My two nephews who are under my care and have treated just like my own kids are learning to wash their own clothes. The eldest is 15 and the youngest is 13. At first they have complained why do I have to let them wash their clothes when we have a helper to do it for them, besides, it's part of her work, doing laundry. I explained to them that not at all times that there are people around us who would do things for them. What about if we no longer have a helper or when they go abroad and no one will wash their clothes.....

Learning to do things by one's self especially important stuff such as this is a great tool and experience for the future. I'm sure they will thank you for this someday, and when they look back at this moment they will always remember your kindness to them.

Thanks chobel. It is also what I have told them. By the time they are grown up already and Im no longer around, at least, they have something to tell to their kids that if it were not of my nagging to wash their uniform, they wouldn't learn the skill. This maybe a burden for them at this time because they have just started to do it and the online game that they always want to do first is too hard to set aside because of the laundry they have to do.

You are right cher but when I have asked them to do their own laundry, they grumble a lot, don't like to do it until such time that they no longer have the choice but to wash their uniform or they can't go to school anymore because I have instructed the helpers not to include their uniform when they will do the laundry.

i appreciate what you are doing.children should have the chance to train themselves in many ways.just as you said if they go abroad ,no one else will wash their clothes.they must do it themselves.not only can they learn to take care of themselves but learn to take care of others as well.

good for you. its really important to teach children and teenagers how to be independant and to do things for themselves. i moved out of my family home at 16 so i had to get a job, do wll my own washing, cooking etc. its a useful lesson in life.

It is a good start to have them wash their own clothes. You can say they are one step closer to be able to take care of themselves. I wonder if they are boys or girls. Well, that doesn't really matter does it. Next you should teach them more necessary skills such as cooking, ironing clothes etc. This will help them in managing themselves in the future.
