Anyone been on a high school student exchange?

I myself haven't but I am quite interested to do so. Did it effect your education for your major exam the one that determines which university or college you go to? Like were you behind in your studies if you didn't repeat the year etc. I would really like to hear other peoples' stories so I can go ahead with it without any worries about my education which is very important for me. I love hearing peoples' experiences because it is truly rewarding. I know exchange has it's ups and downs it's not all fun. You can prepare yourself but you can't prepare yourslef for everything. Also did the exchange help you get in university or college or get employed easier and looks good on your application? Thanks
