March 2, 2012 10:05pm CST
I am 31 weeks pregnant, and want to do some kind of exercise, I have an xbox kinect and was going to buy one of those dancing games and try it out, but not sure if the jumping and all would be good. Walking right now its not good for me also because Im super swollen and cant walk for long, plus the weather is not that great. Any suggestions?

Well you can do stuff on the floor like squatting that will help with. But jumping is no good right now not at 31 weeks. Just kicking you legs while your sitting that is fine. Certain yoga positions is good to do that is working out just not in the way where it'll put stress on your body. If your to swollen to walk then there isn't too too much to do. Right now this is a good time to start slowing down as your baby gets ready for birth so should you and take some rest while you can.

I have been super swollen in this pregnancy, I just really want to be able to get to my previous weight as soon as possible. Without hurting the baby, Im a high risk pregnancy (diabetic), so it is very important to be careful.

I always say ask your doctor and see what he or she think might help so you can kind of be in shape with out putting risk on your baby. I know before with my first pregnancy I walked almost every day till I was on bed rest which sucks. What I did was like rock back an forth to help with back pain and to help stretch kind of. I did leg lifts just like sitting on the sofa and kicking my legs. You might be able to do something in the pool like water aerobics.

Walking is the best exercise in your last trimester and you can walk till the day of your delivery. Other exercises may be difficult to be performed with the big belly. Walking on the other hand keeps the lower part of the body flexible and also helps the mother in delivering the baby naturally. Need not walk for long but keep walking as much as you can irrespective of the weather. Enjoy your pregnancy and happy motherhood. Happy mylotting too.

I guess you're right. I will try to walk more. I will have a scheduled c-section, but anyway I would love to exercise. My main thing is that I want to be back to my previous weight as soon as possible. Thanks

I had 5 children and had fairly easy pregnancies. I actually enjoyed being pregnant. When you are entering your final trimester the utmost importance is pay attention to what your body is saying to you. have you already been exercising? If not, you still can do minimal exercises to encourage you to exercise what is the lest strenuous for you. Even if the weather is bad, take a walk through a major store like Target. Or head to the mall and walk it. if you notice any hurting in your ligiments or tendons slow down and rest. your body will send signals if you are overdoing such as walking to long, or to fast. remember the last trimester is the hardest on your body. you average 1lb a week of weight gain. Look into some yoga videos. you can read reviews on them on amazon. There are videos that are specific for pregnancies and different trimesters. The best advice is listen to your body. Tired? rest. once your precious bundle is born you won't get much of that for several months. Be good to your body during the last trimester. One of the best exercises I can give you is the Kegal exercises. if you go to the bathroom and have ever used your muscles during a urine flow to stop the stream, those are your kegal muscles. if you can tighten and release them several times a day it assists your muscles to develop in your pelvic floor to assist in birthing your baby. Check into mild stretches, and above all remember to breath in through the nose and out through your mouth as you do any exercise. It will keep you from getting dizzy and give better oxygen to your lungs. If you are fortunate find a massage school near you. find out if they do a massage for pregnancies. I go to a massage school of therapy and it only costs 35.00 a week for my massage. Now I have moved up to using the massage instructor because I have several illnesses that naturally students can;t concentrate on. but there are pregnancy massages and you would actually give them a chance to learn while you get a relaxing massage. Good Luck to you and hope you let us know what you are having.

Yes, that is my main concern, going into labor early. I have a scheduled c-section, and am really hoping to get there with no problems.

I would suggest you talk to your doctor. They could have some great ideas of exercises that will limit the strain on your child. I know that when I was in the last trimester, I was extremely swollen as well, so I just did stretches and light training in my living room. But don't overdo it - listen to your body!!!
