Should we stop people who we see kicking their dogs or pets on the street? Or pulling/dragging them? I came across a man in a cafe the other day who was pulling his dog on the leash when all the dog wanted to do was relieve himself. I told him to stop, and he did, but continued to do the same after I walked in the other direction. What can we do to stop these people/should we do anything?

Welcome to mylot
Here one can find tons of street stray dogs on streets, they bite people, pee and poo there, the municipality don't do any thing, we are helpless.
Best of luck.
Happy posting, cheers.

Pulling the dog with a leash is not mistreatment of animal for me, the owner may not want his pet to pee/shi* everywhere or he may be in a hurry to leave that place but the pet refuse to go, so i won't try to stop him/her unless i am fully armed with weapon. Even if i see pet owner kicking their pet, it is hardly anything i can do to stop him, unless i am an officer from animal control department task by government to stop animal mistreatment, then i may be able to have him arrested for charges on animal cruelty; if not, Chances is i will be humiliated by the pet owner for being nosy or even get shot by him if he is piss off at me minding his personal business on his pet. Many time, even cop will not do anything to pet owner if you make a police report that he is mistreating his pet, cop will think you are silly and stupid to make such a claim, ask me to go to find something better to do than making police report for a pet.

I agree with you aujji that the owner should have let the dog relieve himself because it is the owner's responsibility to take care of their animal best they can as well as clean up after their dog. I would be fuming if I saw somebody kick their dog. Best advice is to get evidence either by taking a picture or video of the owner committing the horrendous acts upon the poor animal then taking it to the authorities.

We have to stop those who are abusive to animals. But others are just too sick to listen. I hate people who mistreat animals.
