One of my distant uncle is undergoing chemotherapy . He says that the doctors told him to take freshly cooked home made food . He avoids chillies and spicy food . His TLC counts are low so he says that he is very particular about cleaning the veggies and non-veg raw stuffs before cooking . He doesn't take strong beverages as well .

its kinda hard to tell what food your friend should avoid without knowing what kind of cancer he has. and there are still other things to consider, like allergy or if your friend can swallow food with ease after chemo session or if he is experiencing hyperacidity.
but definitely fruits and vegetables are good for him. just make sure that these foods are cooked well.

hi! it's always good to practice a healthier lifestyle (compared to what the patient is used to) or its alternative specially when faced with an ailment such as cancer.
i remember from health seminars i attended that red meat is a no-no, as well as oily/fatty foods. too much sugar is also a no-no and those with too much processing or preservatives. these types of foods is where cancer feeds on.
fruits and vegies are a big YES! the body needs lots of vitamin c for the most part. alkaline water or mineralized water is also good. mushroom soups would be nice to have. hydrate well and plenty of rest is highly recommended also.
i hope for your friend's speedy recovery.

One of my schoolfriends went through chemo. He could eat whatever he wanted but there were certain foods that would make him instantly sick, for no apparent reason. As I understand it, it's different for each person, unfortunately, so your friend will just have to find out the hard way what is and isn't possible. Good luck.

I don´t know if different chemos mean different effects. But when I was in chemo a few months ago, I had a big list of no-nos. All was reasonable. Chemotherapy not only destroys cancer cells, but also good tissue. The good cells that are mostly attacked by chemo are those that reproduct quicker such as skin and intestine linings.
I was told not to eat spices, cheese or yogurt, fried food or mushrooms of any kind. I could not eat raw veggies, except the ones I grow at home without pesticides. There were other things, but those are the most important.

I have a non Hogkins lymphoma. No cure but a slow grower. Still that has nothing to do with chemo. Diet is needed whatever chemo you have as it turns against the stomach linings also. I want to add that chemo has helped me a lot and I´m on remission now and the tumor has shrunk.

Hiya syoti,
I think highly processed Foods and too much sugar and others similar should be taken in small amounts also things like sugary cakes and too much white bread this is what my Mom´s Doctor told us to try and keep her off.
But it was so difficult you see and she did not know that she was ill with this so although I tried to control and buy the best Food for her the others of the Family then were giving her all the wrong food knowing full well it was very bad for her at that time.
If his Doctor has said that it must be that he finds your Friend much healthier and able to cope with normal Food well almost normal I suppose.
So glad he is getting better good luck.xxx

Firstly, let me say...I am sorry, and I am glad your friend has some-one like you looking into their welfare!
Far be it from me..to offer any medical advice! Reflecting on my friends whom have experienced both...each of their consumptive diets were different as to the foods they can eat or not, and for some odd reason it makes me think that it is cancer/treatment specific! Was this information from his Oncologist, if so, he is the specialist..but if it was his family Doctor, I would definitely pursue the knowledge of the oncologist!

Best wishes to your friend.
I would say that it might be good for your friend to keep a log or diary and write in it how he feels before and after eating various foods. That way he will be able to tell how they affect him at different stages of the chemo process.
I would strongly suggest that only organic foods be eaten at this point and water that is free of fluoridation as GMO foods and fluoride have been documented to cause cancer.
You may want to talk to a nutritionist about food... There could be some foods that will help him have more nutrients and less stomach distress.
Ask to see if turmeric or other natural substances that have shown some positive effects in fighting cancer can be used to strengthen and support his body's efforts to get rid of the cancer.
I am hoping that your friend does well with the chemo.

Not only will processed foods poison him as they will any person, but the whole Chemo process is a poisoning of the body as well. I am of the opinion that when people die from cancer these days, many actually die from the problems caused to their body by the chemo treatment. There are many different natural solutions that actually cure, strengthen and heal the body instead of harming it and weakening it more. Doing an internet search on natural cancer cures will come up with many incredible stories and solutions.

I have no clue about this. But if the doctor told him to eat what he wants then why not. I will say this though, maybe some foods will make him get an upset stomach. So stay away from dairy products, as these products can cause an upset stomach.
