Attap roof is nice and suitable for hut roofing installation as it gives the feel of tropicana, besides that the heat radiating is good also as sisalation paper is not needed. In my country, one piece of attap roof is sold for RM 1 to RM 1.50. The size is about 6ft long times 2ft wide. But does anyone know how to preserve it from decaying? I did hear before that it can be painted with layers of syelek paint on it. Does this workable?

Nowadays a hut with an attap roof is most likely found only in the countrysides. As the attap palm tree is a tropical plant, attap leaves are used to build the roof of their huts only in those tropical areas, especially in South East Asia. Attap roof is known for its good ventilation qualities but the problem of having to replace the roof after a certain period makes it a non-suitable material to use particularly the housing developers.

Thanks for the reply jkct02, i has been waiting for people to comment about 5days. Agree with you that attap roofing is not suitable for housing roofing due to its durability. Anyway, it is still nice as resting hut roofing especially in resorts or public garden and beach.

Yes, attap roof used on small huts for resting or F&B in resorts and parks in Malaysia is common. It emits a tropical feel as well as resembling a kampung (Malaysian village)style house which may interest the foreign tourists.
