Too many pictures just laying in the drawer!

Ugh! We have lots of pictures that are just laying in a drawer. They go back as far as when the kids were babies (now they are in their 20's). I've tried to sort them, but after I sorted our kids looked at them and they became messed up again. I've put many in photo albums. I'm not a scrapbookking person, doesn't appeal to me at all. So, because we aren't good at labeling the photos and putting them in photo albums, we have film full of pictures but have not got them developed because they will probably go into the draw to take up more space. Ugh!! Now we have tons of pictures on disks from disk cameras. I haven't printed any out because I don't know how to use the photo machines in stores. Is that awful or what? I just don't have the interest in learning how to do that. I'm sure it's not that hard or difficult, once I learn how. It's just the learning that's stopping me right now. That's unusual for me because I have always loved learning new technology. I'm getting older, not that interested anymore.

Pictures can really pile up over the years. I just found an entire envelope full of pictures a few days ago, that I had forgotten I had. Of friends, some still known, some as a distant memory. And that is not to count the photo albums and what might be lurking in the depths of crawl spaces or closets to say the very least. Of course, I haven’t take any pictures in many years of myself or allowed any pictures of myself to be taken outside of identification purposes. Lets just say that I don’t have a good relationship with cameras. And even if I am a very technologically inclined person, a lot of technology tends to be something that is rather beyond the pale for me. Something about picture based technology, and all of the improvements with it, really does seem to slip underneath my radar more often than not. And I really do have no reason why this might be. Just the fact that it does tend to happen a lot. That is just how technology is. Its for many people and for some it is not.

We find them 'hidden' here and there also! Maybe it's just that we aren't interested enough in a certain technology so we just don't care to learn it?

I started out really good with my pictures in albums but I was picture crazy. I now have them in albums and show boxes. I tried to sort them a couple of times but I would get pretty far into it and then find a picture that belonged 3 albums before..LOL..I would have to rearrange everything. I actually liked the idea of getting the kids together to help you with organizing them. I might have to do the same with mine.

I've done that too (had to rearrange)! Then I learned to just put the pictures in a pile and then put them in the photo albums when I'm done sorting. I like the idea of getting the kids together also. I'll have to have food and snacks to lure them :)

It is a shame that people don't print off as many photographs these days, because it would seem that photo albums are a thing of the past, at least in the physical sense anyway. I make a physical album for each year of my life, and will print off only the best photos of everything that has happened. This will usually include photos from people's birthday, or Christmas, or from holidays, and I find it nice at the end of each year to be able to go through the photos that have been taken and decide which ones are going to be put into the main album.

Wow, you fill a photo album each year? When did you start doing that? That's a good idea. It's not that I'm too busy that I don't have time for it. I just don't make the time for it.

well, learning get no age, even though the interest get wane for a certain period. there are times we get realize that we need to learn something about the latest technology although we get hesitate for thinking those new learning are only confine to the young generation. learning got no limit and age s not a barrier. do not be shy to ask fro other even though they are younger than you to teach you so you could do it alone for many times without asking them anymore. being self reliant could not be mistaken as being knowledgeable. sometimes we need to go beyond the things which we think could not do but with perseverance another learning opportunity open up for better appreciating self.

You're right, a person can learn anytime at any age. I just need to motivate myself to do it.

At certain point my eldest (now 28) left home I gave her all her pictures, all the pictures of your family (albums) and the dia's I made incl. the projector. I did the same with number 2 (now 26). Number 3 (now 21) is less interested. I never really had the time to start an album so my eldest made it for her and gave it to her as a present. Next to this I only have a wooden photobox with pictures for her. Pictures of my youngest two (8 and 6 years old) I first saved on cd. Some years later I dicovered I was not able to read those cd's anymore so started printing a part of the pics and put them in an album. So my son and daughter both have 1 album of each year. At a certain point (think age 12 or 13) I will quite with that too. Why? Because they have memory and they make pictures themselves. If they leave I give them those albums as well. I don't make or print any pictures for me anymore. 25 years ago my house was full of it and I had some great camera's. Now I have a more simple one, still make pictures very frequently (I also use the camera as a scanner) but most of them I throw away after I printed some for my kids or someone else. Just like you it's not really that interesting to me anymore. So do like I did: give the pics to your kids, or the one who loves to have them.

That's a good idea! I think I will do that, get a couple of photo albums, fill them with family pictures and give them to our boys. I know what you mean about the last child and not many pictures of them. With our first child everything that he did amazed us and we were taking pictures all the time. With our 2nd, we didn't take as many. My parents have lots and lots of pictures of my older sister, not as many of me, and even less of my younger brother.

Same here. I'm making progress. I went to my husband's trade show a week ago and took a lot of pictures and downloaded them today! Yeah, it only took me a week!

Maybe you could ask your kids to make a project out of it and help you? Pull in some money together and organize everything in photo albums, make copies for the kids even, and ask them to print out all those that still need to be printed out and developed. It is a lot to handle, and a lot of time to take to do it, but with a little help... Plus it will bring back memories.

That's a good idea. I can buy the stuff that's needed, that's not a problem. That would be a fun time to reminisce. We might get off track with the memories, but it will be worth it. Thanks for the idea!
