Just wondering if there is anyone out there that has some experience with teen diabetes? My 13 year old daughter was just doagnosed border line diabetic about 6 months ago after a 3 week unexplained illness. She is currently controling sugar levels with diet and expercise. We are doing testing every 3 months and keeping a daily book with her levels recorded. Any one out there have a child or teen with diabetes?

Does your child had a history of diabetes when she's still baby? I guess its juvenile diabetes. Proper diet I think would be the best way to prevent her from having hyperglycemia.. I have not yet experienced such disease but I am a nurse so I encounter diabetic children in the hospital. I will be praying for her..

Thank you!!! She has had no history with diabetes but we have been testing her since she was 2 because it runs in our family (both sides). When she was first diagnosed, it really wasnt a surprise to us. We are going on 9 months and we are doing very well with controling it. She most almost defanatley will be put on insulin sometime in the future but the longer we can keep her off it it, the better!

Has your child seen a Doctor who specializes in Diabetes? As far as I know when a child gets sick and they show signs of being Diabetic they need to be watched Super close, as most of the time they end up being Diabetic and the only thing that can help is usually insulin. But if diet is helping, that is Good, but a hard thing for any child to endure, as most Diabetics have to watch with what Fruits, Pasta, rice, bread, etc. they eat as almost everything is high in carbs and sugars somehow, and what affects one person will not affect someone else. But like I said to the best of my knowledge a child Diabetic is always on Insulin, so if they were only Diabetic when they were sick maybe they will never get it, or this is something that should be better monitored. Only a specialist working with children who are diabetic could answer this.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 15, I'm now 20. When I was diagnosed, I was rushed to the hospital after a basketball game, because I got sick on the bus,I was really weak, breathing heavy, and it hurt really bad, and I was dying of thirst!.. I had been sick for like a month before, and I had lost a bunch of weight, went from 125 to 95 in less than a month and I didnt know why... I was peeing alot and drinking alot of water, its like I couldnt get enough!!..When I got to the hospital, they rushed me in and asked if I had diabetes and my parents said no, and they check and my blood sugar was 600 and they put me on 2 insulin drips, its an IV of just insulin they also had to heat it because my body tempature was less than 94 degrees not totally sure how low it was but it wouldnt read, it was so low, they said its low than 94 because thats the lowest it reads...then they put me in a helicoptor and flew me to Arkansas Childrens Hospital where I was in the ICU for a week and then they moved me to a regualar room for another week... at first I had some trouble accepting this life changing condition, but I have and Im doing great, going every 3months for check-ups...I started out with insulin syringes and giving myself a shot everytime I ate, then I went to the insulin pens, still a shot everytime I ate something or if my blood sugar was up, then after 2 years I got a insulin pump, now its only one shot every 3 days... I love it!! It makes managing my diabetes so much easier and also helps to control it better because it giving me a little every hour...I wish the best for your daughter!!
