Since I am on a roll with my reading discussions, I thought - hey, why not start one more? . I was just organizing some of my paperwork from senior and junior year in high school (yes, I saved some of my bigger English assignments, so I could get nostalgic and read through everything 4 years later ha ha). Here are some of the ones I wrote papers about that I read in high school:
Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe
the Sorrow of War - Bao Ninh
Untouchable - Mulk Raj Anand
Shakespeare's Hamlet
House of Spirits - (can't remember author name, wasn't listed)
Siddhartha - Hermann Hesse
Oedipus - Sophocles
Nectar and a Sieve - ?
The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien
I know there were more, but that was all I had in my folder. We read a lot of "world literature" as they called it during my senior year. Probably my favorite was "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien which was pretty much a war book about the Vietnam war. Things Fall Apart was another one of my favorites about English colonization in Africa, with a sad ending. I liked most all of the books that we read, but I realize now that we didn't read all that many "American classics" - we never read Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer or How to Kill a Mocking Bird. So I guess my education was a little more 'modern'. But I feel in a way I missed out too.
Have you read any of the books that I read in high school? If so what did you think?
And what kinds of books did you read in high school (or even college), if you remember that is?
Did you mainly read 'classics' or kind of a new-age variety of books like ours?

I remember some of the books I read in high school. Sometimes I even go back and i reread them so I can understand them a little more since I am older. I didnt read Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer either we read The Crucible, Read Badge of Courage, Night, Outsiders etc. I loved those books and would love to re read them. I read THings Fall Apart in college and it has become one of my favorite novels.

Wow the books that you read in your school days are incomparable with the books that I read When I was in my school days I used to read teen fiction stories like
Fear Street by RL Stine
Christopher Pike mysteries
Sweet Valley Twins & University by Francine Pascal
Apple Paperback books
Archie comics
Sweet Dreams
The books that you mentioned are really tough! The books that I mentioned are just shallow stories but they are definitely fun to read!

I do remember some books that I had to read in high school, but I don't remember all of them. I only remember a few. The one that I can easily remember reading was The Diary of Anne Frank. It wasn't the only one that I read, but it's the one I remember the most.
