soak in to the oil the potato will become fatty that is not good to our health and will make us more heavy weight and even become obese.
