hi guys..i know a few of you here are selling online, buys goods online, or perhaps has something to say about online shops..
my sister wants to try selling online. she's gonna be selling different types of goods. and she wants me to help her. so i need you guys to give me idea.
mylotters, what must be put in mind when making terms and conditions for this online shop? is it reasonable enough to charge the buyers with fees like storage fee for unclaimed raw food, additional charge for buyers who like to pay with their credit cards via paypal, and additional charge if buyers request to meet up in other public places that is convenient to them?
and is it ok to give them a copy of my sister's personal ID when they purchase something to her? i suggested it to m sister because i want the buyers to feel that the transaction isn't a scam. and i want to establish a mutual trust between buyers and sellers.
and lastly, is it ok to ask for 50% downpayment just to make sure that it is final?i found so many incidents of bogus buyers and joy reservers on the net. and i want to protect my sister from that also..
give me your feedback please..i really don't know much on this since i'm not fond of buying online because i'm afraid of scams..

Yes when you are trying to sell something online it is difficult to establish trust at first. but you can take help from other companies to host your products , as they would definitely take care of them , providing various security measures. Then you can market them and sell them.

I was a seller of branded bags online before. I used SULIT, MULTIPLY, and EBAY. At first it is hard for us to establish trust between buyer and seller. But once you have buyers, everything will fall into place. Asking for downpayment or IDs depends on the stuff you are selling. I usually do meetups and shipping only. But of course I only ship my bags after I receive their deposit. I only accept cash payment. What I did is they deposit the money with the shipping fee., check online, ship and send her a message of the shipping code. I also ask them to leave feedback score if possible. For meetups, I only declare certain points of meetups like malls. I usually suggest halfway locations. Most of the time, sellers asks for downpayment if they are selling gadgets or food. And if I am buying online, I check the number of people buying from them, their feedback score and everything.

If I am to buy online, I would like to be 50/50 with me and the seller. I would not pay in full and then just wait for the shipment. That is scary. So yes, 50% downpayment is good and then the rest will just be paid when the product is already sent for delivery.
But you know what, it is really scary to put your credit card information in the net so I would prefer paypal payment and bank deposits. Since your sister is starting, maybe you could try meet ups first. It is less risky because you will exchange your products and money at the same time. Then when your sister have several buyers already, you can set up for shipment service..
