Okay...So I haven't ice skated in about 10 years. Over the last few weeks I decided to try and learn how to skate again. I feel quite a few times and laughed it off. Bruised knees and other body parts lol. Now the last time was over a week ago and I fell face first and took quite the hit. I did however suffer with bruised ribs. Today I feel great and I want to get back out there. A part of me is nervous but I don't want to quit.
What would you do???? Would you get back out there so soon or would you take more time to heal? Or are you stubborn like me and want to be back out there A.S.A.P???

It is never to late to learn any new skill or ot return to a skill that you once had so good.
I would get back out there and keep trying again and again and you will soon be back ot the skill level that you once were, its like riding a bike, you never forget.
Keep us posted on how you get on

I am not one to give up on learning anything. I will be back out skating tomorrow as long as the weather is good. It is an out door rink and it's very nice. Great for the community! I will post again tomorrow or Sunday on my progress!!!!!!

Hi there knitting pro,
Hi happy lotting, i think if you are not that injured and you still can do physically the requirements of the sport then go back again, nothing makes you better than practicing a lot and if you do this in no time surely you will get your skating form immediately. Just be careful this time.

It's never too late to learn anything, really, as long as you're able to walk, it'll only take a bit of practise. Just start off small, perhaps holding a friend's hand or the side of the rink first, that's how everyone starts off. Once you get used to holding your balance on the ice it'll come naturally. I myself have taken figure skaing lessons as a kid but my ankles don't go well with skates at all, they end up bleeding, so I stopped. I go skating w/my family now but I walk around and take pictures. :-p

I did the sensible thing the first time back out and my hubby held my arm. But I got bold and thought I can do this alone. I did alright for the first bit. The first few falls weren't that bad. The fall that bruised my ribs was the worst lol. I'm alright now. I'm to rough to not participate lol. I won't give up though I'll get it soner or later!

You have to know how you feel now. If you feel prepared enough to try it again, let´s go to do that. I do not think that you have to be scared of it. As many times you try it, as you get better and better. I am not so big fan of skateing, but I am also stubborn so If I would be you, I could try it.

You shouldn't not do it because you had an injury. It is a lot of fun! Great exercise as well!!!

Personally unless you have a reason you should not be trying to learn how to Ice Skate due to Medical issues, I feel no one is never too old to learn how to Ice Skate. It has been many yrs. for me too, but it was something I once enjoyed. If you are around an area that has one, and someone can teach you I say go for it, and have Fun.

Well unless your about 80 and your bones are very brittle I would think you should be ok. You could still break something but just try going slow at first until you really get the hang of it. I remember seeing people who used to tie pillows around their rear ends so if they fell it wouldnt hurt their hips and rear end so bad. The bruised ribs sounds awful I hope you mend quickly from that. I would say give it another try when you feel better. I used to love to ice skate when I was a kid.

LOL Oh boy I didnt realize that you skate somewhere where lots of people would be around like an ice skating rink. That would have people laughing at you if you tied a pillow around you haha. When I was young and my parents used to take me ice skating we would go and skate on my grandfathers pond. I was always scared I would fall in but they wouldnt have let us skate on it if it was shallow. The ice was very thick when we went to ice skate. I've heard of places having ice fests where they even drive vehicles out on top of the ice I think that is so amazing but I would be so scared.

Pillow tied on sounds like something fun to do. It would certainly give the other skaters something to laugh at lol. I am really better regarding the bruised ribs thank you. I have plans to skate tomorrow as long the weather stays nice and it doesn't rain. It's an out door rink which I love. So you get the exercise and the fresh air!!!!!

I don't believe that we are ever too old to learn something. this goes for a sport as well. It may take a bit longer to grasp the sport, but ice skating is a sport that can enjoyed and learned at any age.

Personally I don't like ice skating that much. But if you like it do it again. I think it's never to late to learn how, it perhaps might cost you more time or energy but does that matter?

No time doesn't matter. It's great exercise. With it being an out door rink you are also getting the fresh air. It's actually a lot of fun even with the falls lol
