outbreak manila 2012 - fun run away from zombies

I was looking through the internet for some upcoming fun run when I found out about "Outbreak Manila 2012". This fun run is a 5K run but aside from the fact that you're racing for time, you're also be running from zombies. Well, they won't eat you anyway :P At the start of the run, each participants will be given 3 flags which they call as "health/life flags". There are areas in the run wherein zombies will come out and chase after you. They will try to get your flag and you'll try to, of course, escape them. A person can be declared as "winner" when the runner finishes the race with at least one flag. If all flags are taken, the runner can still finish the race to get his record time. Seems fun :D

That sounds a lot of fun!!!! Will the zombies really dress as zombies? They should so that runners will be more "inspired" to run for their lives/flags. When will that fun run will be? I have never participated in any fun run before because I doubt my capability in running such a long distance but this fun run sound so much fun. It will be more fun with friends! I can already imagine me and my friends running for our lives. LOL

Oooh! I wanna participate on the last one! I run fast and I'll definitely be able to run faster if that's the goal. I posted the invite from the FB account of Outbreak Manila and my friend had a good laugh over the instructions. There were instructions like don't bring any shurikens, molotovs, plastic swords, etc.

That's just so true! There's also one that said something not to bring plants or something of that sort :P

Maybe they'll come with tattered shirts and make-ups. Who know? :P But they should work on the make-up for a more "realistic" feeling. Imagine zombies running after you around 5AM :P I heard somewhere that there's also a "zombie run" with same mechanics and everything. Difference is that you are grouped by fives. I'm not too sure if this is the same as "Outbreak Manila" though :P OR.... They can let a group of real hunky, good-looking guys run ahead and after 30mins, runners can run after them. If you're able to get one, you'll go out on a date.

I have never joined a fun run before, although I remember we had a fun walk for P.E. class in my first year in college and even in that one I didn't really participated in all the walking. I just went straight to the final meeting place, which was a beach resort kilometers away from the starting point. Anyway, this fun run you have just mentioned sounds creatively fun. I think this will start a new theme in coming fun runs.

Running in costume, now that would be a good idea. Anyway, I hope you proceed with your plan and have fun.

I'm still thinking if I'll join or not :P Most of my friends passed because the fee is a bit high. I think it's PhP700

I was able to join the MILO Fun Run before then stopped. Until now I wasn't able to join any fun runs yet :( My friends and I are planning to join the "Alay Lakad" this April (I think it's in April) though. They also allow the runners to come in costumes (as long as they can run in it). I'd love to see people's (those who are unaware of the run) reaction when they meet a zombie while walking.

it really is fun especially if you do this activity with your friends and family. This is not only good for your health but also it tightens relationship bonds. i you have big groups, you can make your own OUTBREAK MANILA. you dont have to pay fee plus you can give a special award for those who play their part very well. :)

That's true but you would also need recommendation from the government for the route to take :D But having your own "Outbreak Manila" would be fun! I hope this run would take place during Halloween :D

This is a new twist to fun runs. They incorporated a slight element of "fear" to make you run faster. Is this the first of its kind here or is it patterned from other fun runs elsewhere? In any case, it's something new and I think the participants would really have fun here.

I think this type of run started in 2008 but I think it's patterned after some "zombie runs" in US :) I'm really not too sure. Lol! I'm imagining some runners carrying plants to protect themselves. Pea Shooters and such. Lolz!

Nah, if I were them, I'd bring ice-shrooms to immobilize them for a while and give me time to cross the finish line

That does sound like a lot of fun. I think that the addition of the zombies adds not only some fun and exitement but also extra motivation, which some people need, to be able to have enough energy to finish the race in good time. It is definitely a good way for all the participants, even the zombies, to combine healthy exercise with fun.

Nowadays, you hear a bunch of people saying "people need to get healthier", but many do not give any good suggestions about how to accomplish this task. Of course, they might say to exercise, but there are people that think exercising is boring. This group is actually doing something to help people get healthier in a fun and different way. I think that if more organizations started holding different events like this ... not exactly like this, of course, but a variety of things to interest different people ... then it would go a long way towards helping more people to get fit and healthier.

I do agree on your point 110%! I know the feeling of being eager in doing something but ended up stopping because it gets boring :(

I want to join such events but the problem for me is that the starting time is at 430am and I cannot get there in time because the public transportation here in my place starts around that time too. I know that such events are fun because my friend has joined such an event.

That's true. The last time I joined the MILO Run, the first wave starts at 5:30am but due to the closed roads and tons of people joining the run, I arrived late. I think I started running around 6am. I joined the 3rd wave :P Is it just me or marathon and fun runs are starting to look more like "Plants vs Zombies" because of the "Waves"... Kidding! :P

I'm sure this run will grab a lot of attention though the first "Outbreak" was dated way back 2008 :P

This sounds exciting huh. But, this is not possible with the fun run that we (our group) always join. like what we did last January, running with 300,000 participants. Actually, it's not a fun run anymore...it becomes walkathon But this "zombie" concept is fun...so,it justify the name..."fun run"

I know what you mean with Fun "Run" turned Fun "Walk". The same thing happened the last 10.10.10 Run for Pasig event (though I didn't run. Lolz!) If there are THAT many participants in the Outbreak Manila 2012, they would need quite a lot of zombies. Lolz!

Wow!! That sounds really fun. If they have such event in here I would love to participate.(^^) Fun run in my life?? When I need to chased my nephews and niece when we play together~ They will scream away when I am chasing them..Sounds like I am a good candidate to be one of the zombie, huh??(^^) If its about long distance run then of course my school marathon event... It will make me super tired but it was so much fun!!(^^0)

I can't keep up with my nieces' and nephews' energy! It's either they're REALLY energetic or I'm getting old... Lolz! I think I prefer to consider the first one. Lolz!

Om my! that is sure fun!! I am googling it right now, and see details. I'm planning to participate. I like to join marathons, the last one I has was in Milo run. I also joined Run for PAsig. But lately, I've been losing the interest, (that's why I am a bit chubbier right now, haha! ). But this seems interesting. I will also invite my friends to join. :)

I also joined the MILO Run and that's the first (and currently, the last) fun run I've attended :P When did you join "Run for Pasig"? Is it the "10.10.10" one? I was able to participate in the "10.10.10" event but as part of the sponsors. Lolz! It really is interesting especially the thought of having zombies appearing somewhere and chasing after you. Lolz! With all that running, I wonder if the runner can run faster than he/she would usually do.

Wow.. This is so interesting. This must be a lot of fun. It is great that they make a twist on their fun run. I've never tried to join in any fun run before. I just run on my own. LOL. I am from Davao so I cannot join in this event. I'm sure the participants will really have a great time! Nice concept!

I agree with you. They should really make fun runs "FUN" :D It really is a great concept. The running that I do now is when I'm late for work But honestly, if there's enough time (and energy in me), I'd jog around Luneta since I work near the area :D
