So, I took this class in high school that basically taught me how to build a basic website. I've learned a lot more since then, and I've been wanting to start my own website. I have money for hosting but I'm a bit uncertain about starting a website for content because there's no really guarantee of success.
How do you start something that you know requires an investment but has no guarantee of success?

Hi there ajalitus,
Well nothing is for certain in this life. SOmetimes even big companies hit rock bottom. But the trick is studying everything knowing possibilities, the law of averages go two ways if there is a percentage of failure understand that there is also the percentage of success. You dont know one day you may become broke because of this or some one like the person who made facebook...
Right???

I guess there are no guarantees in anything so sometimes you just have to jump in and take the risk, if its a money making website it is very hard, as it seems on the net people like freebys unless you have an extremely good product to sell, goodluck with whatever you do.

Depends how much it is. If it's $50 or something, the easiest way is simply to decide what you won't buy in order to use it for the investment. That way, it's already figured into your budget and if you get any return at all, it's profit.
If it's a fair bit of money, it's a harder decision. You either need to sit down and make a business plan or decide whether you can live without that money and are willing to take the risk.
There are no guarantees of success with anything in life, so it's really just a risk-assessment process. For the price of hosting (which is about $3 a month from most places), you'd only be $36 out of pocket for a whole year anyway - four months of regular myLot posting can earn $40, so that's paid for.

Well, I guess the first thing you do is to really have a positive mindset. You have to be optimistic about your undertaking. If you don't have that attitude, might as well not push through with your plans since the likelihood that it would indeed be unsuccessful will be high. Any business is a risk. You just lessen that risk by being prepared - doing adequate research on the business you intend to put, acquiring the necessary skills, and having a can-do attitude.
If you're really apprehensive, find someone who had been successful in web hosting and get some tips or pieces of advice.

How do you know that there is no guarantee of success? It is all up to you... The first thing when it comes to success is to believe that you can do it. Believing on anything that you do has a 50% chance of succeeding.
