Only One of Two To Select... Still Takes a While or Longer To Select!

Hi Friends and Lotters Ever thought - Life comes in mostly shades of TWO? Like, we have, Good or Bad, Love or Hate, Live or Die, Black or White... the list seems to be endless. Whatever, wherever, I find most of the things are served to us with only TWO choices. And ask anyone about his or her choice amongst the two... and most of the time we are still unsure and take a longer time to say what we like or prefer. Also, most of the time our preferences change with a blink of the eye. Your views on this would be appreciated. To make it simpler and more direct - Why do we have mostly two options to select from! Cheers, theSids. ps: I guess, my medicines arent playing on me today! Sleepy or Awake! Unsure again

Hi Sid, 'It is up to us' if we need to be a loser or a winner. We all are blessed with amazing abilities within ourselves and we use that ability to create a life of our conscious choosing. I have heard people say ‘I have/had no choice’. Will that mean he/she is less talented? I think LIFE is a box filled with little choices as well other than the major choices of career, marriage, income, education etc. Life is not all about yes and no...it has place for buts and ifs too. Realize and then take action..wish you get more options in life. have a nice time. Viju

Hi Viju yes, life is not all about the two only... as you rightly point out there are ifs buts (TWO again) and also little choices or major choices(TWO again) Opting to participate by selecting one of the available choices or not again is TWO. (Gosh! Think, I am going crazy i guess) Yes, I need more options everywhere - why only Life

Hi mamu. Yes, life is always optional and sometimes it is really hard to select the real option. Here, i am confused. Why black and white only? there are red, blue, green, orange etc.... Anyway, missing you in mylot and phone too. have a nice time.

Hi Sidhu, I think it depends on you. There will be plenty of choices, but if you see only two options it is your trouble. The word ‘Good’ can make it ‘better’ and ‘best’, am I right? (lol, this is the theory of Sreekala). Sometimes we can’t make it good but we can avoid creating it as bad too…. So all depend on us how we look on the matter. Life is not on two shades but in different shades too….. Any confusion Sidhu……… if yes, I am happy

Hi didi Good = Better and Best ! TWO AGAIN That is the point. We go on classifying, most of the time we get two options. I am not confused just trying to find a logical answer if any to this problem. Even poems from greats - To Be or Not To Be! Two Again... even they were haunted by this two

Hi Sids, indeed in life it is hard to make decision, although sometimes it is just a simple decision. Although there is only 2 to select, but seems hard for me to decide which one i should accept. Even sometimes when i saw some delicious food being sold at a nearby area, i just hardly able to make my choice since both are my favorite foods. But, after take some time i am sure able to make my choice. Since everything in this world, we must make the decision our self as which one we should select, right.

Hi myfb You know dear, food and chocos (even coffee) make me go crazy! So I can very well understand the reasons why we go berserk when we are to select from a variety of dishes of our liking or even when we are hungry And yes, I must say I agree with you when you say - we must make the decision our self Unfortunate that when we take a wrong decision, many a times we dont realize that the simplicity was made into something complex by us only and also we start blaming others. Anyways, this is not a gloomy post or discussion, so nothing more on the sad things... but coming back to chocos... I love anything dark - cofee flavored (just in case you want to gift me anytime)

Yes, everything come in two's and it's so awesome. But as Einstein said, there's no such thing as cold (as we know for hot and cold), and no such thing as darkness. Have you read that article God Vs. Science? It's a good one. Some clips includes this: ‘What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?’ ‘Yes,’ the professor replies without hesitation. ‘What is night if it isn’t darkness?’ ‘You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it’s called darkness, isn’t it? That’s the meaning we use to define the word.’ ‘In reality, darkness isn’t. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?’ ...wake up sids... mylot will find you if you sleep.

Hi adnileb Great article - God Vs Science. But I have a little more to add to the Darkness... There are two kinds (again I start, but seriously not in context) - One s without the lights (the one that this article excerpt mentions. And the other is darkness when you dont have eyesight. In effect, I feel one can still see in the dark if he has eyes but those who dont have eyes dont see anything even when there is light. So Light doesnt have much role in playing whether you are able to see or not... it is the eyes that do the viewing. (Seems I am definitely not in the right set of mind today) MyLot will find me or I will find mylot... I know this is tricky again... but I prefer to find mylot rather than it finding me... I am not famous or lost to be found

but the sids som etimes maybe is the best opotion as it leaves r oom for change yes and no are definite carved in stone, maybe gives us a third choice and lots of times this is the one that works for me. it maybe a shade of grey or off white but its a good maybe as when I had asked if my mom could babysit for us when our kids wer young and she had answered" maybe I can if your dad has not other plans." so the day before we wanted to go out on a date she called me andsaid"yes I can babysit as your dad is called back to 'so uth Dakota for several days." so the maybe worked out fine.life is not all black and white, there are other shades too.

Hi dear Sid The Maybe! I forgot that one dear... But it seems I am not a good person when it comes to using this word... at least today... I am more confined to the black or white theory and I just feel horrible when I am undecided. I call the Maybe as a Hanging Situation and many a times this nearly kills me. Blame it on my star signs (at times - the cusp of Virgo and Libra) or even anything else. However, I wish I could learn the art and stay happy with that Unsure feeling - would definitely help I believe as many a times, I wish I had a third option

Life does seem to be a dichotomy. We're always faced with an either/or choice in what to do. Yet I've always felt we unconsciously leave out a third option. The option not to do anything. We can either agree or disagree with the topic you posted or we stay neutral. Although fence-sitting is usually frowned upon, there are instances wherein taking a neutral stand is the most prudent thing to do. Like I wouldn't be caught siding with one of two close lady friends of mine who are having an argument

As much as possible, I don't take the third option. It makes life a bit dull if I always stay neutral or indifferent about things. Choosing an option would always lead you somewhere which makes life a bit more exciting.

Hi thesids, Yes, that is quite true, many people find themselves difficult to make decision. They will need to take a long time to think and re-think. I think this depend on how confident a person is. If a person is really confident, he/she will probably make decision fast and will not hesitate and scared to know the outcome. What I can say to the 1st type of person is, they are always careful on the decision they made and will always hope to make the right decision all the time. Whereas the 2nd type of person, is kind of person that dare to take risk, and they willing to take the responsibility on the outcome. But, as always, there are pro and cons on the 2type of people. and still it comes back to your topic, only 2 selection, pro or cons.

Hi yspmyl Of course dear! Making the right Choices and sticking with them needs some foresight and the ability to take the right decisions. But again, there is no guarantee that you are always right...the theory of risk to be taken or not has its pros and cons (as you rightly mention)

Yeah why do we have only two choices? When people ask me to choose I usually tell them why do I have to choose only one when I can have both! Of course that's not always true. It's either one of them and true that it's difficult to choose when you have only black or white to choose from. But I think that makes life more interesting. I'm not sure if I'm making sense though. Forgive me Sid, I'm not n my right mind right now but can't help but respond to this!

It is a pleasure to see your response on my discussion after so many many days I prefer white if I have to select between black and white and it is quite always. So I dont take too much time... But yes, I would love situations when I can select both - sometimes with chocos and cakes - You can't have the cake and eat it also... Though I think, unless I have the cake how can I eat

Hi buddy! I believe, choices make our life more meaningful and colorful. If there will be only one color, our world will become pale. Live or die..all of us will become too old if we will not die! Love or hate..the world will be filled with people if there's only love. It may sound like a joke but it's the truth, right? It's like an ingredient in cooking. Your food will not taste that too good if there's a missing ingredient.

Hi mtr I dont deny the fact that we all need both the shades or even more many a times. We do to enjoy more, do more and also live more. The question is that why do we have things which mostly get classified and fall in two segments. Personally I stick with the options which come my way. And select one from the two. If I try to look out for a third or more, chances are that I get more confused and stand more chances of doing mistakes.

Everyone feel easy and need an option to make a decision. This is why people need option as you said sids, but normally in pairs i think. This is quite easy and a way to anyone reply the answer. Even me, point a finger in pair to other when asking a question to choose it.

hi victor personally I feel that things are quite simple. We start complicating them because of our own thoughts, interventions to have more of choices for us. And there starts all the trouble. So I try to see things in pairs as this helps me take decisions easily and also lead a simpler life.

Hi SId! Your topic shows that you are a very simple logical person [if you really believe there are only two options].This is where most of us get confused and get muddled in a complicated thought process.I can think of shades of grey, steel grey, silver grey, elephant grey, cement grey , a weird donkey coloured grey etc..,] as opposed to plain black and white. If only life really comes in just two shades there is less complexity.I only wish I had such clarity.

I would say that greed or hate does not have much to do with this sid.Basically, if you choose to look at two options, any decision becomes simple.THis is ok with decisions; but in interactions with people you give the benefit of doubt to a person thereby allowing this shade of 'grey' to creep in.It muddles your thought but also keeps you from being less stern. For example, if I get hurt by a person I tend to give excuses to that person's way of thinking or circumstances or start looking back if I had provoked it even when I am guilt free and the other person has just gone out of her/his way to hurt me.On the other hand, my husband who can see only two shades just dismisses it , stops interacting with a person and goes his way.He keeps his mind free but is supposed to be less social than I.I am supposed to be friendly and this comes only when you are slightly lenient.

Dear Kalav Thanks for appreciating my discussion. Personally, I believe that life is always easy with the fewer options it provides us. But as we grow and start getting into the worldly affairs, we want more options from life and this is where I see all problems start. I have been able to live simpler just because I think and see things in two shades only. I know many consider this approach insane but I dont bother as after all it is my life and I decide what I make of it. It helps in keeping my brain and heart free from many vices like greed or even hate or jealousy and I am able to devote some more of their free time into things which I feel help me in better ways

Here is why I think this gets attached with greed and other vices - If I know and have no desire of more options, I stay confined to what life gets me. If not, say I want something else, I have to work more, fight more, and if at end I dont get that - I do feel pain as I see my efforts wasted. The vices come in when I cross and desire more... And also, yes, when it comes to interaction, I feel things still become easy - As you expect or dont expect. I dont. So I dont get to face the worries and sadness that oh dear, I was expecting this from you and you did just the opposite. On a broader sense, this helps. I am not sure still how to make it effective in the marginal sense but I am thinking on those lines. And hope I will have some proper examples for my stand. (going by the example of your hubby and you - well, in our case too the same stands. But I dont get to close all relations between me and those whom I dont need. I dont see the Bad Shades here, and just keep my choice to okay, distant) It may seem that I am getting heartless but that isnt the case. I love all - no matter whether they hurt me or make me happy.

The hardest 2 choices were preventative chemo or not just before the holidays and it probably won't do any good and will be for 4 chemos so you will be weak and sick before the holidays. But if you don't do it, it might come back quicker, not come back at all or come back later anyway. So I went with no preventative and it came back right away. But since I wasn't well from the massive operation, I thought 4 chemos afterward would have probably killed me. My current chemo is not bad. They were pretty sure it was in my limpnodes and throughout my body anyway.

It's like the game of "this or that" you can find in many fun sites. You just have to choose between two things and in this game it's easy because most of the time one of the options is unbelieavable! It is a curious thing though, why do we only have one or two things to choose from, it makes it difficult! Do we choose this or that, which is more difficult, do we really want or need it? Then a third option is just darn near impossible or out of grasp! I won't even mention expensive!

Your discussion reminded me of one of my favourite quotes: "There are always two choices. Two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy." Sometimes when I have to make a decision I think about that quote, because I am torn between the easy option and the option that is more complicated but better for me and for others in the long run. Sometimes I am tempted to choose the easy option simply because it is easy, but I know that is not the best option and I know that I would learn more from the other option. I think that there are many situations where there are only two options. I can go to the party or I can stay at home, I can eat that cake or I can leave in on the table, I can tell the truth or I can lie, I can submit this response or I can delete it etc. In those cases are is no grey area, I either do it or I don't do it. In other situations there is more than two options, and it is often more difficult to make a decision when when things aren't only black or white.

Hi Porcospino There are always two choices. Two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy. Great Quote indeed and so much meaningful. The gray shades are good many a times no doubt, but (personally) most of these gray shades add only to confusions, lure us into the wrong paths. I also think that these gray shades are made only by us to add to our own problems.

Everything does seem to come in pair. But the two can be opposites which create great distance between them. We are probably stuck in that grey area when we are unsure of which one to prefer.
