This is an absolute RANT!! While EVERYONE in the World is trying to save Canada's favourite animal...the lovely, majestic POLAR Bear, RICH foreign buyer's have created a frenzied market for their PELTS! Yup! Bidders preying on the aboriginal's to kill under their guise of native rights...so a RICH foreigner will grace their pockets with $12,000.00! (the native's) and that's illegal!!
THEY did it for Ivory! Only the rich can pay for a kill of the Grizzly Bear..or the spiritual Kamodie Bear(sp)!
With all your dang money...buy a full set of morals, and some land to preserve these almost extinct children of Mother Nature!
The bidding wars now include Arctic Fox, wolverine...just so the rich can trim their coats! A reference;www.macleans.ca/we'reshootingpolarbears or publication of 2/20/2012.
MONEY kills the morals of the poor..they will kill illegally for it, and the rich pay them to do it! Punish them..but not financially! Your thoughts, please!

What thoughts would you expect from me perga..You know I am an animal lover. When I value my Preiti who was a stray and I have stopped socialising just so that I don't leave her alone I cannot find words to express how vehemently I detest the greed for the so called status symbols.

My dear, you have a way of putting things so succinctly..and in perspective! Not a lot, can ruffle my feathers (or fur, in this case)..but I am so abhored the rich probably got that way exploiting the poor...and they continue to do so having them perform more acts of illegality! I really am ashamed of Canada, for playing host to these ingrates!

Even do money can buy the most expensive materials in this world. There is still something that money can't buy.
But your question was the morality if not mistaken. Well, there are people who is selling their morality...those are called ladies that even their soul they sell because of money. These people are greedy and nothing love of God and humanity...they only love their self...

My thoughts.
Well, I think that rich people, there should be open season on them. After they've had people shooting at them, then they might have second thoughts. The reward? People shooting them should get a portion of their estate. Just saying. . .

We had a judge in NY State who had before a rich man. The man said his tenament housing was quite livable. Unbeknownst to the rich man, the Judge, he was in front of, had grown up in a tenament house. So the Judge said, "Since it's quite liveable, you won't mind living there yourself for a month." Left the rich man stuttering. The Judge assigned a cop 24-7 to make sure that when the man wasn't working his usual hours, he was living at the tenament. Then at the end of the month, he had to come back. The rich man said, "I guess it could use some fixing." The Judge said,"I suppenoed all your tenament records. In 10 years, you fixed nothing. I own a house, just a house, and I have to fix something every year." The rich man complained that he couldn't afford that, to which the Judge replied,"You made millions off the poor and have given nothing back to your tenaments. I expect 50% to go back into each place."
More judges like that and the world would be a much better place.

Are we now short of opportunities to focus on to? Or, are these people blind of other opportunities to venture to? Why are they doing things that way? Why are they doing business that way? Look. If they only look around, they will see countless of other opportunities they can seize upon without causing harm to Mother Earth. These people are narrow-minded and are very selfish. They think only of themselves!

Truly appreciate your response! I think it's time for the world to unite and make them our target for practice shooting (like writersedge says here) and they might get a sense then of their cruelty. The rich, have ravaged and pillaged the entire world, wiping out beautiful creatures of Mother Earth! How do we STOP them?

Dear Pergammano
Quite a thought provoking discussion
Unfortunately money brings many things with it. And Too Much of it really starts playing on their head at times... I think the rich have enough to provide them so many comforts, luxuries and when you get all those... there comes a stage when there is nothing much left to be done by these as persons (they have people to do their work). This leads to an empty mind, with plenty of time to spare... the right place for the Devil to work...
I think it is this devil in these "stinking" rich people which makes them do such things. Otherwise I see no reason they have pets on one hand show them some love and care and on the other hand, they are into such things... Heartless and Mindless... makes them much unfit to be called, referenced and categorized as humans.
Those who do the actual killing - as you mention - they are exploited as they are poor, mostly non-educated and in need of money...

I am just so wrankled over this entire situation..and I know this is not new, it happened to India's beautiful creatures..the Ivories, the furs...and these poor, be it your country or mine...DID NOT even know they needed money??? We created the need for money...then exploit them!
The Arctic aboriginals did not know they needed ski-doos..or man-made clothing and foods...'til we educated them (or what we call education!) I am just brushing the tip of the ice-berg here, and I know I am all over the map...but this is insult to injury...when it's my country...SHAME on you..CANADA!

Thanks, I needed an understanding soul!
I have failed in relating all the facts...for the latest fur trader's sale, there were over 6000 persons repesenting buyers for 84 pelts (Polar Bear hides)! THE very MAXIMUM...wildlife conservations suggested, in order to keep the species viable...was 32! They are nearing extinction due to mankind...and environment! The environment (Polar bears, because of their habitat are really a barometer for measuring Global warming) is becoming inhabitable...the species are weak, and underweight...as we have also fished out their food supply! SOON, they will just be a lovely memory!
And another disgusting aside...The EU just voted to bail GREECE out of it's financial disaster...Guess what...The Greeks outnumbered even the Asians at this last auction! Shouldn't they be bailing out their own country?
I know..time to put this all to rest, and thanks, dearheart for allowing me to rant!

Oh dear... Have a warm hug from me
Now take a deep breath and think - the world is better and there are only a handful lot who are the Bad ones. As long as these smaller quantities exist, World remains better as there is more good than bad. If it would have been the other way... you know the good ones would have been hunted down too and then after all this it would have been only a bad world - everyone killing, everyone doing illegal and there would have been no law or word called morality, ethics.
Personally, blaming an entire community or a country for the deeds or rather misdeeds of a small bunch is being too harsh and I understand right now, my dear is feeling too much depressed and sad. Wish somehow I could pep her back and get things better for her.

ah, rich idiots, what can I say...
I have heard and I have seen many stupid things that rich people do and I don`t think I will ever understand them, even if I became rich one day.
I can understand if they want something rare, or if they want to try something new out, but this is too much...
Wasting money on stupid and unnecessary things is one thing, but making animals suffer is something else and much worse... :(

Good comments! There are many that suffer, in this horrible exchange; the beautiful majestic bear, ripped from his family...the aboriginal whom is risking prosecution, and a very altered lifestyle with his new affluence...and the rest of us Canadians, whom are hanging our heads in shame, over this atrocity...and the fact were are the only country nationwide involved in this carnage!

their pelts til now. this is so truly awful and the waay they 'are doing it with using the natives makes it even worse. The corrupt rich corrupting the natives who were before not killing anything except for food. This is truly tragetic.

YOU are just plain right...enjoy them as is!
I truly DO know about morals..and the basis for them...but I sure wished I could wave a magic wand, that would infuse them with some so they would stop destruction with their wealth! The Polar Bear is just the latest in the legacy of beautiful animals reaching their demise, because of greed. The rich create Black Markets! I'm sorry...GG, I really get worked up about this!

I feel sick by this. It saddens me that the poor would toss aside their morals and convictions for a price but I get it...don't agree or approve of it but I get it. It sucks trying to struggle to put food on the table for your family and keep a roof over their heads. I absolutely detest the ones that are luring them in and paying them. Why in the world do these people use these pelts for anyway? I agree that the ones that kill should be punished but I'm sure they are preying on the most desperate to do their dirty work. I would rather see these Pelt Lords brought down. They are the real problem. This is sickening. I need to think about it and come back to this discussion.

I think I need to hire you to write my discussions here..you have made my point, with decorum!
Not only is worldwide species of absolutely phenomenal creatures becoming unsustainable..just so the rich can own a piece of them...BUT the "way of life" is destroyed in it's wake! The aborignals of the Arctic, India, Africa, etc., are having their true environment destroyed by money! Let alone their morals! Yes, left alone to their own way of life, these animals were slaughtered...but only for the basics of life..food and clothing! AND left alone, they harvested wisely, and sustainably! They had LIFE value..not $$$ value!
Truly appreciate your input, sid556 and validating my thoughts!

Money certainly does have the potential of buying, burying, and burning at the stakes every moral that has been thought of or proclaimed from the beginning of time. Only the strong retains. The extremely strong. The thing that burns me the most is when the ones that have are still tainted by its effects. To line their coats at the cost of mother nature's gifts versus feed the poor..well..it quite frankly makes me want to throw up.

For the want of adornment, the need to own..especially that which is precious, or precarious..they stop at nothing! Not only have they wiped out the supply Ivory, the beautiful jaguars for pelts, the precious white tiger..now the need for obtainment is destroying the Polar Bear, and putting a high demand of other creatures of the Arctic. The life-style of the aborigines is destroyed! Until the rich created a demand..there was never an unsustainable harvest, they harvested only for the basic needs, food and clothing!
Put an unsustainable label on it..or facing extinction and it becomes a fore-runner of the Black Market! Sorry, Jen, I really am stoked on this one..and so ashamed of my Country!

Hi pergammano,
Money is a sort of a negative energy. People who are blessed with lots of it must learn to control their impulse otherwise it will take charge and lure them to take the wrong path in life thus doing things out of the ordinary like killing innocent animals comes into the picture.
Being superior to other living beings, humans should be more compassionate, considerate, kind and loving towards other less fortunate living things and not taking advantage of it. Animal hunters should be severely punished and the government should impose stricter laws when it comes to hunting. When the buying stops the killing will too.You are absolutely right, why can't such people use their precious money to buy themselves a full set of morals!

@julianmac! Money has created an entirely new environment for the aboriginal people's! I am not against the hunting that they performed, before we interfered...as it was done to support and sustain their lives, and that of their families. Very few parts of the harvested animal, were not put to use...even if it was just to feed their dog sled team! Money interfered, and they were convinced they needed modern implements...for that they needed money...and the vultures of the rich are right there...dollars flashing to get them to committ illegal acts...for money to buy the things they have never needed! Thanks for your quality exchange!

It is so really sad that there are things that money is being used in a wrong way. Even in justice system everything can be paid. But good thing about it when a person die he/she can't bring the money and pay somebody so that he can enter the heaven. The judgement is about the human being.

Yes, I agree this is deplorable what these people are doing. Too many animals in the world are becoming extinct or close to it. Soon there will be no rain forests and that will impact everyone since that is where a lot of the world's food and medicine is derived from. People should take better care of the earth because soon it will be extinct, will be no more. I love animals and it saddens me to hear of animals being killed for profit, these people should be proscueted to the full extent of the law, for sure. thanks for the info, my lot friend!

Personally this is Sick, and these type of people need to wake up and take more respect for these type of animals especially some of them that are becoming more and more extinct. But we see it all the time here in WA state with the indian tribes being allowed to kill and hunt animals that everyone else would get in trouble for. Even if they are becoming endangered. Makes you wonder if and when this can ever be stopped.

to do their dirty work for themm.Who on earth would want to kill
a polar bear for its pelt.they are os lovely to look at and hurt no one so why this? The rich can buy the finest of cloth coats why take
the pelts of helpless animals? this is gross, greedy selfish and downright wrong.Killing innocent animals for their stupid coats
is horribly wrong and upsets the balance of nature. god gave us dominion over lower animals but not to destroy them.I would never
wear a fur coat even if I were wealthy and could afford one.Like people who tear u p natural flowers in the woods for a bouquet I leave the flowers to gladden others eyes and all the animals to rac our forests and wooded lands.dominion meant care not kill.

First, MsH...sincere apologies, I did NOT get notice of your response..I am having a lot of issues with myLot...and spend so much time, just trying to post responses, and poof, they disappear, and many, many days NOT able to access the site...AT ALL!
When it comes to Nature, I have this philosophy; "Take NOTHING but pictures...LEAVE nothing but footprints!"
Money has created such a "ME"...."I WANT"..."I NEED" society--at the disregard of all else! The path of destruction they leave behind, they don't care if anyone else should/could enjoy if they weren't so selfish!
What's so oppressing here, is the last "underground" black market sale of these hides in Ontario...the biggest percentage of buyer's...were GREEKS! The last I saw, the European Union (EU) had just voted to take on Greece's huge debt..and help straighten their economy around! Seems to me, the RICH GREEKS should keep their money at home...take care of their own demise...and NOT contribute to the demise of Mother Nature's Children around the world! What do they need a Polar Bear hide for??? And at the expense of the world's endangered!
I know this has happened all over the world, to God's most beautiful creatures...but can't we stop in...somehow? Frustrated, you betcha!

Hiya perga,
Terrible situation but not a new one I suppose. I think its terrible what they are doing and as for Fur Coats I would never wear one not even an artificial one as I don´t like them I prefer to see them where they first belonged on the Animal itself.
This happens here too you know there is Hunting that goes on every Weekend and the rich pay for it and the poorest work for them.
They kill a variety of Animals but mostly like the Polar Bears that are in danger great danger.
Of course there are no Polar Bears here but they kill Animals that are on the high danger list and although its illegal it still goes on for the rich as you say and the very poorest working for a few meagre pennies as usual.

No...NO..lovinangel...THIS is NOT new! BUT will we ever learn??? The world over, many, many beautiful...unbelievable incredible animals are nearing extinction...at the brink of extinction! These beautiful species have NO voice...just victims of the rich and selfish. What does a Greek need a Polar Bear Rug for....a Canadian need an Ivory bracelet for?
(If I had money) I would be sooooooo demoralized, using my wealth to squander the rights of natives to met my desires. I truly get heartsick over the devastation humans create...not caring about the beautiful balance Mother Nature creates!
I don't rant often...but sometimes it just boils over...and I thank you for your support!

Hiya pergamano,
Alas we all know that it is not new.
It was forbidden to bring certain Species of Parrots to this Country as they were putting them into Suitcases rolled up in Cardboard Rolls and in the dark of the Suitcase with almost no ventilation.
Yet they still bring them because now each Parrot can be worth up to one thousand euros or more a time so that is the sole reason and no other for them smuggling them in.
That is just one of them as you know.
One Guy here kept a Lion on the Fifth Floor and used to take it up and down in the Lift of a Night time so no one would see him.
How cruel to the Animal Lions and Tigers are favourites here as Pets believe it or not and they castrate them so they won´t cause so much problems like making lots of noise.
We could go on and on Animals belong in the Wild while it is true that certain Parks can help save them until they can go back to the Wild again. There are a few of those here too dedicated to getting these Animals rescued and saved from silly People that think they can keep a Lion or a Tiger or even a Bear has been known and especially badly treated are Monkeys that are caged up for years with no sunlight with all the blessed sunlight we have here and they lock them up in dark Rooms can you understand it I can´t and I don´t try to very often these People need to be fined and Jailed and learn for once and for all that not everything belongs to them just because they want it to be so.xxx

OY! (Oh where is the emoticon smacking itself on the forehead?!)!
Why on Earth does anyone want to wear fur . . . we are not living in the cavemen era for goodness sake. This is unnecessary killing of animals - all over GREED.
I saw a documentary years ago - not about killing animals, but about cutting down the trees in the rainforest in much the same manner. The "natives" who were chopping and burning for the money said they needed to for the sake of their families . . . they had to live in the present - and couldn't be concerned for those in the future (simply because by then, they themselves wouldn't be around . . . so in their eyes, they didn't feel the need to care). Very sad way of thinking . . . sadly money seems to talk. Yes, money kills the morals of the poor.
I had a sick thought as a punishment, but I won't spell it out as it might offend. Something to do with "human coats" . . . see how THEY like it!!

Hey, precious...thanks for the input and taking time out of your harried schedule--means a lot!!!
As I said in my response to JenInTn, I am very busy, chasing causes...too many irons in the fire! But just so you know..."The Rain Forest" is NOT one that has flown under my radar...I belong to another site, where I don't earn money.. I earn "butterfly rewards", and after so many kazillion rewards...I can buy property, and I am the proud, deeded owner of 1/3 of an acre of the rain forest! And working hard towards owning more!
If we stop and think about it...before BIG money had to have things like; Ivory and pelts (et al) there was harmony! Sure, gorgeous creatures were killed, by aboriginals...BUT for food, clothing..and shelter! They were killed sustainably..and oft times even managed harmoniously, as they knew they were reliant on them for their own existence! BIG money walks in..puts a bigger value on the commodity...and lives are destroyed ....forever!
Hoping you are having some success in your quest, dearheart! SO very nice to hear from you! Take care...HUGZ to your children!
