YouTube VS. Reading

I am noticing what to me seems to be a disturbing trend. People today when they are searching for factual information seem to increasingly be turning to YouTube in stede of taking the time to search out and read text. Do you think YouTube is a good place to find answers or would you rather look for and read information from a more reliable source?

Personally, I'd much rather just read about the subject. As much as it is easier to just watch something on youtube, it's certainly not the same thing as reading from a reliable source. I find that you get a lot more from reading.

I mostly use YouTube to watch music videos but occasionally I'll use it to find tutorials for things, like crochet stitches because it's easier for me to see someone do it than to look at pictures in a book. But at the same time it's hard to find someone who films their tutorials from the correct angle. A lot of them set up their camera in front of them which means the tutorial is backward.

I think YouTube has its place as do other websites. However if I am looking for information than I still prefer to read it(even though I don't like to read!). There is so much information available on the net that it is hard to know if you have found something reliable but then again there is so much information available that it is easy to double check everything against other sources. Of course with written books it takes much longer. Perhaps a compromise: look up a an original text on the internet. That's what I do when I was looking for something. I needed original translations so I found a couple to compare. As for YouTube I can't say I am a big fan anyway. It can be quite hard to find what you're looking for.
