I have a canon 500D dslr. However whenever I take night Photos, it always turns out blurred. And whenever I compare my pictures to those of my nephew, it seems mine just came out of a digital camera. It is not that colorful. How can i correct this?

Hi shadjee1, you can try to use tripod and slower the shutter speed. Besides that lens does matter too. Lens with larger aperture (F-number) allows more light of exposure. Besides that you can turn on the built-in flash, covered it with tracing paper to avoid excessive of exposure. You can even DIY diffuser to shoot, who knows you can get a beautiful night scene photo. Have a good try :)

Its in your setting or your hands. Try to use a tripod.

What you are getting is camera shake from being hand held. This has been corrected by Image Stabilization Technology in many cameras and lens. Try different settings to see if they change the results.

Dear friend, I feel those options in the camera could be rechecked, in what mode the photos are usually taken. I use automatic mode as even there are few others like potraite, landscape so. Moreover I feel if there is shaking of camera at times the photos would be blurred. I hope soon goods quality photos would comeout of your camera. If not hope the camera could be checked to find if there is any technical problems in it.

Either use a tripod, check your exposure meter, the film rating for night. It is really hard to get night photos as availability light is a vital factor that needs to be considered when taking photos.

Your photos are blurring because you're using a slow shutter speed. The easiest way to fix the problem would be to use a tripod when you take photos at night. Using a tripod will let you use longer shutter speeds without having to worry about blurring from camera shake. If you can't use a tripod, you could try increasing your camera's ISO sensitivity. Higher ISO makes your camera's sensor more sensitive to light. You will get more noise in your pictures with this method, but it might let you hold your camera without the image blurring. To get more intense color in your pictures, you will need to choose a slower shutter speed.
