I have an HP pavilion dv6 laptop and when it powers on I get a hard disk 1 error. I tried to take it out and put it back in and nothing. I know I can buy a new harddrive but how do i get it to work again after that?
Also I hate windows vista on my laptop is there anyway for a novice like me to clone my hp windows xp desktop drive to work in my laptop after I buy a new harddrive?
Thanks!

As said before, you can reformat the hard drive! And if you have a back up of your files from the laptop before, then when using a new hard drive, after having Windows XP, OR Windows 7 on it, you can have your files on your new desktop! Vista sucks, big time, the worse windows ever made, gave the biggest headaches for a lot of Windows fans. Windows XP is great for its functionality and professionalism. Pretty Reliable. Windows 7 is good all around since it has the functionality and professionalism of xp, with the appearance of Vista!

I tried to format drive and it came back with an error message that said it was unwriteable! Guess its off to buy a new hard drive!

reformatting your disk is the bert thing to do. You can still install win xp to your new hard drive but be sure to use this as a default if you are using 2 hard drives. Note, installing a new operating system needs reformatting of the disks else you want to use dual boot.
