Hi everyone. I'm getting ready to run in my first official 5K race next week. I'm excited about running with thousands of others runners. Any of you ever ran in any 5K's or Marathons? If so, what were your experiences like, and if so can you provide any tips for me on race day? Thanks in advance.

5K race. Well my husband do love to join marathons and he always picks 5K. One time he tried 10K and he suffered cramps. From then on he did not try 10K anymore. Well I think you should have enough practice before joining. Make sure you are well hydrated as well and makes sure you are physically fit to join such long race.

Hello there. Thanks for your reply. Since posted this topic months ago, I ran my first 5K race. My goal was to finish in 30 minutes or under, and I finished at 29:43. I placed 163 out of a little over 900 people, so I think I did pretty good for my first one. I'm thinking about running a 10K in November of this year. I'll keep the tips you mentioned in mind, especially since you said your husband suffered from cramps. Thanks for your reply.

I remember when i ran my 1st 5k run, man was that exhausting. But i gotta say it was a lot of fun, especially when you run with your friends. Since then I joined several other 5k runs. And with every race I went into, I always challenged myself to beat my previous time.
It has been like a passion to me, running. It's healthy, It's fun, and It's natural for everyone.
Good luck with your 10k run, it's gonna be a lot challenging but if you finish it, it would be quite an achievement.

Hi there. I was very exhausted the first time myself. I had trained for it, but it was a different kind of running. Doing it with hundreds of other people, and since it was my first time my adrenaline was going. I want to do a couple more 5K's before I tackle a 10K. I'm hoping to do my first 10K in November. Nothing is set in stone at this point though. Thanks a lot for your encouraging words and feedback.

I am just getting started with running 5k and such. I will have my first one in May. I have started training, and I am very excited for it. I am a pretty unhealthy person, so this will be a awesome accomplishment for me.

The night before, don't eat anything too heavy. Stick with pastas- it has plenty of carbohydrates. Drink plenty of water. Eat something filling like a banana a few hours before. I've ran cross country for 4 years, so 5k's are pretty easy now if you know how to pace yourself. Stick with a pace that is easy for you and control your breathing. When you get done, remember to rest and drink water!

Hello there. Thank you so much for your feedback. Since I've started this topic, I've already done the 5K. I tried not to eat anything heavy before I went to sleep, but unfortunately I did. I had some spaghetti. I didn't eat much of it, but I was feeling it during the race. I took a banana with me, but I mainly snacked on gummy bears before the start of the race. I totally got away from the plan of what I wanted to do. I think I ran too hard on the first mile and wore myself out. My adrenaline was going, and I was focused on doing it in 30 minutes or under. I did accomplish that goal, as I did it in 29:43. Afterwards I ate a banana. It was definitely a fun experience. I'll be more prepared when I do the next one. Thanks again.
