Are people of African descent more accepted in our country now?

I know we Filipinos are always sensitive to racism but growing up, I notice that I rarely saw Filipinos with crushes on Black celebrities, Most foreign celebrities Filipinos have crush with are usually East Asians, Caucasians and Latinos.
I think most teenagers in our country have a craze for East Asians at this moment. though during 90's there is an obsession with Caucasians but the hot commodity now when it comes to foreign talents are east Asians.
Growing up I remember Filipino actors of African American descent are always put in comedic roles. They were always subjects of jokes.
Biracial actors and actresses are in demand in our country, But most of them are Eurasians and Mixed Asians. Only few of them are of black descent and those people are portrayed as unattractive. I mean Jinky Oda and Wilma Doesnt are actually attractive women but in their movie and Tv roles, they were always portrayed like men are disgusted to them because they have dark skin.
Black Athletes and singers did get famous in our country but they were only liked for their talents, Philippine media rarely portrayed them as sex-symbols.
I did see some developments now, I had seen men saying they have crush on beyonce and Rihanna but still we have those soap operas about a someone who is half African American who is portrayed as unattractive by some Meztizo Filipino actor or actress with black face make up.

I've always thought Denzel Washington was hot! (well, he's kinda older now. LOL) But I thought so when I was younger. And, Usher IS SEXY. OMG. The problem with Filipino mentality is that fair is beautiful. We're known to hate our brown skin, so what more with the darker skin? Personally, I don't get it. But, I don't get a lot of our ways, so it's probably just me.

isnt it weird that in western countries the N word is offensive and can get a person in Jail while in our country, Its being shouted on TV as a normal term. Its a degrading term but that term is being thrown to our local black celebrities a spart of the norm. yeah the "fair is beautiful" mentality is really extreme in country. Skin whitening products is part of the norm. while in the west, people are dying to burn under the sun to have our complexion....

I guess It is difficult to love what we have and aim for what we dont have. The dark skinned loves to be fair so they idolized or more attracted with the fair skin but its the same with the fair skin. Caucasian loves to sun bath and they have different tanning products because they like to tan. And as for the dark tone bleaching before as a hit now its gluthatione. Ironic but true.

my friends and i watched a movie long ago, title is cinderella. in that movie, cinderella is black and some of my friends were like, omg, what happened to cinderella? it is the same story but only different color and to me it is still beautiful although some of my friends were uneasy. it is sad that most of us still think that white is beautiful. you are right, there is still no development in that area. me, i always like the beauty of tyra banks and look up to her for fashion.

you know what, that movie is used as a "film viewing" movie at my school when I was a 6th grader. I remember the Prince in that movie is Asian and his Mother is black while his dad is white...LOL confusing.
I remember how my classmates were screaming "gross" and "ew" when they saw Cinderella is black. usually when a Filipino finds a black person attractive, they were light skinned ones like Beyonce or Alicia Keys.
I think there are Black women who are dark skinned and I still find them beautiful. Filipinos are sensitive to racist jokes, while our comedy shows always have racist jokes against black people.

Wilma Doesnt is actually a model, even before she came out on tv. So I guess that means she is indeed viewed as beautiful by a large number of "beauty professionals".
As for me, I like her too. Whenever she's interviewed, she's very witty and funny. As for her shows, well I don't really like watching Filipino shows, be it a mestizo or a pinoy who's on it. I hope you can understand if I can't comment on the others.

though she is a supermodel the acting roles she gets are kinda humiliating and racist. I know she is just trying to do her job as an actress, Its nice that she focuses with hosting now. Cos she is always portrayed as someone unattractive in her acting roles. I think our fashion industry is more accepting than our TV and Movie industry.

Most people who have darker skin color are just blinded by the thought that when you are white you are beautiful and GREAT. I think it goes back to the colonization years. The oppressed dark-skinned people had been seeing the fair-skinned living in big beautiful homes, possess a lot of things and enjoying a high status in the society. With these experiences and scenes imprinted in our sub-conscious minds... not to mention that media is also promoting this mentality (ex. Vicky Belo commercials)people tend to associate GOOD LIFE = FAIR SKIN and do not forget the bigger Nose. I just hope that people will stop this wrong association and be happy for who they are and will strive hard to succeed. I think it is time that we have a brown-skinned hero in those soap-operas and Budoy is not one of it.

well we do have soap opera actresses who are tan skinned and were not Eurasians and chinita, but Tv networks bleached their skin and dyed their hair.
